Why The Owner chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

Sanibel is a tropical, natural, barrier island. Over 70% of the island is preserved as a national refuge. The weather always seems to be warm & sunny with gulf breezes keeping the palm trees swaying from the bay to the Gulf of Mexico. The island offers miles & miles of bike paths which for some is the sole mode of transportaton. It is a secret paradise for those who want to relax and return to a simpler life, if even for just a few days.

What makes this cottage unique

White caps #2 is one of only 9 ground level cottages situated right on the Gulf of Mexico. #2 offers you one of the world's best shelling beaches right at your doorstep. While you are here, you can visit the Ding Darling Nature Preserve, Bailey Matthews Shell Museum, Sanibel Historical Village, Big Arts, and CROW, the natural wildlife preservation on the island. Shopping and top rated restaurants are at your fingertips! Located on the West End of Sanibel you can also enjoy magnificent sunsets each evening which you cannot view when staying on the East End of the island.White Caps #2 has been completely remodelled for your lifestyle as we intended this to be our permanent home away from home & not a rental property. It wasn't until all our children returned with their children that we knew we had to move to larger quarters just a mile away, thus giving you the opportunity to enjoy all new appliances, granite countertops, beautiful boardwalk tile flooring, and high speed internet access. We chose to keep our little treasure and share it with all of our visitors who can find us right down the road!

Thank You

  • 5 of 5

We want to THANK YOU so very much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful place. The beach was great and all the shelling was unbelievable. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that I had to leave. 2 weeks were not enough 3 weeks next time.

The unit was very very clean not a sight of those famous bugs that are in FL.

The kitchen had everything you would need if you didn't want to eat at the many restarants. And the bed was extremely comfortable plenty of room for the 2 of us. The only thing I wish there was a more corfortable chair in the Living room but we suffered through it the view and closeness to the beach was worth it. I really want to come back again. Thanks again and I think you made a great purchase.

My husband and I stayed at your home for one week in mid-August 2012. Wow! Your cottage home is tastefully current in decor, fully furnished, super clean and comfortable. What more can anyone ask for? We loved the luxe amenities and proximity to the beach. The bed after a day of fun in the sun was sheer heaven. The customer service we received from you during booking was top notch and attentive. We really appreciate the attention you gave us throughout the whole process. We look forward to vacationing at your home in the near future. Thank you for the memories. We miss you Sanibel...til we meet again in the Summer of 2013. We'll be thinking of your lovely home and the beach during the cold winter months up North.

The perfect Sanibel Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet, restful place to stay in Sanibel this is it . This adorable bungalow is even better than I could have imagined. The location and the beautiful beach really exceeded my expectations. Decorated in pretty cottage chic, it is comfortable and clean without being too fussy. The bedroom looks like a page out of Pottery Barn and the kitchen is very well equipped. I cooked dinner most nights and everything I needed was there and then some! I loved the little deck at the front of the bungalow, perfect for a morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine before dinner!. There is a cute side area as well for grilling with chairs and a place to put your shells and wash off after the beach. There were also bikes provided for us as well as beach chairs and an umbrella ( we brought out own, but they are there if you need them) We also brought our own beach towels. My husband and I were looking for a place to relax at the beach and have some down time and I honestly have to say we really did have such a great time. I had so much fun shelling on the pretty, private beach. It was the perfect place to enjoy the sun and watch the dolphins, birds and the beautiful sunset. What also made it nice was the short walk back to the bungalow to have lunch or get a drink if you wanted. There is lots to do, a cute little cinema, lots of restaurants, shell museum, and the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. Or you can't go wrong just relaxing and enjoying the slow place of Sanibel which is what my husband and I did. I would probably recommend shopping at one of the Island supermarkets. We shopped at the Publix Supermarket before crossing the toll bridge thinking the markets on the Island would be expensive. They were not and both markets Jerry's or Bailey's were really good, you can't go wrong with either one of them. I would highly recommend this bungalow to anyone looking for a place to stay that wants a low key vacation with lots of peace and quiet. I know we can't wait to come back next year!

You can't beat the location!!

  • 3 of 5

We had the best weather possible for our vacation, but we were disappointed that the tiny condo afforded no view of the beach which was so close. (see listing)

WhiteCaps 2 is one of 8 tiny bungalows that are arranged perpendicular to the beach, old Florida amongst the condos. The location is ideal, step out of the cottage, walk a short way and you are on the sand looking for those wonderful Sanibel shells. The beach is gorgeous and pristine. WhiteCaps 2 has the advantage of being a few steps from the laundry facilities (the listing says W/D in unit, however they have been removed). It is perfect for two, albeit one of the smaller units on the property. The owners (or former owners) chose to expand the living area by removing the lanai. Therefore, there is no view of the beach or gulf from the cottage unless you are standing outside in the driveway or sitting on the tiny pavered entryway. In fact there are no windows at all on the beach side of the unit. I would not discourage anyone from renting WhiteCaps2, but be aware that the listing is a bit misleading.

Owner's Response: I had edited the listing and took out the washer/dryer. Sorry I guess I need to review it once more. It was an inefficient European machine which never worked properly & should not be sold in the US. White caps #2 is not the smallest unit. It is 525 sq foot compared to some that are 375 sq ft. You can see the Gulf of Mexico from the porch chairs. I supply two bikes complimentary & the unit is totally updated with new appliances & granite counter tops. I have not raised my rent in 5 years & think that those who come as my guests are getting a very good experience for the money they are spending.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the cottage. It is only steps to the beach which makes it very convenient to come back in from the beach for a snack or to get out of the sun. The kitchen is very well equipped. We loved blending frozen margaritas to take to the beach in the super cute plastic margarita glasses. There is access to 2 bicycles which is great since you are within biking distance of everything.

The listing above is not accurate however. There is no dryer/washer combo. You need to go to a utility building which is next door and use a coin laundry. I was really disappointed that I didn't know that ahead of time so I could have planned differently. Also, beach towels are mentioned above but there are no beach towels at all other than the regular bath towels provided. Considering there was no laundry, we really didn't want to bring the bath towels out to the beach. I wish that would have been more clear in the description since I would have easily brought my own beach towels. The cottage is cleaned and properly maintained. The furniture is not what I'd describe as comfortable and probably in need of some updating. However, for our family the location is most important and this cottage did not disappoint in that regard.

Owner's Response: I apologize for the lack of washer & dryer. I thought I had removed that from the listed amenities when I had to remove it from the cottage. It was a European model which never worked properly & since there is on sight laundry facilities, it was more trouble to continually have it repaired. As far as beach towels, you can request them from the agency. I used to provide my own linens including beach towels, but the cleaning service insists that they be done at their facility which has high temperature settings to make sure there are no residual effects from the last guest. For those who would like beach towels you may request them from the Royal Shell or simply bring your own...Better yet, buy one or two on the island & keep them for souvenirs!
