About JP MacFadyen

While living in Colorado Springs, JP and Michelle decided to pursue our dream of a cabin in the mountains. We knew the day would come when we'd move back to Lafayette, LA to be closer to family. We hoped that when the day for the move came, we'd be able to keep our mountain cabin. Now we enjoy family vacations to the mountains for ski trips and to escape the heat and humidity of summertime in Louisiana. Sharing our cabin with VRBO renters has been another blessing.

JP MacFadyen purchased this cabin in 2005

Why JP MacFadyen chose Valley of the Sun

We chose Park County so we could be in the mountains without all the craziness of a tourist town. We love visiting the museums and shops in Fairplay during the summer. And we ski at Breckenridge, Keystone, A-basin, Vail and Monarch in the winter. Fairplay is centrally located for excellent fishing in the summer. It's a 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is located on 3 acres in the Sun Mountain sub-division. We love the quiet! So quiet that you can hear your ears ringing! Our time at the cabin is a time to unplug from the rest of the world. No TVs or internet connections here. Just lots of family time around the wood stove, games, storytelling, reading and walks in the woods.

Guestbook comments from the owner

These are a few comments that I pulled from our Cabin LogBook.“You all have a beautiful place. A lovely, peaceful, spot. More beautiful than we could have imagined. Thank you for this experience.” The Finns, 2005“What a fantastic week! Lots of laughter. We all conquered new things! We made some great memories here. Good memories: Belly laughs while sledding down the hill and crashing into the snow banks. The amazing star-filled sky. Seeing the children learn to ski.” The Wybles, 2006“This is an awesome cabin in a beautiful location. The pictures we saw didn’t do it justice. This is a great place for family bonding. Every night was new games and puzzles. ………We thank you for this opportunity to take our family to God’s country and enjoy nature at it’s best.” The Heberts, 2007“We ventured out and explored central and front range Colorado. Our highlights: drive to Buckskin Gulch and hiking up Mt. Democrat, white water rafting in Buena Vista, the scenic route up Boreas Pass and Sprague Lake. There are many great spots to be explored! God has left incredible places to touch our souls. Thank you so much!” The Youngs, 2007“Whenever I think of the words relaxing and peaceful, I will always think of this place. … I think my favorite part was being in a place with no TV or computer surrounded by all this beauty. It is truly a special place and a great spot to make great memories. We can’t wait to come back…” The Lingles, 2005

Beautiful property

  • 4 of 5

This was a great experience for our kids. No t.v. to distract them from enjoying the outdoors.

The good plenty of bed space, great outdoors, good showers.

The not so good, hard to get to in the snow (chains recommended), the heat was lagging when it was very cold.

All in all totally worth the memories that we made.

Breathtaking Views all the way to the cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved the cabin, the views/scenery all the way up and we loved JPs communication with any questions we had. I'm going to list some areas on the trip that will better prepare myself for the next trip hopefully it helps you as well. We live in Texas and are very reliable on HEB grocery stores, after we left Tx all there was were alot of small mom n pop shops they don't have the variety as a Wal-Mart or HEB.

The ALTITUDE, the air is very thin up there make sure you stay hydrated before n during the stay and oxygen cans from in town do help. My 4yr old son was sick but me ,my wife ,and my 11yr old daughter were ok. Effects everyone differently.

DAY OR NIGHT. We didnt realize we would get to the cabin after dark as it gets dark very early there. We were on the last road headed up to the cabin and it turned to a steep hill. My cousin was in a brand new Chevy truck and I was in a 2013 dodge charger. He started up the hill only going about 5mph and started to slide back. I started up the hill going 25mph and passed him up and never slid back. He had to use tire chains to go up and I didn't. Not sure if it was his truck was to heavy or if he was just going to slow.

JP has plenty of sleds for the kids and a kid size snowboard which all our children enjoyed.

WE brought our own tv and DVD player to watch while we weren't outside.

There is a good size BBQ pit on the porch that fit around 12 hamburger patties.

OVER ALL everyone had a great trip. Breckenridge is beautiful just 30 minutes away and you just park and walk shop to shop everyone is super friendly.

Thanks for allowing us to stay at your beautiful cabin JP

Great place, great location

  • 5 of 5

Spent a few nights here with my son and had a great time. Great location that feels more remote than it is. Was awesome to come back after a long day in the woods and relax by the wood stove. Great communication by JP.

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We were here for a week and the house was very warm and comfortable. A very spacious home nicely decorated and very functional. Would recommend the property to anyone planning to be in the FairPlay area. If the home is available on our next trip we will rebook again.
