You can't be more surrounded by tranquil beauty than from this beachfront, beach-level condo on Half Moon Bay in Akumal. Akumal is a quiet, very private, residential community of low-rise condos and private villas generously spaced out along the beach, with many fine restaurants and world renowned walk-off-the-beach snorkeling and diving. Akumal also has many offerings for visitors, done in a low-key but high quality way, including a Spa, a gym and a Yoga Studio. Local condo management is onsite to assure continued quality throughout your stay.

Here, just an hour’s drive straight south on a well paved road from Cancun, you escape the hustle and bustle, kick off your shoes, don your swim suit, and plunge into the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Walk bare-footed in T shirt and shorts to a beachfront restaurant for fabulous fajitas and a margarita if you like. All the local restaurants in Akumal treat their water making the dining completely safe as well as delicious. We've also now installed a high tech water treatment and filtration system that provides 100% safe drinking water on tap in our kitchen, for your safety and convenience.

The condo, situated on a white sandy beach, has gorgeous water views and is private because of beautiful tropical landscaping surrounding the patio. Inside,our newly renovated and decorated condo the rooms are light and airy, brightly color coordinated with Mexican Caribbean charm. There are open views of the water from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and Master bedroom suite. The unit has an open floor plan with a step down living room opening onto a beach level patio large enough for dining or relaxing in a Mayan hammock.

Both ceiling fans and air conditioning are available for your comfort. Most of the time the gentle breezes make air conditioning unnecessary. We now have 2 TVs with DVD players, and a lending library of DVDs in our accommodating guest office. Effective July 09 we will have satellite TV service. Your US cell phone should work from this locale, and you can access e-mail and the Internet through our high speed wireless and Ethernet connection. An iPod speaker deck allows you to enjoy high fidelity sound from your own iPod. Access to an ATM in town is available. Rental of bicycles and golf carts along with frequent mini buses plying the highway connecting Akumal to the other coastal communities make renting a car optional during your stay.

Akumal has two mini-supermarkets, with a good selection of American products. A small market suitable for last minute items, is just a minute’s walk from the condo. Several large American-style supermarkets are nearby in Playa del Carmen, and a new, large supermarket carrying a wide range of American brands, fresh produce, etc, is just 10 minutes down the highway. Laundry service is available in Akumal as are local cooks to prepare regional cuisine right in your kitchen. Ask at the front desk. The Maya Riveria is replete with gorgeous natural attractions centered around water. Akumal has two dive shops and excellent snorkeling and swimming are right out the door in Half Moon Bay, in Akumal Bay, or in Yal-ku Lagoon, famous for its snorkeling. Numerous cenotes (fascinating natural fresh water-filled holes and caverns popular for swimming and diving) and beaches all within 12 miles of Akumal include Tankah, Aktun Chen Caves, Xpu-Ha, Paradise and Dos Ojos. Xel-Ha (10 miles away) is a wonderful snorkeling park and Xcaret (18 miles) combines water sports, snorkeling, Mayan culture, and history. Both have swim with the dolphins programs. The other new outdoor-oriented theme park, XPlor, is a short drive away. Other area sports include deep sea fishing, beach horseback riding, golf, and tennis. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere, a beautiful reserve with wildlife and miles of deserted beaches is south of Akumal and Tulum. There are two major nature preserves in the Yucatan, which are particularly popular with birders. If you love beautiful beaches, there's no need to leave Half Moon Bay, but if you like to explore, there are miles of beautiful beaches all around for a day excursion.

There are numerous Mayan Ruins nearby including Tulum, only 15 miles away, Coba (25 miles), and Chitzen Itza, a long day's trip via the new Tulum road. There are many shopping options, including charming shops in Akumal, shops near Akumal at the Hacienda, in Puerta Aventuras, and extensive options in Playa del Carmen (22 miles). There are many fascinating Mexican and Mayan crafts, with silver and Talavera pottery being big favorites. Playa is a large town with great shopping, great restaurants, and night life. From here board a boat for an all day trip to Cozumel, another great spot for diving, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing. Playacar (21 miles away) is a Resort development with an 18 hole golf course, tennis and swimming. Puerto Aventuras (ten miles away) offers tennis, golf, swim with the dolphins, and restaurants.

Amazing stay at La Bahia in Akumal

We had just an amazing time stay! Really, I can't say we had anything negative to say about the place or our trip. The place was spacious, and had all the amenities we could possibly ask for. We were even able to watch football on Sunday morning! The weather turned out perfect (although we were a bit concerned about hurricane Matthew's path days before leaving). We maybe had ten minutes of rain the whole trip!

The staff at La Bahia were just awesome; they were helpful and available for whatever we needed. We were there with a couple who had been to Akumal and stayed at La Bahia before (they stayed in #3 both times), so it was nice having them to guide us around Akumal and show us all the spots. But really it's an easy place to navigate. We were able to rent bikes right there at La Bahia, and they were a perfect way to get around. The staff was always available to put air in the tires or fix any issues we had, which we did not.

We did a lot of the touristy things: snorkeled and spent time at Akumal Bay, Coba, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum Ruins, and Ya Kul. Absolutely loved the restaurant La Buena Vida (just a short bike ride or walk from La Bahia), and spent a lot of time there. We had a number of meals there also, all very good! La Lunita, a short ride/walk the other direction was also very, very good. Ya Kul was a phenomenal snorkeling spot, and it's just a short ride away also. But really, snorkeling in front of La Bahia was as good as any place I've been to, lot of coral, fish, and clear water. Half moon bay is just gorgeous and unmatched at sunrise. We were also able to see plenty of turtles in Akumal bay (a mile or so away), and the beach there is the best I've seen, ever. We have been to both Jamaica and the Dominican (Punta Cana), but I would much rather return to Akumal. It's an amazing little pocket of paradise and much more affordable than a resort!

Tranquil Paradise

My husband, our yorkie and I spent 16 fun filled days at Kassie & Robs condo. It was everything we had hoped for. The panoramic view was beautiful and to be on the ground floor was perfect. The snorkeling in Half Moon Bay, Akumal Bay and Yalku was awesome. It was refreshing to see such healthy vibrant reefs filled with abundant sea life. The staff were very accomodating, polite and eager to please. It was extremely humid during our stay, so the airconditioning ensured a comfortable place to get cooled off. This is our 3rd visit to Akumal. We enjoy this quaint little town and have always felt very safe. We look forward to returning again and hope that this adorable condo is available. Kassie & Rob were fantastic during the entire process of arranging this get away. Many thanks :)

Mom and daughter get away

I rarely write reviews, in fact literally never, but this lovely condo on the beach was perfect for us. The condo was comfortable and well equipped and clean. The location is just perfect, less than 1 km from the lovely lagoon, Yal Ku, a short walk to several restaurants on the beach, and far enough away from the main center of Akumal (1 km walk) that it was quiet and untrafficked. There is a lot of seaweed washed up on the beach up and down the coast this year, which you have to walk on/through to get to the water, but that did not deter us! We had rented a car, and there is offstreet parking for La Bahia, so we were able to get around and see Coba and visit the nature park at Aktun Chen for ziplining, cenote swimming and a fantastic cave walk. Aktun Chen is about 10 minutes away from Akumal, and was a ton of fun for 2 moms with 2 teenage daughters! We'll be back!!

My family has been visiting Akumal for a few years, but this was the first time that we rented from Kassie. The location is perfect, and the unit is lovely. The staff were accommodating, friendly and helpful. The only issue that we had is the unusual amount of seaweed that is being washed onto the beach this year, which makes getting in and out of the sea a little more difficult than usual but that is hardly something that can be helped. Also, thanks to Kassie's recommendation, we visited Coba this year, which is far far nicer and less crowded than the ruins at Tulum. Thank you Kassie for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: This guest knows how WONDERFUL Akumal is through her repeat visits to Half Moon Bay. Unfortunately this year a bit of the Sargasso Sea (huge body of seaweed drifting in the Atlantic Ocean) reached Akumal while she was in residence. This is a very rare occurrence. No risk to swimmers or snorkelers, but still we'd rather not have it. Not expected again for a very long time.

Beachfront Paradise!

A perfect condo in a perfect location. Kassie and Robert were very professional during the reservation process. The info provided after reservation was made was spot-on. The condo is as beautiful as the pics. Literally is 25 steps from the water's edge. The potable water was very appreciated. The condo was immaculately cleaned every day at 10:00am. A nice touch that the daily paper was left for us with each cleaning. Half Moon Bay is beautiful...peaceful, no crowds, & not marred by any high-rise resorts. It might not seem like a big deal; but, it was so nice that we only heard power landscape equipment literally once during the entire week and it was while we walked by a property about 10 minutes way. The beach in front of the condo is hand-raked every morning, keeping it neat as a pin. Great snorkeling out on Half Moon Bay's reef. Akumal itself is a gem of a town. Very walk-able & extremely safe. Yal-Ku Lagoon (5 minute drive north on the street the condo's on) is perfect for a few hours of snorkeling (more fish in the morning). Ojos Cenote Dos Ojos (10 mins south on 307) was an awesome, though bit pricey, snorkeling experience. Mayan ruins are easy to get to. We went to both Tulum and Coba, the latter of which you can still climb up the main temple (which is taller than Chichen Itza) and local Mayans can be hired as guides. We'd definitely stay here again! Thank you, Robert & Kassie!

An amazing get away!

I'm from the busy New York City, so some friends and I were looking for the perfect getaway for the New Year. I could not have been more pleased with our choice to stay in Kassie and Robert's condo. We were able to walk right onto the beach with our coffee in hand and enjoy the quiet and private sands of Akumal. Tulum is just a quick trip by car but there is snorkeling and shopping just walking distance from the condo. Kassie and Robert's detailed list of things to do and tips for the area came in handy and were used almost every day. This trip will be a very memorable one and I hope to come back some day soon!
