About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Located at Eastern Market, this condo is close stroll to the US Capitol, US Senate, The National Mall, Washington Monument, The White House, Union Station and downtown DC.

This one bedroom, 1 bathroom condo with extra sleeping area in the living room (pull down sofa), offers accommodation for one person or family of four. Located in the safest neighborhood of Washington DC, Capitol Hill - Historic District, located within walking distance to the National Mall as well as Eastern Market, local landmark. There are numerous grocery stores, restaurants and high end shopping areas within walking distance.

Capitol Hill Historic District takes its name from the hill, which rises in the center of the Federal City and extends eastward. Stretching easterly behind the Capitol Building along wide avenues lies the residential area known as Capitol Hill. Capitol Hill, one of the oldest residential communities in Washington, has grown from a small boarding house community for members of Congress to an area of more than 150 squares embracing a number of separate neighborhoods.

In the early years of the Republic few Congressmen wished to establish permanent residence in the city. Instead, most preferred to live in boarding houses within walking distance of the Capitol. Nothing remains of this community, and the area closest to the Capitol contains the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the House and Senate Office buildings.

Capitol Hill is the largest residential historic district in the District of Columbia. Almost every street is composed of row houses of different stylistic varieties and periods forming a continuous wall broken only by street intersections. Side by side exist early 19th century manor houses, Federal townhouses, small frame dwellings, ornate Italianate bracketed houses and the late 19th century press brick row houses with their often whimsical decorative elements combining Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Eastlakian motifs.

Within the Historic District, you will find the most luxurious accommodation in the one of the best areas in Washington DC with many restaurants, cafes and places to shop, including the Eastern Market, the city's largest farmers' market and flea market.

This elegantly furnished one bedroom apartment approximately 1000 sq feet with one bathroom and fully equipped kitchen with a small backyard seating area, provides great hotel alternative within walking distance to US Capitol, US Senate, Eastern Market, Union Station and the National Mall.

You will find sleeping for up to four people and enough room to host the entire family, outdoor deck and living room with an eat in kitchen.

Our location is ideal for touring around DC and we are looking forward to hosting you in DC. We are local, so if you have any questions or special request, don't hesitate to e-mail us!

About The Owner

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

Great location, upkeep needed

  • 3 of 5

This place is in a wonderful location in Capitol Hill. The neighborhood is convenient and close to many amenities while still having a more relaxed feel. There is a bus line that takes one to the heart of the city and is very convenient. There are multiple drawbacks, however, with the apartment. Many stem from a lack of general maintenance of the place: crumbling wood from dry rot, deferred cleaning of the backyard and patio space, mice in the walls, neglected overflowing trash bins...There were also other issues with staying in this unit that made it inconvenient, such as thin walls and neighbors with screaming kids that woke me up on numerous occasions, the lack of access to a thermostat to control heat, and the over abundance of pointless furniture that clusters the space and makes it feel much smaller. I stayed here for over a month so many of these issues may not bother one with a short stay. For those who plan to spend minimal time in the apartment this place will do fine.

Very Good

  • 4 of 5

Excellent location in relation to visiting all the popular sites in Washington DC. Décor was great, first floor space excellent, furniture in good condition. I was unaware that there was parking available there. The only caveat was the heating is water/based. Given the outside temperatures it was a little chilly inside in the morning and evening. Regardless I slept well. I would return again even with this limitation.

Great Location!

  • 4 of 5

Location was perfect! We walked everywhere, Eastern Market with its many shops and great restaurants (Teds Bulletin, Medium Rare were some of my favorites), Safeway, 7-11 store, The Mall, Metro and various other places. The unit was small but clean and perfect for our needs. The owners, Kate & Jarek, were very attentive to our various requests and easy to work with. The Unit does not have a thermostat but we had sufficient heat during our stay. Having a washer & dryer in the unit made it very convenient for our long stay in DC. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if the opportunity arose. Thanks Kate & Jarek.

Great location! Beware of very thin walls if you want quiet!

  • 3 of 5

The location of this property rental is ideal. It is within walking distance of Eastern Market & was very close to other amenities. We never met the owners. We just emailed them when we arrived and were told to enter with the key codes previously emailed to us. No problem there. The unit is very nice & equipped as described, although there was no coffee, even though it was listed as being provided.

When we first walked into the bedroom, the transom (that piece of wood between the carpeting & flooring) was completely loose & easily tripped upon so we set it aside. I emailed a pic to the owner and he said he would have his handyman repair it. I can only assume this was done after we left. The owner was attentive to our request to lower the heat as it was very hot in the unit ( November stay). There is no thermostat in the lower unit.

The main reason I have given this property only 3 stars is that ppl renting should be aware that the walls and floor between this unit & the upper unit have NO insulation! There is also virtually nothing preventing you from hearing- at 7:30 am, in our case, a child next door practicing the piano! We could hear the piano "concert", the baby crying, the family talking etc etc. The walls are PAPER THIN! You can also hear music, TV, walking, etc if the unit above is rented, so be aware. I wouldn't rent this property again, based on these factors.

Also, if you choose to rent the parking spot (there's a garage door but it's not a covered garage), it is difficult to maneuver into that space AND there is a fixed object as you come out of the narrow alley that we accidentally hit & scraped the bottom side of our car! There is no way you can see this object- not sure why it's there but I have to have body work on my car now. Ugh!

The property was clean. You do have to wash & dry the towels you use before checking out so you may want to bring a few towels of your own for your last day. That was a bit of an inconvenience but the owners do tell you this in advance.

Thank you & happy travels!

Divide, Colorado

Only criticism is it does take about 25-30 mins to walk to the metro. Other than that, stay was comfy, convenient, and accommodations were nice.

Convenient, clean, quiet, safe

  • 4 of 5

The property is as advertised, no surprises. We found the unit to be clean, comfortable, quiet and in a picturesque neighborhood that was within reasonable walking distance (15-20 minutes) from the Union Metro Station. Jarek and Kate are easy to work with and were clear in their communications.
