Hello prospective renters !
I'm a fellow surfer in the Redondo Beach California area and hope you will come and enjoy our Villa in Nosara! I've Just Purchased a very interesting vechicle called a Bajaj Torito which is sort of like a 3 wheel golf cart with a roof over it and a surf board rack has been installed on each side. They drive them all over Asia! It can carry up to 3 people. (So families of 4 or more please rent a vehicle:) which I am including at NO EXTRA CHARGE!. They usually rent for $50 a day down here! The money you will save on the Bajaj for a week is almost like getting my place for free! I JUST HAD SURF BOARD RACKS INSTALLED ON THE Bajaj. 2 RACKS, ONE PER SIDE. Take it to the Beach, grocery store, wherever you like, whenever you like! just fill up the little gas tank for me when you leave:) I have also added a couple of doubles size air mattresses in case you have more people coming:)or more kids:)
The place has 1000 sq.ft. of interior space and 500 sq.ft. of patio. 2 beds (both queen size), 2 bath tubs. Granite & Stainless kitchen with a full complement of appliances, and a laundry room with a clothes washer/dryer. It’s on 1/4 acre with its own private pool that is fully tiled and graduated 4 to 6 feet!! It has super quiet split system a/c's with remote controls. There are 4 separate A/C's, one in each bedroom and two in the living room. The bedrooms have two very attractive ceiling fans and there are two in the living room as well.
You can do every kind of out door activity you can imagine, except snow sports!! You can hear the howler monkeys and parrots; you can completely open the front and sides of the Villa to be fully immersed in the jungle atmosphere. See the pictures here!
Please call me with any questions. Also,if you have a bigger party coming down, my neighbors here may be able to accommodate you so you can have two or more Villas that are adjacent to each other!! This place is a great value for the dollar, and is very close to all the great activities the area has to offer.
To get here, you can fly into Liberia and drive 2 hours south. Or, you can fly into San Jose. From there it is a 4 1/2 hour drive but you can see some scenic things along the way. From either airport now you can now take a small plane with Sansa or Nature air on to the small air strip right here in Nosara, having one of the three (in town) car rental agencies meet you there with a vehicle of your choice :)
You can even take a bus from San Jose for about $8 US dollars! Then hop on my Bajaj in Nosara and not even need to rent a car:)!
I hope you have a great vacation here and I will help in you any way that I can. I also have an excellent property manager named Eduardo with Nosara Office Supply in Nosara that will take care of all your questions when you get here, and by e-mail or phone before you get here :) such as maid service, fun things to do. etc... He has have been here for over 20 years!
You can call me any time on the numbers listed at the bottom:)
If you miss me leave me some good times to call you back:) The latest amenity I have added is a Costa Rica cell phone that you can get from Eduardo and just get your own SIM card. most of your US phones will charge $2.20 a min. if you happen to use your phone:( this will be a way less expensive way to go. You can book excursions and do all sorts of things with your own local phone when in CR:)
Redondo Beach (a Los Angeles suburb city in case you were wondering:) California
You will find at the house, two 24 speed mountain bikes., Surfboards- two epoxy tri fin boards 7'6' & 9'0, one 9'6' and one 8'0' fiberglass. Board rental in the area can be expensive, from $130 a week and up. Save your money and stay at my place!! My favorite and newest board is the bigger fiberglass board.
WE ARE AROUND A 15 MIN DRIVE TO 4 BEACHES:) Guiones, Ostional, Pelada & Nosara, its a little faster by car than the little Bajaj:) Also once you get used to the dirt roads you can go faster after a few days. But, hopefully in Costa Rica you can move more slowly and relax. Remember your on vacation! I've ridden the bicycle to the beach in 25 min.:) so that is an option for those not afraid of a little workout:)
By the way, I cannot guarantee that the Bajaj Torito will be running when you get there as I do not have a fleet of them and some thing could have happened before you got there that is out of my control and the parts have to come from India:) so it is sort of a favor to the renter like the surf boards. So always be prepared to rent a vehicle as a back up plan:) Everything in the 'Nosara' area is spread out in a 3 mile radius so that is why I, and the Lonely Planet travel guide recommend using a motor vehicle.

I'm a fitness trainer/wellness coach/surfer/nature lover/guitar player who lives in the Los Angeles California area.
I love Costa Rica and hope to be able to live there part of the year in the future.
I'm on the left and my buddy Martin who is a music producer in Santa Monica Ca is on the right.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2006
This area has a really low key fun vibe, great surfing, beautiful nature with just the right amount of infrastructure. I'm into fitness and yoga and music and the whole vibe of the place fits me. It also attracts other people who I have a lot in common with:) I eventually am trying to figure out a way to live there part of the year and get out of this overcrowded and overly expensive area I currently live in.
I like Surfing, eating bannana pancakes, playing guitar, snorkleing,an occasional zip line:)
Yoga, Kirtan, jogging,& working on my Spanish is always fun:)
Besides being a great location with tons to do within a few mile radius, Its also a great home base to go visit the rain forrests, Arenal Volcaneo plus many more of the beaches along the coast of the Nicoya Penninsula. I've been to three of the Shiva Rea Yoga New Years Retreats at the Blue Spirit in Garza which is just north of me. I've also been to a great yoga retreat in June of 2011 at my next door neighbors place the Costaricayogaspa. They are the next driveway down from me. There is also a new grocery store right at the Rasta Bridge which is super close to my Villa. less than 1Km. Feel free to call me for more info as I normally go once to twice a year for close to 7 years now:)
This house in the Nosara area has great "bones" but it starting to look a little worn. It seems like a good cleaning and some maintenance is overdue. When we arrived, and walked into the house, there was a unmistakable, odour of something rotting. We discovered the garbage can and the under-sink areas as the source of the odours and soaked the garbage can in some bleach to try and eliminate the smell. The lower cupboards and upper windows need a really good cleaning- and the cookwear is in really sorry shape, There was an unwashed frying pan with dried egg on it, a good indication that perhaps either the cleaners or manager is not doing their job. 5 or 6 lights were burned out, and there were no bedside lamps in one bedroom, just a floor light that couldn't be stood up, so we had to lie it on the floor and not use it. We had no hot water for 2 days until the next-door neighbour turned it on for us; we also had no idea that we had a water reservoir tank that had to be re-filled on occasion. Again, lack of directions. A information binder explaining how all of these work would have been extremely helpful. We also had to ask speciifically about the tuk tuk, and the manager reluctantly showed us how it worked. He was using it as his form of transportation, so we backed off, but asked for it, and received it a few days later. The wifi is weak and sporadic at best- again, some information about the need to reset when the power goes off would be useful. Do not even try to rent this house without airconditioning- it is far too hot to sleep at night without a/c. There is one commuter bike, not two, certainly not 12 or 24 speed as indicated on the website. We are cyclists, and we wouldn't attempt to try to use this type of bike on anything but level ground.
On the bright side, it was really nice to have use of the cell-phone on occasion, but we already purchased a chip card in Liberia for next to nothing. The floors in the place are lovely, and the layout is practical. The beach is just a short drive, and the yoga classes available are top-notch.
The owner seems like a really nice guy, but he needs to come and inspect the property for himself, and see what needs doing, before it degrades further.
We are experienced VRBOer's, and it is the first time I have been disappointed in a rental. We were not looking for anything fancy, and we are familiar with the unreliability of utilities in these area, but a clean rental is a must.
We loved the place, easy access, near everywhere and full amenities.
We have stayed many times in Nosara, but this one has been one of the greatest. The place is private, no need to share the pool or common areas with other guests. And the Bajaj is incredible, an extra value for a great stay.
Maybe at beginning the fact that you can see cameras in all the outside areas made us free like a big brother like sensation, but you get used to them.
We were familiar with the area but I am sure that Dave and Eduardo would do anything you need to get the best experience.
We will come back soon!
Sarah and I fell in love with Nosara, we stayed over a month, Costa Rica is a remarkable country and we will return many times, a great place to bring up children, especially in Nosara. Of course most time is spent at Playa Guiones, surfing is awesome! the boards at the house are good but I opted to rent at Coconut Harry's for a more tailored board to fit my needs. Sarah was involved with a teacher/trainer Pilates course, if you surf, Pilates is amazing for relief and flexibility. We loved the location of the house, off the main dirt road to Ostional, 3 miles outside the surf towns. After a vigorous day at the beach, coming home to surf monkey was perfect. The pool is GREAT, and totally private, in fact the whole house is totally private, there are neighbors, which is good, but the hedges and trees give you freedom to be yourselves. Waking up to monkeys howl still resonates in me and waking up at dawn was normal. The sun sets around 6pm everyday and should never be missed, beautiful! The house is immaculate, minimum mosquitos compared to beach which was a concern, the house has no windows, only huge doors that fold open to the outdoors, seems nuts since you're in the jungle, but for some reason it totally works, i'm convinced its the dragon flies, look up while laying at the pool and you'll see thousands of them above you! I recommend a visit to SIBU, a monkey rescue operation and of course try hard to experience the Arribada at Ostional, only make sure you can get there through the rivers. We had a Daihatsu Bego, only adequate, the roads are rough, get a good big 4x4 to travel through country. Eduardo the manager is incredibly helpful as is David the owner. The beds are comfortable, the layout is perfect for 2 couples (but we liked it to ourselves) you'll be greeted by a calico cat we named Josie, she is a very sweet and remarkable cat. Frankie's organic store is 200 meters north, a must, the Yoga spa is across from him. This house was a very smart move and we will return to it. Enjoy living in surf shorts and flip-flops, and while in CR, don't touch toads, caterpillars, spiders and snakes!
I have rented through VRBO for years now and find many people now how to take pictures to make their homes look better so you will rent. This home is the exact opposite. If you go in the dry season the vegetation won't be as thick, but the home is beautiful and the pictures online are not camera trickery. All the appliances you need are there and in great working order. Safe location with neighbors close enough, but not too close. All the amenities such as the boards, bikes and buggy are exactly as shown and in good condition. This place could be rented by anyone from families to young adults. I rented it for a romantic getaway/surf vacation and it worked out excellent. It is far enough away from the town so you are not in the middle of all the tourists, but close enough that you can get to the main surfing locations in minutes.
The Owner was extremely helpful in planning out our vacation with his local knowledge and pointed us to some very informative websites, which took a lot of the guess work out of the trip. Even when I had issues unrelated to the home the owner made himself available to assist in resolving the situation. I would highly recommend this wonderful villa to anyone.
This vacation was everything we expected it to be and more! It was adventurous: we surfed, zip-lined, tried new fruits (I recommend the Guanabana!), SUP (stand up paddle board) down the river, and saw monkeys in the trees right next to us! It was romantic: we had beautiful dinners and watched the sunset. It was amazing -- meeting the Ticos and people who have lived there for years, and meeting first-time visitors, like ourselves!
As much time as we spent exploring Nosara (the city and beaches) and the neighboring Ostional (the turtles and black sand beach!), we spent a lot of time in the Surf Monkey Villa. It was really relaxing to jump in that pool, or take a nap in the brand new hammock. We spent nights in watching DVDs that we rented for a couple dollars at the Frog Pad. Jason loved disconnecting from technology, but of course, I appreciated the WiFi and checked my emails once a day :)
We learned so much about the city and it was amazing to see that some of the visitors have come year after year for 5, 10, 15+ years -- and we understand why! The Bajaj is awesome with the surf racks and can get you to downtown Guiones and Nosara town! We rented a car because we knew we'd want to explore some neighboring cities, and I'd recommend that if you'd like to do the same. Also, the roads are not well-paved all the time, so it's a bumpy drive in the bajaj or four-wheeler or car. This is a great place to practice your Spanish if you're not fluent ... because everyone here speaks English :) Ahora hablo espanol perfectamente!
Lastly, it's a great place to get connected to your body and wellness -- with lots of great fresh food (especially fruits and seafood) and activities (yoga, surfing, pilates, massages, etc.). We took beginner's yoga classes at Nosara Yoga Institute in a tree house which was so fun and the Costa Rica Yoga Spa is next door to the Villa -- what an amazing view!
We had an amazing time in Nosara and staying at Surf Monkey Villa. The house was perfect and made for a great experience in the jungle. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the pool, the minimalist lifestyle and the location. We had a few occasions where we lost power and water (as everyone there does) but we made due and had a great laugh about it. My only suggestion is to definitely rent a car. You'll want to drive to all the different areas of Nosara. The roads aren't the greatest but it adds to the charm of the town. The neighbors behind us were extremely nice and took us on a hike so we could see the ocean from our area. They didn't speak English and we don't speak Spanish but we communicated just fine. They even opened up coconuts for us to drink! If you're looking for things to do contact both Dave the owner of the house and Heidi at Nosara Travel. They offered great advice and we loved everything they suggested. Heidi took real good care of us and planned every day's activities perfectly. We ate at every place Dave suggested and loved all of them. I was very sad to leave and can only hope to come back real soon and stay at Dave's place and be around the amazing, friendly people of Nosara. This place won't disappoint you.
Our Next door neighbors are the Costa Rica Yoga Spa which are now starting to offer drop in classes and combo packages of a yoga class and a meal! Also massage! Some great restaurants! Live music! Near Playa Ostional, A preserved area where turtles come to lay their eggs, I just got back and was lucky to see some of the little hatchlings making their way to the surf:) There is world class surfing at Playa Guiones, You can take boxing classes, get a massage, There are all kind of tours and charters you can take; fishing, a quad tour, waterfall tour, kayaking, guided nature walks, 4 surf board rental shops in town, ATV rental, In case you want to have 2 of them to cruise around on:) 3 car rental agencies, They can pick you up in your rental car right from the small airport if you want to take a plane in from San Jose or Liberia, There are many options and things to do in this quaint little area. My new manager is the best I have had yet, super nice and has lived in Nosara for 20 years! He can help you with car rental and all kinds of excursion planning.
