Overview

About the property

A "home from home" holiday destination with something for all of the family

Situated on the outskirts of Knockando in the heart of Speyside, Grouse Cottage offers comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to six people. The house was built around 1865 and was originally Knockando Police Station, what is now the bathroom was once the cell!.

There are stunning views across open countryside to Ben Rinnes.

Knockando is in an area of Scotland renowned for its outstanding natural beauty, with rolling farmland and heather clad hills rising up from the River Spey.

Speyside is the home of malt whisky and this area forms part of the Whisky Trail with many distilleries on the doorstep. Knockando is home to the Knockando, Tamdhu and Cardhu distilleries and it is only a short drive to other distilleries in the area including Glenfarclas, Glenfiddich and Glenlivet.

The River Spey is renowned for it's fishing while the Speyside way is a popular route for ramblers and there are unlimited options for hiking in the surrounding hills. Mountain bike trails are located nearby within the Cairngorm National Park whilst further afield, the ski town of Aviemore and the beaches of the Moray coast offer excellent opportunities for a day out.

There are plenty of opportunities in the area for a round of golf on the nearby Championship standard Ballindalloch Golf Course. Other courses in the area include Rothes (9 hole course with fantastic views), Elgin (18 hole course) and Dufftown (18 hole course, 2 of its holes (7th and 10th) are featured in “Britain’s 100 Extraordinary Golf Holes” by Geoff Harvey & Vanessa Strowger).

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have you stay in our cottage. You seem to have made yourselves at home and that is what we hope will be the case when people book the cottage. Hopefully, you will return one day!

Very comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a very comfortable cottage for 2 adults. It would be a bit tight in the lounge for 4 or more adults, but there would be plenty of room for children. It was well equipped with everything that we needed for a 1 week stay, with the washer/dryer especially appreciated (we were here in the middle of a 5 week holiday). The location was very convenient, in the middle of the Whisky Trail. Dufftown was approximately 20 minutes away. Several other attractions are within easy driving distance (castles, woolen mill, etc.) There are several very good restaurants in the area, but reservations are recommended. We would definitely stay here again if we were to return to the area.

This is a great cottage. Beautiful setting with a great views looking over the valley to Benrinnes. There is everything you need in the cottage. All the rooms are well laid out with new furniture but it still has a cosy cottage feel.

We had great communication from the owner who was very helpful

Highly recommend.

Liebevoll renoviertes Cottage mit viel Flair

  • 5 of 5
