Want to get away? This quaint little all solar cottage is the perfect escape for two. It is nestled on the lush east side of Maui, close to Hana, with a 100 acres of land at your doorstep. The cottage is completely furnished with hardwood floors, granite counter tops and beautiful views of the mountain and ocean. This is a perfect retreat--quiet, romantic, peaceful and serene.
The hundred acres on which the cottage is located provides the opportunity for hiking excursions. Or for other day trips continue to follow the road to Hana where you'll find beautiful beaches, Seven Pools, snorkeling at Hana Bay and horseback riding.
Let the aloha spirit settle gently at your doorstep here at Mack's Shack and create the vacation of your dreams!
Perfect place to getaway! Extremely clean and well tended. This perched-on-a-hillside cottage has an ocean view from wraparound porches and an outdoor shower. Very private. The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and pots and pans you might need, as Hana does not have a plethora of places to eat. (Make sure you stop at Costco and stock up on food before you go.) Karen has beach chairs and beach towels to use for a trip to either black beach (very crowded) or Hamoa which was low key and local feeling without a lot of tourists. Karen thank you for your suggestions. We enjoyed the privacy, the views, Hawaiian music CDs and relaxing on the comfortable couch reading after exploring. If you want to get away, this is the place.
If you want quiet, secluded and peaceful... this is the place! We stayed for 3 nights so that we could take in the magic of Hana and not feel rushed. It's one of the best decisions that we made when planning our trip. The house is situated high on the mountain side of the road just north of Hana and gives you the best of the tropical green mountain along with views of the ocean. It is the only house on the property so it's very secluded and feels very safe. It is very clean and comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed to cook, relax and take in the surroundings.
The owner was very helpful.
This is truly a hidden gem.
My husband and I were only able to stay at Mack's Shack for one night! This house was perfect! We explored the Road to Hana, and arrived at the house at about 3:30pm. We decided to go further on the road to see the Pools of Oheo which is about 45 minutes further down the road. This is were the interior fresh waterfalls meet the Pacific Ocean - quite a site). We got back to the cabin at about 6:30, had dinner and relaxed! The cabin is very private and secluded. There is a stream which runs by the bedroom window, providing a pleasant gurgling all night. We also had rain showers all night! In the morning we had coffee on the wrap around porch, chatted and read before continuing the next leg of our journey. Totally enjoyed Mack's Shack.
We stayed here for the last two days of our Maui vacation with your two teen daughters. I'm in LOVE with this place. I didn't realize it had an ocean view. I know this is going to sound a little crazy but I got teary looking at the view and grounds. It's just breathtaking. The cottage itself is very nice and the wrap-around porch was so nice to sit and relax on after a long day exploring along the Road to Hana. My only suggestion would be a pull-out couch. The blow up mattress made loud, squeaky noises whenever my daughter moved. We gave up the second night and she slept on the floor while the other daughter slept on the couch. I loved that it was close to the road but still seemed secluded. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean. We also lucked out and got two sunny days! It's a beautiful place and we'll definitely be back.
My husband, son and I stayed at this quaint, scenic, inviting and peaceful retreat for one night during our trip to Hana. Having stayed a few different places on past trips, this was definitely our favorite. Beautiful view, fully stocked with anything you could possibly need, removed from the road and in the peaceful setting you would expect to have in Hana. We will definitely be back!!
The last part of our almost two-week stay on Maui was spent at Mack's Shack. This was by far the best part of our vacation. We visited Maui three years ago and did the "road to Hana," and quickly fell in love and knew we wanted to stay longer. So we did. I'm thrilled that this little one-bedroom, clean, awesome shack was available. It allowed for Hana to "seep" into us a bit more. The bed was so comfortable, the view amazing, and the quietness and serenity couldn't be better. If the sky is clear at night, make sure you get out and view the incredible sight of stars not enjoyable in the more populated areas. The kitchen was well-equipped with incidentals and even a few spices. To ease your mind, yes there is a full bathroom with an extra shower outside and the washer/dryer has its own little shack. There were beach towels, all bath linens, even heavy weights and a workout mat for the motivated. It was so nice to come back to this little gem every evening after our many exploration hikes. I really do hope to come back here someday.
