About Linda Cairns
I'm Scottish by birth and French by nationality. My husband and I have spent many years visiting and living in France and decided on retirement to move to 'the Sud' for a more leisurely style of life. We live on the first floor and have our own entrance. We are on hand, if required, otherwise you will not be disturbed. I love meeting people, introducing them to this historic region and sharing all my tips to make their holiday truly memorable.
Linda Cairns purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Linda Cairns chose Laudun-l'Ardoise
We bought La Soleillade because of its quiet location, southerly aspect and the warm welcome of our French neighbours who have become life long friends. We have stayed in all the departments of the Languedoc but chose the department of Gard because its the greenest and the most easterly with direct connections to north south autoroutes. La Soleillade is situated in the most southerly corner of the region known as the Gard Provencal.
What makes this Apartment unique
The property is well situated for transport connections and you can visit all the important towns of the region very easily and have a beautiful peaceful base to return to after a days sightseeing. I love to take the train to Aix en Provence or Marseille for a days shopping and Avignon is only a 20 mins drive or you can take the local bus and spend an hour touring all the surrounding beautiful villages en route. By staying here you can experience life in a small undiscovered southern French town, its a bit like stepping back to life in the 1950s with real church bells chiming the hour and peaceful Sundays when you can wander into the village for fresh baguettes and visit the local morning market.

An excellent home away from home
We loved our stay at Linda & John's apartment. From the moment we arrived, Linda made us feel at home with a very warm welcome.
We expected the property to be good from the photographs and description, but our expectations were exceeded. The apartment is very well equipped - we had all the utensils we could need for cooking indoors & outdoors. The outdoor kitchen is a fab addition - we grilled our dinner every night. It's great being able to live outdoors in the sunshine, or cosy up inside on the days when the wind blows.
The private pool is a great asset and really well looked after. We enjoyed floating around in that each day.
The apartment is well located for day trips to the Provencal markets and beautiful little towns. We really couldn't fault our stay and only wished we'd stayed longer. We are already wondering when we might get back there again next year.
Thanks for having us, Linda!
...and you were both most welcome and we hope to see you again. The apartment lends itself to outdoor living and with all the fabulous local markets and wines there is really no need to go out to eat, you can have your own exclusive restaurant beside the pool.
Paradise in Provence
Fabulous stay at this beautiful peaceful house in Provence. Nothing was too much trouble for our kind host Linda who's love for the property and region shines through in attentive touches. From the generously stocked fridge and pantry , superbly eqipped kitchen complete with beautiful Provencal crockery; to the simply stunning pool and outdoor vine covered patio and the outdoor kitchen. This really was a little piece of heaven where I enjoyed preparing salads, whilst keeping an eye on the bbq gin and tonic in hand, and then serving crepes for desert on the outdoor stove!
The house is situated perfectly for exploring the region, if you can tear yourselves away from the pool. We cycled to town to explore and stock upon a few essentials., and enjoyed the bustling market day in stunning Uzes and took in the impressive Roman Aqueduct at Pont Du Gard. But if you have more time than us then Avignon and St Remy de Provence are all within easy driving distance.
The teenagers were delighted to find UK TV and WIFI , and the house comfortably accommodated 5 of us , with the most generous shower I've ever enjoyed !
A truly wonderful stay and a holiday we will.never forget.
Hope to be back!
Beautiful villa which was perfectly set up for a family with young children like us. The children loved the spotless pool, whilst the outside kitchen area was a fantastic feature. The town centre is in easy walking distance with the sunday market being a must to visit. Going on holiday with a 1, 3 and 6 year old can be stressful but as soon as we reached the villa we felt totally relaxed which was helped by the lovely bottle of Rose Linda had left for us! Linda herself is very accomodating and a great help when it came to recommending places to visit etc. We loved our stay and just hope there is availability to book again next year!
...and you would be all most welcome. Really enjoyed your company and
seeing the kids turning into water babies and loving the outside summer living which is such a feature of La Soleillade.
Rollers and hot!
This was a very relaxing apartment in a beautiful part if France. Linda was a wonderful host and looked after us really well...nothing too much trouble!
A short stroll through the vineyards to the river Tave provided us with spectacular views of a pair of rollers.
Our second week coincided with record breaking temperatures...too hot to do anything but take dips in the pool!
A lovely memory and we look forward to returning.
Our Favorite Retreat!
From the first correspondence with Linda, we knew we were in for a wonderful treat! Her home is spacious, impeccably decorated, and has so much character. Linda didn't leave a detail untouched, from a fridge filled with goodies to actual washcloths, which for Americans, is a treat in Europe! We loved the pool, the vineyards and quiet retreat that her home offered. We will be back! Thank you, Linda. Blessings to you and your family!
I'm so glad we were able to provide you all with a peaceful retreat in your busy travel schedule. It was lovely to meet you and I would be more than happy to see you all again in the future and help you rediscover this fabulous region.
Getaway to a Very Romantic Provence House
My wife and I are still mellow, having just spent 8 heavenly days in La Soleillade. We wish we had stayed longer. All of our fantasies were met and then some. Linda Cairns is THE MOST welcoming host. Her website accurately describes the house and is in perfect, spotless condition. The glass-enclosed shower is huge, easily holding my wife and I. The gourmet kitchen is fully stocked with staples, and Linda had stocked the refrigerator for us with many foods and beverages that kept us supplied for several days. The refreshing, VERY PRIVATE pool has glisteningly clear water and Linda Cairns keeps the pool and patio spotless. The outdoor kitchen is wonderful: I could sip my wine, and periodically swim whilst the charcoal heated, and then cook the steaks while my wife sipped wine and nibbled local cheese and olives on the VERY PRIVATE awning-covered patio. Heaven! If you want to dine out, Linda recommends great restaurants and makes your reservations. We dressed up and were wowed by Laudun's fancy 4 Star restaurant with its high-end French gourmet cuisine. You can easily walk into the village of Laudun where there is a grocery store, restaurants, and bistros. Laudun is amidst the "Cotes du Rhone Villages" wine area so you can easily do wine tastings at the many local wine chateaus. We enjoyed the world famous Tavel Rosé wines, which you can buy cheaply at the local grocery. The Laudun-area red wines are splendid and we wish we could have brought a case home with us. Sleeping is salubrious: you hear only the birds. We aren't French-fluent, so it was so comforting to have a native English speaker (Linda is originally from Scotland) available to help navigate travel plans, AND the house has satellite-provided English-speaking British television stations! The location is great and it is easy to have lattes and a relaxing breakfast, then do day trips to Avignon, Arles and Les Baux, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Le Grau-du-Roi with its miles-long Plage L' Espiguette (the eastern part of which is officially clothes-optional), and the not-to-be-missed Saturday Market at Uzes (morning) and swim at Pont du Gard (afternoon), but twice we elected to enjoy a day of reading and vegging out by the pool. We played Boules on La Soleillade’s authentic Boules Court before cocktails. You can minimize the clothes you bring, because you can use Linda's clothes washer. It is a heavenly place that meets your fantasies. We long to getaway there again.
Thank you so much Robert. It has been a real pleasure to get to know you both and have the opportunity to showcase this fabulous region. You are more than welcome to return anytime.
Located within The Golden Triangle of Provence, La Soleillade is an ideal base for exploring all the important sites of the area.
The apartment is an great base for wine buffs, who will enjoy visiting Chateauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Tavel and of course Laudun, which is one of the 'Cotes du Rhone Villages'. We are surrounded by vineyards and there are many winery tours and Cave Cooperatives to visit 'pour une petite degustation'.
Art lovers should not miss the Museum Albert Andre in Bagnols sur Ceze. Andre moved to Laudun after his demobilization from World War One and became curator of the art museum of Bagnols, where he remained until his death. He was a best friend of Renoir who essentially served as his teacher and mentor. The museum is located on the second floor of the city hall and contains works by Rodin, Renoir, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Gauguin, etc. and admission is free!
There are plenty of places to keep the children amused include a visit to the Haribo bonbon museum or the crocodile farm at Pierrelatte. You can hire canoes and bicycles to discover the beautiful valley of the river Ceze, or go horseback riding amongst the sunflowers and lavender fields.
Laudun is famous for its Gallo/Roman remains. There is a beautiful walk up to the 18 hectare site of Caesar's camp through a forest of Mediterranean oaks and pines and with magnificent views over the southern Rhone valley. The Camp de Cesar is also a renowned mountain biking trail.
The village hosts a Sunday morning Provencal market where you can buy all the fresh local produce.
To celebrate Bastille Day on the 14 July, the village is en fete. We have a feria in the main street which includes the running of the bulls, skillfully controlled by the cowboys of the Camargue, with the blessing of the beautiful white horses taking place first outside the church. There are many bodegas opened up by locals where you can enjoy the local vino and tapas and the whole atmosphere is enhanced by a jazz band. These celebrations are not just confined to July as Laudun loves a feria!
Avignon is 20 mins away with its arts festival in July. We have three of the most beautiful villages in France within a 20 km radius and you can discover the World Heritage Sites of Orange and the Pont du Gard or visit Arles and follow in the footsteps of Van Gogh or just wander the cobbled streets and enjoy the weekly Provencal market in the Duchy of Uzes.
