Overview

About the property

Quiet location, water views, private pebble beach, boat launch, canoe, internet

The cottage (2 bedrooms, 4-5 persons) and the studio (bedroom loft, 2-3 persons) are located on the waterfront at the mouth to Chedabucto Bay, halfway from International Airport Halifax at the Cape Breton Highlands. Cottage and Studio can individually, or be rented together with friends, for family reunions, weddings or other celebrations. It's an ideal place to relax. Breakfast on the beach, watching bald eagles, take a ride in a canoe and enjoy the sunset at the campfire at night. Fishing in front of the cottage and deep sea fishing can be arranged by appointment. It is highly recommended to take day trips to explore the beautiful surroundings with their countless lakes, rivers, forests and stunning bays and beaches.

after 4 years of vacationing at this property there has been a decline in management & conveniences .

3 years to repair bedroom door .

lawn was not cut as requested , I had to find someone to cut it .

fridge runs loudly all night .

pump comes on at night when another cottage needs water .

always need to use bottled water , owner does not provide certificate of water quality .

seems to be a shared driveway , very dangerous for cottage residents .

only one door to building .

possible septic tank issue .

all cash transactions when renting .

nice owners though not management oriented . need a bit of an education .

I shall not revisit this place .

Owner's Response: Dear Anne, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and express your concerns. We are sorry that you feel unsatisfied with your stay and are surprised, as our rapport over the years has always been an open and friendly one. We hope that the refund you received to reimburse you for the unused portion of your stay, as well as the waiver of the $100 pet service cleaning fee to accommodate your 3 dogs will compensate for your troubles. To address your concerns, the door in question was repaired immediately after it was brought to our attention. Thank you for being the one to do so. Unfortunately our lawn mower was temporarily out of service when you offered to find someone else rather than wait for the repair. We were grateful for the offer and happily paid the individual you chose for his services. The fridge unfortunately is not something we can change. Fridges hum when they are cooling. The pump we also cannot change. As for our water, we have a spring fed well with the clearest and best water in our community (in fact, a local business bottles and sells it nationally). We would have happily provided you with a certificate had we been aware of your concern. Each of our 2 cottages have their own driveway. Our cottages each have one entrance, which is common for older cottages, and each room has several windows as escape routes if safety is your concern. For payment we accept PayPal, e-mail money transfer, check, or cash. It is the guest's preference. Our septic is serviced regularly. We hope you understand that we are a family who chose to offer our private cottage as accommodation for travelers needing a place to stay in our beautiful community. We are not a large rental agency and as such we rely on our guests to make us aware of any issues so that we may address them appropriately. Once again we appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in your future travels.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We love the cottage, very peaceful, well equipped. The owners Michael and Irmi are awesome. We saw 3 baby seals on the dock one morning, can't get better than that 😊

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this nice review, we are glad that you had a chance to see those baby seals and enjoyed your stay. We even saw a whale in front of the cottage the end of July, looking for makareles ( we had so many, that the water was boiling!). We catched 23 makareles in 20 Minutes! Maybe you have another chance some day to visit our cottage and the beatiful area. Thanks again and take care, Irmi

A wonderful spot!

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 adults, two early teens) recently spent 2 nights at Irmi and Michael's cottage, what a treat! The property is extremely comfortable and welcoming, with all the amenities we needed. The location is stunning: 10 meters from the water, a 3 minute drive into Guysborough and close to Tor Bay Provincial Park. We even got out in the canoe for a quick paddle. We loved our time here, and recommend it unreservedly.

Perfect Spot to unwind and relax!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute, perfect weather, full moon by the fire pit, swimming, fishing, canoeing to Bird Island, exploring Guysborough, Tor Bay and the coast. The cottage is perfect, with wonderful water views. Irmi and Michael, thank you so much for sharing your special place and for your warm hospitality, we enjoyed Cape Breton travel but were happy to be back at the cottage. Faye and Matt
