This is a 5 star picture postcard 700 year old cottage in the centre of the highly acclaimed and easy accessible village of Hartington, superbly situated adjacent to the Rover Dove. There are three bedrooms, sleeping two in each room and each room has the benefit of a spacious en-suite, one of them a full size bathroom.
The original 700 year old (!) cruck beams can still be seen. The spacious living room is heavily beamed (although not as old as the cottage itself), and has an Inglenook fireplace with imposing dressed stone surround, stone mullioned windows and walls approaching three feet in thickness. Without doubt this is a most relaxing room. There is a television, offering of course full Sky programmes (films and sports package included) and CD player, but who needs these – whether in summer of winter, just sit in the leather settees (with also two fabric covered wing back chairs) and soak in your historical surroundings.The cottage benefits from central heating, fully under the control of guests.The kitchen is top of the range, with a lovely stone sink, gloss worktops, and of course with all necessary appliances, including fridge freezer, dish-washer, washing machine and micro-wave and is adjacent to the open plan beamed dining area. As a challenge guests have occasionally tried to find missing utensils but usually without success. As well as good wifi available throughout the cottage, and the tv in the lounge there are also televisions in each of the bedrooms.There are two double beds and one twin bedroom. Each bedroom has a good sized en-suite (two of the en-suites are shower-rooms, one has a bath - with shower over). Additional to the sky tv in the lounge, there is also a dedicated sky sports room with 55 inch screen and surround sound in the courtyard, (also offering of course Sky Sports and Films channels but also BT sports programmes)
In the cottage there are eleven (!) highly praised personalised information folders, ensuring guests are able to take maximum advantage of their stay in Hartington and its environs. Hartington itself is one of the honey-pot villages in the Peak District, being regarded as an excellent base for walking and cycling. This is helped by its location only a couple of hundred yards from the River Dove. which can easily be reached from the village over an attractive meadow and from there , there is an excellent riverside path down to Dovedale. As a result the village is able to support, despite having only 130 houses, several tea shops, two (excellent) coaching inns, a delicatessen, a grocers, two gift shops, a post office an art studio an antiques shop and famous cheese shop to which many make a point of travelling from miles around. There is also a duck pond which acts as a magnet to many visitors.
The village is approached down a gorgeous but easily driven 2 mile long dale road from one of the Peak District's main artery roads, making it extraordinarily easy to get around to visit the numerous attractions in the Peak District.
On one of the exterior pictures will be seen a bus shelter (some 50 yards away). This is for the excellent punctual reliable and extremely scenic bus service (described in the Daily Telegraph as the most scenic bus route in England) running almost hourly between Buxton to the north and Ashbourne to the south. This service can be used for walkers, catching the bus out and then doing any number of walks back to the village, and has enabled quite a few of our guests to say they gave their cars a holiday too, not having moved them all week.
Guests will see when proceeding to the booking page, that one of the fees included in the quote is called the base rate charge; this is because otherwise quotes for short breaks work out wrongly as this site's computer assumes that a two night mid week break is one half of a four night break (which it very rarely is). By putting in a base rate charge and then reducing the nightly charge the computer generated figure becomes correct whether booking for two, three or four nights.
Please note that the computer generated quote is sometimes (but not always) too low for those looking for a short break that includes only one night of either friday or saturday (it is correct if the short break request includes both a friday and a saturday night). If this situation applies, please simply complete the enquiry section to the right of this page or the 'Contact the Owner' bit (depending on which page you are on), rather proceeding with the ‘Request to Book' section , or 'proceed to booking’ section and the owners will send out a quote with the correct figure.
