You can't be more surrounded by tranquil beauty than from this beachfront, beach-level condo on Half Moon Bay in Akumal. Akumal is a quiet, very private, residential community of low-rise condos and private villas generously spaced out along the beach, with many fine restaurants and world renowned walk-off-the-beach snorkeling and diving. Akumal also has many offerings for visitors, done in a low-key but high quality way, including a Spa, a gym and a Yoga Studio. Local condo management is onsite to assure continued quality throughout your stay.
Here, just an hour’s drive straight south on a well paved road from Cancun, you escape the hustle and bustle, kick off your shoes, don your swim suit, and plunge into the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Walk bare-footed in T shirt and shorts to a beachfront restaurant for fabulous fajitas and a margarita if you like. All the local restaurants in Akumal treat their water making the dining completely safe as well as delicious.
The condo, situated on a white sandy beach, has gorgeous water views and is private because of beautiful tropical landscaping surrounding the patio. Inside,our newly renovated and decorated condo the rooms are light and airy, brightly color coordinated with Mexican Caribbean charm. There are open views of the water from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and Master bedroom suite. The unit has an open floor plan with a step down living room opening onto a beach level patio large enough for dining or relaxing in a Mayan hammock.
Both ceiling fans and air conditioning are available for your comfort. Most of the time the gentle breezes make air conditioning unnecessary. We now have 2 TVs with DVD players, and a lending library of DVDs in our accommodating guest office. We have satellite TV service. Your US cell phone should work from this locale, and you can access e-mail and the Internet through our high speed wireless and Ethernet connection. An iPod speaker deck allows you to enjoy high fidelity sound from your own iPod. Access to an ATM in town is available. Rental of bicycles and golf carts along with frequent mini buses plying the highway connecting Akumal to the other coastal communities make renting a car optional during your stay.
Akumal has two mini-supermarkets, with a good selection of American products. A small market suitable for last minute items, is just a minute’s walk from the condo. Several large American-style supermarkets are nearby in Playa del Carmen, and a new, large supermarket carrying a wide range of American brands, fresh produce, etc, is just 10 minutes down the highway. Laundry service is available in Akumal as are local cooks to prepare regional cuisine right in your kitchen. Ask at the front desk. The Maya Riveria is replete with gorgeous natural attractions centered around water. Akumal has two dive shops and excellent snorkeling and swimming are right out the door in Half Moon Bay, in Akumal Bay, or in Yal-ku Lagoon, famous for its snorkeling. Numerous cenotes (fascinating natural fresh water-filled holes and caverns popular for swimming and diving) and beaches all within 12 miles of Akumal include Tankah, Aktun Chen Caves, Xpu-Ha, Paradise and Dos Ojos. Xel-Ha (10 miles away) is a wonderful snorkeling park and Xcaret (18 miles) combines water sports, snorkeling, Mayan culture, and history. Both have swim with the dolphins programs. The other new outdoor-oriented theme park, XPlor, is a short drive away. Other area sports include deep sea fishing, beach horseback riding, golf, and tennis. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere, a beautiful reserve with wildlife and miles of deserted beaches is south of Akumal and Tulum. There are two major nature preserves in the Yucatan, which are particularly popular with birders. If you love beautiful beaches, there's no need to leave Half Moon Bay, but if you like to explore, there are miles of beautiful beaches all around for a day excursion.
There are numerous Mayan Ruins nearby including Tulum, only 15 miles away, Coba (25 miles), and Chitzen Itza, a long day's trip via the new Tulum road. There are many shopping options, including charming shops in Akumal, shops near Akumal at the Hacienda, in Puerta Aventuras, and extensive options in Playa del Carmen (22 miles). There are many fascinating Mexican and Mayan crafts, with silver and Talavera pottery being big favorites. Playa is a large town with great shopping, great restaurants, and night life. From here board a boat for an all day trip to Cozumel, another great spot for diving, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing. Playacar (21 miles away) is a Resort development with an 18 hole golf course, tennis and swimming. Puerto Aventuras (ten miles away) offers tennis, golf, swim with the dolphins, and restaurants.

Perfect Spot on the Beach
We live in Montana, and this condo provided the perfect place to relax, walk the beach, snorkel, eat at excellent restaurants and sip margueritas and mojitos, lay in the sun, visit. The sounds of the ocean and ocean breeze lulled us to sleep. All cooking utensils and plates were in the cupboards. Coffee was supplied, however, if you prefer your own, bring it. A small convenience store only a few doors down was great. Did bigger food and drink shopping nearby. Owner gave great instructions and suggestions. It was not a let down. It was perfect. Perfect Condo on the Beach
We had a great stay. The staff was very helpful and the property was clean and nice. It was so nice to have it cleaned every day! Makes it a real vacation for a mom. Lots of restaurants with in walking distance and great snorkeling out of our back door as well as off of the Akumal public beach. We were sad we did not see any sea turtle, however lots of tropical fish, and barracuda made it exciting. We were able to find a lot of Costco (Kirkland) products at the market right in Akumal which was a life saver with kids. Great price, I highly recommend.

Amazing, quiet beachfront paradise!!
La Bahia was an ideal location for our family! The white sandy beach was beautiful...walking distance to great restaurants, Yal ku lagoon and Akumal Bay-love this peaceful Mexican community!!
Clean, quiet, beachfront
This is a clean and quiet property in a tranquil community. Being on the first floor, it is nice to walk right out onto the beach a few steps away. The daily housekeeping was unobtrusive and keeps everything tidy. Easy parking out back, small convenience store just down the street, and a couple of good restaurants within close walking distance. We also enjoyed the snorkeling lagoon and Akumal restaurants a longer walk or short drive away.

Karen and I were very comfortable in your condo. It was exactly as you had described in your letter. The access to the beach and the views from your sitting area were exactly what we were hoping for. The condo staff was excellent. The cleaning staff was efficient and the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. The area was very safe as you said and felt very comfortable walking around after dark. We had all our meals out, other than breakfast, and found the restaurants in Akumal to our liking. We particularly enjoyed the fresh salad and vegetable offerings at La Buena Vida.
Karen and I usually walked many miles every day so the distance to any restaurant in town was an easy stroll for us as well. We did visit the ruins in Coba, snorkeled at the Yal Ku Lagoon, and took the collectivos to Playa del Carmen (however this area turned out to not be interesting to us). We also enjoyed the beach right outside our door: snorkeling in front of the condo, reading, and taking daily walks. The weather was not the greatest (generally, cloudy, cool, and breezy) but no one can control the weather. Apparently, this weather was not typical.

Relaxing Stay in Akumal Bahia Condominium No. 1
Great spot to stay right on Half Moon Bay. In this ground level unit, you can walk right out to beach. The unit was clean and spacious and each bedroom had its own bathroom. Reyna cleaned everyday and she was such a pleasant person too. Convenient location to many restaurants (La Lunita and Turtle Bay Cafe our favorites), and Yal Ku lagoon and the big Akumal Bay for snorkeling. We saw turtles in Akumal Bay and many fish in the lagoon and the bay too. My husband snorkeled in Half Moon Bay too but the entry is a bit rocky.

Mexican gov't required tax is 16% IVA and 3% hotel tax. For reservations of one week or more charges can be split among 3 payments with full payment due 90 days in advance. Seasonal rate changes among standard, high, and holiday seasons vary each year depending on the calendar, particularly the dates of Easter, Christmas and New Years. Rates are subject to change and are only final at the time of rental confirmation.
