Quiet place in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. Ideal for hiking, cycling, skiing and outdoor life.
The house lies in the rural landscape of the village Eysus (near Oloron-Sainte-Marie , 64) flanked by the river l’Ourthau with the Parc National des Pyrenees in the background.
About the house. The ground floor holds a spacious living and dining area with fireplace. Adjacent is semi-open kitchen with ample space for food preparation. A small hallway with coffee and tea bar leads to the back of the house to a full-size bathroom with shower and french window, and a large garage (washing machine, dryer and heater).
Upstairs are three bedrooms and a second bathroom as well as a large mezzanine area. Two bedrooms for two people have folding doors and a balcony overlooking the countryside. The third smaller bedroom has a retractable bed for 1 to 2 persons. The mezzanine has a computer corner on one side and a double foldaway bed on the other.
A large garden surrounds the house and is bound by the river l'Ourthau on the far side - great for exploring! Cars can be parked on the property.
About the neighbourhood. The area is part of the Vallee d'Aspe. Its roads lead you to the high mountain destinations of the Pyrenees. Eastwards towards Laruns, la Gourette and l'Aubisque and going towards west the ski resort Pierre Saint Martin. The main road takes you to Spain starting at Canfranc and on to Yaca, Huesca and beyond.
The nearby town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie is where all groceries can be found as well as the Friday morning market in the centre of town (see Guidebook). There is a beautiful and old cathedral in the Sainte-Marie part of Oloron to visit and a stroll over the bridges of the Gave d'Oloron offers dramatic views of the local houses with the Pyrenees in the background. Several nice cafes and restaurants can be found here too.
A holiday in this region comprises mostly of mountain activities, but places like Bayonne and Biarritz can be reached in a little over an hour. The beautiful sandy beaches of the Atlantique coast are a little further away. A trip to the wonderful cities of San Sebastian and Bilbao in Spain is also within reach. To reach these destinations you travel through Basque country and a visit to Navarrenx and St Jean de Port should is well worth a stop.
