About JP MacFadyen

While living in Colorado Springs, JP and Michelle decided to pursue our dream of a cabin in the mountains. We knew the day would come when we'd move back to Lafayette, LA to be closer to family. We hoped that when the day for the move came, we'd be able to keep our mountain cabin. Now we enjoy family vacations to the mountains for ski trips and to escape the heat and humidity of summertime in Louisiana. Sharing our cabin with VRBO renters has been another blessing.

JP MacFadyen purchased this cabin in 2005

Why JP MacFadyen chose Fairplay

We chose Park County so we could be in the mountains without all the craziness of a tourist town. We love visiting the museums and shops in Fairplay during the summer. And we ski at Breckenridge, Keystone, A-basin, Vail and Monarch in the winter. Fairplay is centrally located for excellent fishing in the summer. It's a 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is located on 3 acres in the Sun Mountain sub-division. We love the quiet! So quiet that you can hear your ears ringing! Our time at the cabin is a time to unplug from the rest of the world. No TVs or internet connections here. Just lots of family time around the wood stove, games, storytelling, reading and walks in the woods.

Guestbook comments from the owner

These are a few comments that I pulled from our Cabin LogBook.“You all have a beautiful place. A lovely, peaceful, spot. More beautiful than we could have imagined. Thank you for this experience.” The Finns, 2005“What a fantastic week! Lots of laughter. We all conquered new things! We made some great memories here. Good memories: Belly laughs while sledding down the hill and crashing into the snow banks. The amazing star-filled sky. Seeing the children learn to ski.” The Wybles, 2006“This is an awesome cabin in a beautiful location. The pictures we saw didn’t do it justice. This is a great place for family bonding. Every night was new games and puzzles. ………We thank you for this opportunity to take our family to God’s country and enjoy nature at it’s best.” The Heberts, 2007“We ventured out and explored central and front range Colorado. Our highlights: drive to Buckskin Gulch and hiking up Mt. Democrat, white water rafting in Buena Vista, the scenic route up Boreas Pass and Sprague Lake. There are many great spots to be explored! God has left incredible places to touch our souls. Thank you so much!” The Youngs, 2007“Whenever I think of the words relaxing and peaceful, I will always think of this place. … I think my favorite part was being in a place with no TV or computer surrounded by all this beauty. It is truly a special place and a great spot to make great memories. We can’t wait to come back…” The Lingles, 2005

Comfortable High altitude escape from the desert

We enjoyed our time at FairPlay. The cabin is very large and set up well for large groups also. On arrival there was a minor inconvenience. The owner immediately responded and quickly addressed the issue in a manner exceeding expectations. Nice and cool.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at the cabin! The only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer! Everything was exactly as described. Away from it all but close enough to town in case you forget anything. So much to do in the area. We would go back in a second! Thank you!

absolutly wonderful

  • 5 of 5

My family and I looked forward to this weekend for 6 months. When we pulled up to the cabin I was so excited. It exceeded my expectations. I loved the privacy, the views, the layout of the house. My grandchildren went nuts over the tee pees. We did a lot of four wheeling in three days and it was so nice to come back to someplace we could just relax and all be together. We stayed up late and got up early to go wheeling , we ate together, everyone pitched in to clean up. My children are close but this weekend I think renewed their commitment to each other.

Thank you so much for this opportunity and we are considering doing it again next year on the same weekend. I hope this cabin is still available when we make plans.

It was sad to see that other people who have stayed there couldn't read the no outside fire signs. But I totally understand why there should not be any.

The only thing my children recommended is changing the mattress in the basement. It is a little soft.

Thank you again

The perfect blend of comfort, accesibility and wildness

  • 5 of 5

Renting this home for our first vrbo experience was a real treat. Everything was clean and organized. The owner was easy to work with. We appreciated the way we could get to good hiking without having to camp. We brought 3 kids with us, and like others have said, it was a great location for an unplugged family time.

Great cabin and close to wonderful hiking and Fairplay South Park Museum

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great. Lots of room, wonderful living area, plenty of good sleeping options. Sitting on the porch watching the small animals in the yard was fun. And the kids enjoyed playing in the teepees. Just a short drive north to some great hiking trails, and South Park City Museum in Fairplay was a fantastic old mining town (the kids insisted on 2 visits here). If we're back in the area another year, we'd definitely rent this cabin again.
