About this property

HIGH SPEED FIBER OPTIC WIFI; Tranquil Treehouse on 2.5 Acres; Affordable Luxury

Your own tranquil Treehouse with the most reliable and fastest fiber optic internet (250+mbps) in the mountains is secluded on 2.5 acres of silver birch, mountain laurel and hardwoods, only 3 miles from downtown Highlands. The charm here is magical for a perfect romantic getaway or to just get away from it all. Authors have written books here! It is a unique place from which to hike nearby Whiteside Mountain or enjoy the waterfalls, trout streams, restaurants, shopping and seasonal festivals, concerts and theater of the Highlands region.

When you first arrive, you may enter the Treehouse from the front porch, which has easy access for the mobility impaired and has stacks of firewood for your use during cooler months. You may also enter from the long, high back porch with its swing and porch lounge chairs overlooking wooded grandeur as the land falls away beneath you. Both porches run the width of the house.

You will enter the Great Room with its 22+ feet high cathedral ceiling that gives a wonderful feeling of spaciousness and windows that let in the abundance of natural light and the forest outside. You will view the beautiful dining and living room areas, the rock fireplace, and a very comfortable sofa in front of a coffee table filled with local literature of things to see and do. Just beyond, high on the back wall, you will see a 50" Smart TV with Direct TV, Roku, Netflix and more. You will be standing on thick hardwoods throughout the house.

As you look around, you will notice the dark granite counters and wood cabinets in the full kitchen. The windows by the indoor fireplace overlook the outdoor fire pit area surrounded by rocking chairs. The outdoor fire pit circle is at the end of a long gravel driveway and has a picnic table with umbrella as well as a park style grill. (This is the lower level driveway but there is also parking right in front of the cabin.)

Walk towards the back door and you can turn into the master bedroom with its comfy, king size bed and full bath. All luxury linens and towels are provided and beds will be made when you arrive. Go back to the Great Room and you can go up the stairs to the high, open loft bedroom with its queen size bed, writing desk, and full bath with shower.

The Treehouse is fully furnished. High speed fiber optic internet and WIFI and free long distance calling in the United States on the land line are provided. Mobile reception in the mountains can be spotty but if you enable WiFi Calling on your cellphone & connect to the Treehouse WiFi, reception is good.

Day or evening, you may want to swing or rock on the porch. Enjoy a beverage and the ultimate peace and tranquility of deliciously cool days and crisp nights of summer and early fall. In the late fall and winter months, a warm and cozy fire in the rock fireplace will beckon.

Highlands and Cashiers have incredible restaurants, unique shops, golf, hiking, waterfalls, and trout streams.

Thanksgiving Getaway
We treated our Mother in law to her first stay in Highlands, and this was the perfect cabin for us! It was close to town, plenty of space, and a cozy fireplace for us to sit by in the evenings. We had our 5 month old baby and dog with us as well and it couldn’t have been easier. Thank you for the great stay!

On June 1st 2020, Chris, Sarah and their son Tom Finn Dunn became the grateful new owners of the Highlands Treehouse.

The Dunns reside in Houston Texas and have been vacationing in the Highlands/Cashiers area for nearly a decade. What started out as just “visiting the grandparents” quickly became an anticipated part of their family tradition to escape hot Houston summers.

Chris is a professor of English and Creative Writing at Houston Community College and Sarah works as a part time nurse and interior design executive assistant at EDI-International Architectural Firm. Tom Finn will be starting the 5th grade at River Oaks Elementary School this fall. The Dunns have two rescue dogs Maude and Margot who also head up to the mountains to make fun filled memories.

The Dunns have made many mountain friends and look forward to sharing the best of the mountains with their guests, for whom they wish to create a truly exceptional experience. If you have any questions or special requests, please give us a call. We look forward to having you visit.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting the mountains of western North Carolina for nearly a decade and have fallen in love with the area. We decided to purchase The Treehouse, so we could make a permanent connection with the mountains and waterfalls and old growth forests that make up the Highlands and the surrounding region. We have taken great care in keeping the magical atmosphere that the previous owners, our new friends Larry and Debi, created at The Treehouse. For those guests who have experienced Larry and Debi’s hospitality and the quiet beauty of the home and property, we want to assure you that we are keeping in place all that make The Treehouse such a special place.
