Short stay but lovely place. Loved the quirkiness of it.
What a wonderful place and great hosts
Me and four friends did the www.timbertrail.co.nz and couldn't have imagined a better place to stay. Heaps of bedrooms. Heaps of bathrooms. Comfy beds. Great food. I very rarely write reviews but this was excellent.
Location is fine
Location is fine. Quiet.
Property: Garden and SPA: nice and peaceful.
House: Ad says there was an oven. No oven on sight. Hot water was down most of the times, had cold shower 6 of us for 2 nights. Fridge was too small, designed only for 2. Cooking plate was ancient, took an hour to cook a single pancake. Very basic kitchen. Microwave, Water electric jug, electric two cooking plates, small fridge. BBQ grill is new. Washing machine and dryer good. Internet was not working well.
We have a 5 star rating on most sites, and this is our only review on all sites that is in anyway negative. The review is clearly unfair - but our other reviews on all sites are so favourable that we'll let potential guests make up their own minds. To answer each point made:
1. oven - it is under the bench and plainly visible, so don't know how these guests missed it
2. hot water problems - we weren't notified until the next day of the problem - which the electrician confirmed was due to the fact that one of these guests had turned off the hot water switch!
3. fridge is normal size, and there's a second fridge in the next room - so obviously plenty of fridge space!
4. the dual cooking plate is neither new nor inefficient - it's 3 yrs old, 2000 watts and cooks a pancake in 10 minutes. There's another cooking plate available in the kitchen as well.
For lots of information, see the Blog page on our website (www.timbertrailcentre.com). The world famous Waitomo Glow Worm Caves are about 45 minutes drive away and within half an hour are jet boat and canoe trips on the Wanganui River and the start of the 4 day Forgotten World Adventure (riding in converted golf carts along a 150 km private rail way). Much of the Lord of the Rings was filmed in our wild region (Mt Doom is a live volcano less than an hour away).

Why Marty and Sylvie chose Ongarue
Our cottage is set in large gardens and is close to many stunning sightseeing and adventure experiences (described elsewhere on on our website).
What makes this Lodge unique
We are in the village at the end of the Timber Trail Cycle Way (listed as one of the top 100 things to do in NZ and rated by cyclists as one of NZs top 2 cycleways in the country). A very large trout-filled swimming hole with beach are 10 minutres walk away and an Alpaca farm is just down the road. Within a half hour are many adventure opportunities from river jet-boating and kayaking to rail adventures and hunting deer and wild pig. Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, Tongariro National Park, live volcanoes and ski-fields are about an hour away.
