Overview

Santa Fe Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 6-9)

This classic mountain cabin near Santa Fe, in a canyon with a creek surrounded by the National Forest, is one of the finest properties of its kind in the Rocky Mountain West. Constructed of antique hand-hewn oak beams, wide-planked floors, and aged-wood ceilings, yet offering modern amenities such as silent radiant floor heat and hi-speed Wi-Fi Internet access, it is the only property of its kind and quality for vacation rentals within moderate driving distance (20 to 30 minutes)of downtown Santa Fe.

NORMALLY ONLY AVAILABLE NOVEMBER THROUGH MARCH.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE STANDARD NIGHTLY RATE QUOTED IS FOR TWO PEOPLE. THE RATE FOR FOUR IS $300, AND AND THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL $25 CHARGE FOR EACH ADDITIONAL PERSON and RATES ARE HIGHER FOR HOLIDAYS

A separate guest cabin with separate small kitchen and is joined to the main cabin by a covered porch. Altogether, the property sleeps up to nine people in three separate bedrooms with beds and private baths, living room with sofa bed and its own private bath, and guest cabin main room with cot.

The property is available November through March. The final 2.5 miles of Forest Service road to the property is unpaved and bumpy in places. FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE IS RECOMMENDED AT TIMES. CALL. Snow plowing is provided by the owners.

Cell phone service is spotty in the cabin but usually working outside on most networks. Your cell phone number can be forwarded to the cabin phone, and free long distance with an agreed-on cap is available.

Though the Forest Service Road to the cabin continues to the Santa Fe Ski Basin, it is closed in winter just past the cabin. Driving time to the Santa Fe Ski Basin is over an hour. You can have someone drop you off at the top of the road where it joins the ski basin road and ski the six miles down to the cabin from there (best with cross country skis but possible with downhill skis, a good amount of poling).

Perfect cozy cabin for a long weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a girls' long-weekend at the cabin, sorely needed by most of us, and the incredible experience was one we hope to repeat annually. SF had just received a hefty snowfall, so the outdoor ambiance was just as picture-perfect as the cozy, warm interior. Hosts George and Donna care for this cabin as if it were their own, because it is their own, and it shows. They were there to greet us personally upon arrival, even though we had printed instructions with directions, tv codes, etc. The wood-burning stove (with plenty of wood available) and radiant-heated floors kept the cabin toasty warm. It was hard to break up our conversations at night -- everyone enjoyed the easy camaraderie of sharing that special, cozy space, light-years away from the hustle-bustle of our usual schedules. We never even turned on the television -- it would have been an unwelcome distraction in our otherwise serene cabin in the snowy woods! The kitchen is fully furnished, even though we opted to dine in SF for most meals. Be sure to request a 4-wheel-drive rental if snow is on the ground or forecast during your visit -- ours was a standard 4WD SUV rental from ABQ and it did fine. Take advantage of the hosts' knowledge of the area and ask for suggestions for excursions other than the touristy sites. We were pointed to Chimayo, an unhurried drive to a picturesque village, followed by an authentic NM meal at Rancho de Chimayo. All-in-all, one of the best getaways ever! This will become an annual tradition. Highly recommend!

An Amazing Trip We Will Never Forget

  • 5 of 5

What a divine cabin and a very special family. George and Donna really know how to make a family feel at home. The pictures online do not do this cabin justice - it was simply perfect. From the moment George met us to escort us to the cabin, we felt their kind hospitality and love for their special place. The beds are extremely comfy, the wood-burning stove is perfect after a day in the snow, the kitchen is extremely well-stocked and the bathrooms are plentiful. Being in the middle of the Santa Fe National Forest is stunningly beautiful. The boys and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back! George and Donna are the perfect, thoughtful hosts - it's clear they love their guests. Thank you for such wonderful memories!

Magical Christmas Adventure!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this remarkable cabin in the beautiful mountains for Christmas was truly one of the most magical holidays we have ever spent! Our entire family, from ages 9 months through 70+ years, was able to enjoy the charm and warmth of being together in a snow-covered, yet still accessible, mountain setting. The cabin itself is roomy, incredibly comfortable, beautifully decorated with all the touches of a skilled interior designer and right on a hillside that is perfect for sledding (sleds were available!) We skied on the other side of the mountain at the public ski slope, which was so much fun and appropriate for all levels of skiers. Santa was able to find the mountain cabin, and with the cozy fire in the fireplace and the fully equipped kitchen, we had a wonderfully warm day and evening celebrating together. This turned out to be the last Christmas we would all spend together, and it ended up being one of my mom's (age 72) favorite memories. Our pictures are incredible but just couldn't capture the wonder and magic of the week's experience. We went into Santa Fe for the Farolito walk (amazing luminaries) with all ages on Christmas Eve, ending with a delicious, traditional New Mexican Christmas Eve dinner. We had shopped previously at wonderful shops and thoroughly enjoyed being together in this fairy tale setting. Our joy was full. The owners of the cabin are incredible resources for activities and are entertaining and interesting, if you have the opportunity to get to know them. I can highly recommend this property, especially at Christmas! We are returning there this summer!

A Magical Place

  • 5 of 5

This charming storybook cabin offers a magical retreat that aptly confirms New Mexico as the true "Land of Enchantment." After daily excursions to places such as Bandelier, nearby pueblos, or the museums, shops, restaurants, and art galleries of Taos and Santa Fe, we always looked forward to the comfort and quiet of this beautiful cabin. Constructed of found and repurposed materials, decorated with Navajo rugs, art work, and comfortable furniture, it reflects the creativity, imagination, and good taste of the owners. We look forward to another visit and would highly recommended it as a vacation destination.
