Of course, the best thing about The Dog Box is that your best mate/s can come on holiday with you. They can lounge and sleep indoors (but not on the furniture, thanks), hangout on the sheltered deck which has dog beds (or you can bring theirs) and run around the enclosed garden.
The other neat thing is the convenient location – just walk out the gate and in minutes you can be surrounded by native bush in the Opua forest, wriggling your toes in the sand and sploshing through the sea at Paihia beach, stepping aboard a yacht or sipping a trim-soy-chai-latte (go on, try the double shot frappe and whipped cream!)
Our small home (40m2) is unfussy and slightly old fashioned. Generation Zers will be miffed about the missing mod-cons like Sky, WiFi and a dishwasher, but Gen Xers may appreciate the crystal wine glasses and Radiogram with a selection of 1960s-1980s LPs!
We do have a TV with Freeview, DVD player and HDMI cable; hot spotting from your mobile is possible and free WiFi is available at the nearby library and some cafes.
The sunny lounge opens onto a spacious, covered deck giving you extra living space even on wet days. If you wish to make your own meals, the typical household kitchen will contain everything you need. You need to know the comfy, new bed is a double and if someone needs a separate bed the spare is just an air bed in the lounge (or on the deck on summer nights). All bedding is provided and there's plenty of storage space for your belongings under bed or in the dressers.
Two to three cars and even a boat can be parked in the driveway and it's a short, easy walk to the station for bus travellers.
We want you to feel at home here - feel free to email any queries.
It is fine for clean, dry dogs to be inside - there's a warm outdoor shower to rinse them off. And it'll be great if they stay off the furniture, thanks.
We'll clean fastidiously before you arrive and request you keep the kitchen clean, put out rubbish and clean up dog messes (everything is provided).
Please enjoy your smoking outside of the house.
People with mobility challenges may find access to the house awkward due to the steps and moderately sloping drive.
Extras: Linen (included); Each additional dog (rent includes one) (Optional, NZ$10.00 per night); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
