Bach or holiday home, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 7)
This was the home of New Zealand fiction writer Michael Henderson, first New Zealand graduate of the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, whose books can be enjoyed in the house.
Why EllieKaiteri chose Kaiteriteri
Five generations of the family have lived in the area and visited Kaiteriteri Beach from earliest days when the road was just a track.
What makes this House unique
The house was built in 1997 on the bare section bought in 1970 and has not changed hands in that time. It gives a comfortable and authentic holiday experience and does not simply transport the visiting guests to another suburban setting.

Amazing Location and wonderful host
We loved the location on the headland between Kaiteriteri and Little Kaiteriteri set amongst beautiful native bush. The property is private with amazing views to both bays. It was an easy walk down to the sea shuttle for a day trip to Abel Tasman National Park. The house was cosy with everything we needed. Ellie met us on arrival, had the fire going and made us feel very welcome - she had thought of everything and was within easy contact. We enjoyed the quietness staying in winter, Tui, Bellbirds and beautiful sunrises. Bliss.
Thank you for embracing Kaiteriteri in winter - a different experience from the summer holiday but one that offers much to do and see in Abel Tasman National Park. If you’re a cyclist, at any time of year you can bring your bike (or hire one) for the mountain bike park nearby or for more leisurely cycling on the off-road Great Taste Tasman cycle trail, which you can follow from Kaiteriteri to the estuary village of Mapua.
Paradise on the hill
Great location with easy access to both beaches. Owner is super helpful and goes above and beyond.
Quiet location but close to both beaches, a great place to visit any time of year
Thank you! This a people-friendly house and I welcome families as well as couples, at times having three generations holidaying together. Parents with very young children will find it safe for toddlers and can request portacot, high chair, booster seat, even a stroller if required. Older children will be very safe making the short walk to the beach without adult supervision, able to return “home” at a moment’s notice. Everyone appreciates the peace, privacy and native bird life in the garden - tui, bellbird, riroriro, fantail, kereru, weka and even nesting Little Blue Penguins.
Very scenic cute little home
Great stay, loved the private location and scenic views
Relaxing Winter Weekend
Ellie us a very thoughtful host. This house is very private lovely, clean warm cosy and stunning veiws. The tui and bellbirds sang all day long...we left feeling relaxed and well rested.
Just a week away now from the shortest day, but winter’s long clear starry nights give a stunning view of the Milky Way through the skylight in the loft bedroom. As well as the daytime tui and bellbirds, you’ll hear the morepork call on moonlit nights and occasionally a Little Blue Penguin making its way back from a day out fishing.
Amazing views and a lovely place to stay
We all loved this place! The views from every window are amazing. Ellie is a wonderful host and the place had everything you need. A great place to get away to in winter and summer. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for appreciating your winter experience at my Kaiteriteri house - calm, sunny days and then cosy nights by the log fire. Welcome back any time!
Absolutely perfect spot! A very thoughtful host with many extra little details taken care of. Will definitely stay again.
