Why Barbara Jordan chose Loreto Municipality
This property is a rare 3/4 acre compound on the beach. Very private, safe and just far enough out of town (half mile) that the stars look close enough to touch...So safe.

Our family of three had an amazing week at Alan and Barbara's beautiful casita. It is a fantastic place to stay for the price. The unit is well furnished, the kitchen complete, the beds very comfortable, the bedding high quality, and the bathroom very nice. Alan and Barbara are lovely people, and we so appreciated all of their useful tips and advice. The pool is amazing, the location is fantastic. We really cannot say enough. Loreto is a very special place, not for everyone, thankfully, but perfect for us and we cannot wait to return
You guys were the best. 6 nights not enough however you sure packed it in. Come again
and we will all figure out some different things to do.
We stay exclusively in VRBO properties and when we book properties with 5-star reviews we worry, and occasionally experience, expectations that exceed the actual experience. However, that was not the case with our stay at Barbara and Al's beautiful little casita. The location, landscaping, pool, sunrises, décor and the warmth of our hosts all exceeded our expectations.
What we loved about this property: leisurely 20 minute walk into town via the beach or streets; daily sunrise views from each of the bedrooms; the art/décor of the casita; the outdoor spaces; Al's initial tour of the little town and the wonderful carnitas he brought to us Sunday morning for just 150 pesos!; incredibly comfortable beds; cable TV for evening viewing; fans in every room; screens on the windows!; sitting out by the pool each morning with our coffee; supplied water; beach towels; tips for best places to eat and help arranging trip to see the whales.
What to know before you go: there are a lot of mosquitos - swarms in the morning and early evening. Bring repellent or use the extras which have been kindly left by others in a cupboard in the kitchen. Baja can be windy which can hamper planned activities. Other than a few seasonings, there isn't anything else provided. Plan to buy all condiments if you want to cook and, if you are a desperate coffee drinker like me, make sure you bring good ground coffee with you. No one takes credit cards, even the nicer restaurants and shops - make sure the first thing you do is to get pesos! And while meals are much more affordable than US standards, they aren't as cheap as other Baja towns. Dinners were about $30USD for two in the nicer restaurants (without alcohol) lunch half that. Best deal in town Ray's fish tacos!
We'll be back for sure. Thank you Barb and Al for sharing your home and love of Baja with us.
Wow this review makes everything we do for our guests worth it for sure. Thank you and we really hope you do return to our lovely little paradise.
Perfect casita for us!
My husband and I stayed in the wonderful casita the second week of March and we couldn’t have been happier to find such a perfect place. It is very tastefully decorated with beautiful bed linens that I appreciated. Yes, it was large for just the two of us, but we enjoyed having the space. As others have said - Al & Barbara are great hosts; on hand to give suggestions or help but yet very indiscreet and we felt like we had the property all to ourselves. We didn’t use the queen room but the king bed we slept in was so comfy (unusual in Mexico!). We enjoyed many of the same things other people have already mentioned (boat trip, whale watching, lunch at El Picazon) and generally just hanging out on the property. The house is about 1.5 miles down a dirt road so plan on renting a car. We had not planned that but were glad that we ended up doing so as we saw so much more than we would have and driving is super easy there. Our only regret was that the water was not warm enough for us to get in to the gorgeous pool!
Thank you for your wonderful review.....yes this winter was off scale like the rest of the World...at least 10 degrees cooler.
We hope to see you again under their nomal weather conditions and there will be pool time.
Marvellous Loreto Beach Front Jewel
This two-bedroom casita is simply beautiful - and the pictures - lovely as they all are - actually do not do justice to the real thing. We had a wonderful one week stay here for our first visit to Loreto - our experience of this lovely town truly enhanced by being so perfectly located on the beach but so close to the town and its wide variety of restaurant and shopping opportunities. Alan and Barbara were throughout very accommodating and ready to assist in every way. Great place - highly recommended. We will be back!
What a fabulous, thoughtful review. Thank you and I hope you do make it to our slice of heaven again in the future.
We recently visited Loreto, and couldn't be more happy with our accommodations at this property. The hosts we're extremely pleasant and were helpful in suggesting local activities.
Beautiful piece of paradise
We stayed at this beautiful spot for 2 sunny weeks in November.
Things we loved : the warm welcome and orientation tour from Al & Barbara
- very comfy beds, lots of bedding, towels
-the pool is amazing and very private.Would never know the owners were right there
-the house itself was lovely but was starting to show its age. As a vacation rental owner myself I know the importance of regular checks on the condition of the home & contents. Barb was happy to hear my comments & I am sure the issues were addressed. Nothing affected our stay , but were minor annoyances.
The town itself is amazing, small, friendly & easy to navigate. We thought we could get away with not renting a vehicle, but if you want to see anything, you need one. Alternatively, you can always hire a taxi to take you around . If you do rent, make sure you get an SUV so you can get to the cool beaches.
Things to watch for:
- you cannot walk to town on the beach at high tide without getting wet. So either wear your beach shoes, or take the road. You need beach shoes for the stingrays
-you cannot sit outside at night without being eaten.
-there is no recycling, which was hard. You can separate your cans and set them aside for the garbage guy. The owners did not mention this even after I asked, & after watching the garbage men paw through our garbage the first week, I thought there must be a better way. Be kind, save them the gross job
-dogs , dogs everywhere. If this makes you nervous, this is not the place for you
-you cannot flush toilet paper...anywhere. We were not told this up front & only after I asked for more info on the home did I find out. Bring some doggie poo bags from home to deal with this discreetly.
I gave this property a four star rather than a 5 for 2 reasons: I found the information leading up to the trip was lacking. I like to know everything, as I am sure many folks do. Perhaps it is the laid back Mexican way, but when I am paying a high price for a place ( keep in mind this is in US $$, I am from Canada) I expect a certain level of information. My advice is to save EVERY piece of correspondence right from your original inquiry. We had a bit of an issue due to miscommunication on the part of the owners & it made for an uncomfortable start to our vacation when we were about to be over charged for something that was previously arranged.
The second thing goes back to the maintenance issues. This can be a 5 star place.
Well, I guess a great trip was had according to the first half of this review. I am dumbfounded on the last part. So I can only suggest that anyone reading it note what she did love and move on to the mountain of 5 star comments we have had from others and of course more recent guests.
On Google map scroll from the Marina 1/2 mile North on the beach and we are the 2nd to last finished home on the beach.
