Fabulous New Year Break for all the family
We had a wonderful holiday in the Keld and brockram barns. The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, very tastefully decorated and so comfortable. The Barns were extremely spacious, which combined with beautiful views of the countryside gave a very relaxing feel to the place. Everything has been thought of to ensure that guests have a special holiday, we were greeted by Harriet with a lovely welcome hamper and an informative booklet giving lots of recommendations for places to visit/ eat out locally. We tried The Royal Oak in Appleby which was very nice. We had ordered our shopping to be delivered and it had been unpacked and put away prior to our arrival which was fabulous. We loved the Barns and the surrounding countryside so much that we had booked them again prior to leaving and look forward to returning for more celebrations next year!
Beautiful barns, brilliant location
We've had a great family holiday at Low Ploughland barns. Luxuriously appointed with all en-suite bedrooms (fantastic shower). Loved the remote location but easy to get to, with walks on the doorstep. Cannot recommend this as a place to stay highly enough.
Beautiful barns in a stunning location
As a group of 16 girls aged 25-30 we came for a weekend away, every single one of us were blown away with how lovely the barns were. We had the two barns for the weekend, they are both attached, although you do need to go outside to go between the barns this wasn't a problem. Both barns were fully equipped with everything we needed for the weekend and each one had a welcome package when we arrived which was just lovely. The whole place was beautiful and the beds were amazingly comfy. Harriett couldn't of been more helpful in the lead up to our stay and we are already trying to organise another stay here.
5* country retreat
I cannot recommend Low Ploughlands highly enough! Myself and 13 old school friends stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of December. We were given clear directions and it was very easy to find even in the pitch black.
We were welcomed with little gift baskets in each barn, a thoughtful touch. Harriet popped in to see us on the first night and make sure we had everything. Both barns are decorated beautifully with a real rustic/country feel. The big fires kept us snug all weekend.
The views surrounding the barns are outstanding and there were lots of walks going in all directions. The facilities were brilliant and enabled us to cook big meals for 14 and all eat in the same barn- not an easy feat.
As a group we have been to a couple of holiday lets and this is by far the best- we are already in deep discussion about going back this summer!
Thank you to Harriet for being such a great host!
Fab property in great location
Booked both barns for birthday celebration for family of 10 adults and 8 children and we still had plenty of space. Fantastic time had by all, comfortable beds, great showers, even managed to sit outside in the sun in October! Kids loved outdoor freedom and the fire pit. We all felt sad to leave and would love to visit again. Thank you to Harriet and Ed for a great place for a family get together.
Breathtaking, phenominal and beautiful
We took advantage of booking both properties together, Keld and Brockram are truly wonderful barn conversions.
The location is amazingly peaceful well away from the rat race.
The barns are spacious and well suited to large family gatherings either individually or together. Exceptionally well appointed with indoor games to keep everyone of all ages entertained, 1:25000 scale maps to explore the area, plus you may even get to see Ed with his Argocat on the pond. Kitchens are well equipped and all the furnishings to a really high standard.
Don't forget to make use of the fire pit and build some memories for posterity.
Local walks as suggested by Harriet to a spot on the river Eden where the kids could play in the water and skim stones, quickly became a family favourite. Brough castle is free, although you may feel obliged to buy an Ice Cream :). Kirkby Stephen is also beautiful with plenty of places to eat, gift shops and back streets to explore.
Every grown-up in our party is regretting the Monday return to work and wishing they were still at Ploughlands.
We have every intention of a return visit.
We are thrilled you had such a lovely time and look forward to welcoming you back.
Our location is enviable, the barn looks out to the Pennines in the East, which often glow red in the evening light and by day the clouds dance their shadow across them; to the south you can see the marching army of Nine Standards where the Coast to Coast path crosses into Yorkshire and the Mallerstang Valley which holds the source of the River Eden; to the north and south is a rural idyll of farmland and woodland that hold bountiful wildlife from Roe Deer, Red Squirrel, Hare and Stoat to name but a few.
We are a few miles from the extended North Yorkshire National Park, which has endless walks, cycle rides and many other outdoor activities.
Nearby are cosy village pubs, to enjoy good local country fare. The local towns of Appleby and Kirkby Stephen are full of historical buildings, cafe's and gift shops.
If you fancy venturing further our nearest lake is Ullswater which is about 40 minutes bu car. Here you can climb, catch steam boats, sail or simply enjoy the views.
