About the property

Orchard Cottage is centrally located in South Devon's most picturesque village

Orchard Cottage in Stokeinteignhead was originally part of an 18th Century coach house which has recently been tastefully renovated into a 2 bedroom cottage. It is centrally located in one of South Devon's most picturesque rural villages, which benefits from close proximity to the coast. This property is ideally suited for either families or couples as it benefits from 1 large master bedroom with en-suite shower room, plus a double bedroom (which can be configured with a super-king size or 2 single beds) and a separate large family bathroom. There is a quirky mezzanine level which can be used as a quiet reading area. On the ground floor there is a high specification kitchen / dining area which includes granite worktops, integrated appliances and solid oak dining table. A great way to end a busy day is to relax in the large cosy lounge with inglenook fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD and Free-sat facilities. The cottage also benefits from unlimited broadband / wifi. There is on-street parking available on the opposite side of the road, directly in front of the cottage; alternatively we have a special arrangement for our guests to have use the public house car park which can be accessed opposite the cottage. This cottage lovely rural retreat is a stones throw from the highly rated village pub and community village shop. Stokeinteignhead is perfectly located for easy access to several beaches on the English Riveria, the South Devon coast path, the rolling hills of Dartmoor and other outdoor activities including several golf courses and horse riding. For those who want some retail therapy you are close to the historic city of Exeter, the market town of Newton Abbot and Torquay harbour.

Great holiday

  • 5 of 5

Orchard Cottage is a beautifully renovated property situated in the centre of the chocolate-box pretty village of Stokeinteignhead. The cottage is comfortably furnished and extremely well equipped for holiday accommodation. There are two large bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, a 'family' bathroom and a downstairs WC, a large and well-equipped kitchen with dining table and chairs and a living room with two settees, tv and music system. All the furnishings and equipment are of good quality.

The cottage is a couple of doors away from the village shop and is opposite the Churchhouse Inn. We dined there on our first night of our holiday and were so impressed we went back three more times in the week.

Stokeinteignhead is quite well placed for exploring the Torbay and south Devon area. During the week we were there we visited the National Trust properties at Greenway (Agatha Christie's holiday home), Coleton Fishacre (D'Oyly Carte), Saltram House, Crompton Castle, Buckland Abbey (Francis Drake's home) and Cotehele in Cornwall. We also took in Buckfast Abbey.

Torquay and Teignmouth and their attractions are both easily reached within a quarter of an hour's driving. We had a trip on the cliff railway at Babbacombe and sampled some football at Plainmoor, Torquay United's splendid ground.

The village itself is quiet which makes for a restful holiday. The occasional sound of the clip-clop of horses' hooves on the road outside the cottage was particularly evocative of an age which has long since disappeared in most places.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Orchard Cottage, the Churchhouse Inn and Stokeinteignhead village.

Beautifully refurbished cottage with some great features especially the well made internal latch doors, comfortable, clean and well equipped in a peaceful rural village with a friendly pub across the road serving great food, a lovely little village shop selling a variety of things.

Modern and Spacious

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my teenage daughter in October. The cottage is in a small village with a local village shop, pub and very close to the beach and larger towns. The cottage is well laid out with comfortable beds, high end fixtures and fittings including a remote control activated log burner fire which was a lovely surprise. We loved the soft and comfortable sofas, the spacious bedrooms, the large kitchen with everything we could ask for including a pizza tray and cutter! There is a strong internet signal but no mobile phone service at all. This wasn't a problem for us but may be for those who are more attached to their phones. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to have a quiet break somewhere that is close to the coast as well as near various towns.

Perfect cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week of school half term in Orchard Cottage and highly rate the property and owner. Darin was really engaging in the whole rental experience and made sure our stay was second to none. The property is ideal for a family of four, with children sharing the second bedroom. The living space is on split levels, which adds a nice touch and makes it feel very roomy. The master bedroom is huge, with ensuite and lots of storage. No expense has been spared through out, with lots of solid light oak furniture and fittings.

The village is lovely with great shop open 7 days a week, with an early morning delivery of tasty pasties and pies. The Church House Inn opposite is great for food and drink, we ate there on three days and had good meals each time. The tenants are really friendly, with two playful dogs who are always keen to say hello from their upstairs balcony.

The location is ideally placed for visits to Torbay, Dartmouth, Teignmouth and beyond. You will need to get used to single track roads on all approaches to Stokeinteignhead, but they have lots of passing places and we didn't meet any idiots en route.

If you are looking for a well located lovely cottage with an owner who is really genuine, then look no further.

First class.........

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from spending a week in this cottage. It is located in a small quiet village setting with the village shop and local pub/restaurant within yards of the door. Parking was very convenient, either outside the property on the quiet road, or in the car park opposite.

On entering the property we immediately knew we had made a good choice. The cottage has been renovated and furnished to a very high standard, and is extremely well equipped. The 'welcome pack' is detailed and very comprehensive, and the provision of tea, coffee, milk and a bottle of wine was a nice touch. We were also very impressed that Darin called at the property shortly after we had arrived to check that we had settled in and that everything was okay for us.

We had a wonderful, comfortable week and left feeling that we could not have found anywhere better. We would recommend this property to anyone without any reservation whatsoever. To Darin & Lisa - thank you so much for everything, and we look forward to being able to stay with you again in the future.

Why Darin Pound chose Stokeinteignhead

We bought Orchard Cottage in August 2012 as a weekend retreat, however we soon fell in love with the area and moved permanently to the village in August 2014. We decided to let the property so that others can benefit and enjoy the property and area as much as we have.

What makes this cottage unique

As soon as Darin viewed the property he was adamant we had to buy it. It has history, character and a homely feel.
