Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Come enjoy my condo at Hali’i Kai (pronounced Ha lee’ e ki and it means ‘spreading out to the sea’)

Hali’i Kai is a 30-acre gated oceanfront complex on the Big Island of Hawaii with unbeatable amenities. This spacious 2 bedroom/2 bath condo #23D is a second floor end unit (with no one above you) with a tropical décor and lots of windows to capture the Hawaiian sunshine. A beautiful 5 minute walk finds you at the Hali’i Kai Ocean Club with a spectacular lagoon type pool at the ocean’s edge – you must see it to believe it.

Enjoy the fitness pavilion overlooking the ocean where the trades keep you cool as you work out before jumping in the sand bottomed spa tub. Hali’i Kai also offers a tennis court and a half basketball court. There’s an open cabana poolside bar and grill with a delicious menu and great cocktails (little drink umbrellas are optional!). It’s a perfect spot to watch humpback whales from December to April.

The upscale furnishings include a Cal King in the master bedroom and Queen in the second bedroom. It has a fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The condo has central air and full sized washer/dryer for your comfort and convenience. The unit includes high speed Internet access (WiFi). The living room includes a 47' wall mounted TV and stereo system with iPod dock.

The condo is located near the Coconut Grove BBQ area where you may grill your fresh mahi mahi to perfection! Enjoy your dinner on our quiet lanai with views of Mauna Kea (13,796 feet) overlooking Hawaiian flora and swaying palm trees. And for dining out, there are great restaurants nearby - some within walking distance.

The famous Anaeho’omalu Beach (“A” Beach) is a five-minute drive for sunning, swimming, and snorkeling. Hapuna Bay is nearby for additional beach combing. You can enjoy deep sea fishing, sea kayaking, wind surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving as well as helicopter tours over the active Kilauea Volcano. There is horseback riding, swimming with the dolphins at the nearby Hilton Waikoloa, and let’s not forget the two world famous golf courses in Waikoloa where Hali’i Kai guests enjoy discounted golf at the 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed Beach course or the King’s course designed by Tom Weiskopf.

For your shopping needs, there is a Costco near the Kailua-Kona airport plus a brand new gourmet market in the nearby Queen’s Marketplace which offers great shopping and a calendar of events throughout the year.

When comparing rates, keep in mind there are two different floor plans for the 2 bedroom condos at Hali'i Kai. This condo has the larger 'premium' floor plan (1459 sq ft with the lanai) and is an end unit on the second floor. The 2 bedroom condos on the first floor (unit numbers ending in 'B' or 'C') are smaller (1204 sq ft), interior units with fewer windows.

Hali'i Kai - Paradise within Paradise !

  • 5 of 5

We've been blessed to visit the Big Island four times now.

This was our first stay In Hali'i Kai and Waikoloa.

While the VRBO photos and descriptions of this property are beautiful, only being there can make one realize just what a special vacation residence this is !

It would be possible to stay right there within the gates of the property your entire vacation and leave completely satisfied !

The condo was spacious and comfortable.

It's lanai was the focal point of all of our mornings and evenings.

The mornings were filled with the song of the Dove and the Myna birds, as well as the gentle rustle of the palm fronds.

We'd watch the sun rise at 7:20 every morning over the snow-capped Mauna Kea observatories from the lanai.

The grounds were perfectly landscaped and groomed daily.

There is a mix of rental property and full time residences throughout.

Everyone respected the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this community.

Be sure and bring your workout shoes as they are required to use the workout facilities at the pool/club area.

As advertised, sitting poolside with great food and drink from the Ocean Club, we watched several Humpback whales breach between us and Maui.

The Ocean Club also offered several evenings of fine live music to accompany the Sunsets, the fish and chips and the umbrella drinks !

We will stay with David again because his condo was the crown jewel of our experience in Hawaii.

I'd recommend these things we tried firsthand:

- Hawaii Volcanoes Helicopter Tour from the HILO airport out over PU'U O'O volcano cone and the "FIREHOSE" outpour at Kamokuna cliffs !! INCREDIBLE.

- The POKE entree with drinks from "Seafood Bar & Grill" in Kawaihae Harbor.

-Several visits to Hali'i Kai's Ocean Club for sunsets/great food, drink and warm hospitality from the staff.

- Make "A" Beach your go-to beach experience, as it is close and plentiful parking is available.

- Hapuna Beach is the world's MOST BEAUTIFUL...but parking is impossible and the walk is LONG.

-Hike the trail to the Puako Petroglyphs just a short drive to the north.

- "Bite Me" seafood market for fresh fish at the harbor to prepare in the condo.

- "TEX" drive in at Waimea for the malasadas and hamburgers !

- A tour through "BIG ISLAND CANDY factory and Mauna Kea Mac Nut factory in HILO.

-SHAVE ICE, anywhere you find it.

-Drive up to Mauna Kea Observatory visitor center.

-Shrimper's Heaven entree from BUBBA GUMPS on Alii Drive.

Finally, we'd like to thank David (Our condo's owner).

Great place, perfect spot for what we wanted.

  • 5 of 5

Really nice spacious condo with balcony. Within the walking distance to coast line and pool area. Had everything we wanted in a self catering place and a good spot to explore the island from. Great stuff.

Oh and the bonus of having things like boogie boards and sun umbrella included in the rental.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on the Big island for our 14 nights. Comfy beds, pillows and everything we needed for our holiday. We enjoyed the pool area and had many drinks poolside. Would have liked to see different drinks for happy hour, grew tired of Mai Tai's, but not a deal breaker by any stretch. The unit was clean upon arrival and felt like home in no time. The only complaint would be that there were four of us staying and only two beach towels. Overall 9/10 for our stay.

Great Christmas in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two children (11 and 14), and I stayed in Unit 23D for 8 days over Christmas. This was an excellent condo for our stay. We had everything we needed in the condo. The pictures do not do it justice. The owner was great in giving us detailed instructions and making check-in easy. The condo was well stocked with what we needed during the stay. We at many meals on the lanai.

The location is great. It was very quiet even over the Christmas holiday. I was a little worried that it would be too far from the pool. However, it worked out perfectly. It is a short 5 minute walk. We went to the pool every night. The pool and the views are simply amazing. We could see whales in the ocean from the pool. The restaurant/bar and the people who worked there were awesome.

The location of the condo is very close to shopping and a great grocery store. It is also very close to great beaches. The A-Bay beach is right up the road (about a 5 minute drive) with a lot of parking. Hapuna Beach is also a short drive and I would highly recommend this beach, especially for boogie boarding. I would recommend being there by 10 or 11 for the best parking. It is worth the short trip. There are also many great hikes and snorkeling in the area.

I would highly recommend this condo. Thank you for a great vacation.

Condo has all the extra touches!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several different condos in the Hali'i Kai complex. We enjoy our stay every time. It's is lovely, quiet, has the best pool side setting anywhere, and a great set up for our family. I have to say that our stay in Dave & Karen's condo was the best! They have seen to every touch to ensure that you are coming "home" when vacationing in their condo. From the kitchen components, extra bedding, bathroom items, to every imaginable beach comfort -- chairs, toys, boogie boards, umbrella, cooler, and adventure guides! Loved every minute, and looking forward to next time. Mahalo

All True

  • 5 of 5

This condo is better than the photos even ! And the comfort level high, very nice furnishings, linens, maintained and everything you need. Which makes a vacation a vacation. We only had a few days here, really you need much much more. The environment is wonderful and only adds to your peace of mind. This vacation home, is part of a complex within a gated area. The pool is in a wonderful setting and it is shallow, therefore there are rules regarding diving, and jumping. Our kids are big rule followers but we did see another family being told by staff they needed to tone it down. So if you like total freedom and are free range parents this isnt' the place you for. But for us it was perfect. Also there is a nominal resort fee.

I need not repeat information in other reviews but would like to say this was a wonderful part of our vacation, one I would love to repeat.
