Can Elefant sits on Roche’s magical forest corner. This means peace and quiet, the smell of pines, views and direct access on to the forest, and the sound of owls and nightingales at night. All of this more than offsets the fact that you are further from the beach than most houses in Roche, but it is still only 1,200m! Can Elefant is ideal for friends or families with slightly older kids (the pool is not fenced and it is nice to be able to rent bikes to ride to the beach).
Large spaces welcome you as you enter, in a house that has been perfectly designed to take full advantage of the light and its privileged views across the forest. Walk through the front door and you find the bedroom wing on the right, a lovely fountain courtyard straight ahead, and to the left a seemingly endless view that takes in the sitting room, the main terrace, the pool, and the forest beyond, all on different levels. The whitewashed walls and high ceilings provide a fresh and airy feel, more akin to the Mediterranean in fact, and hence the house’s Mallorcan name (although we’re not quite sure where the Elephant bit comes from!) There is more than enough space for 6 people, both inside and out, with various terraces for enjoying at different times of the day: the main terrace for breakfast with the morning sun breaking through the pines, the side terrace for evening drinks, and the covered Moroccan terrace for dinner on cooler nights. The pool and pool area get the sun all day. But there are also plenty of shady areas in what is colourful and extremely well-kept garden.
Accommodation is on one floor, but the house occupies three levels, making full use of the lie of the land, so as to enjoy the forest views from as many angles as possible. The main bedroom has its bathroom en suite, and opens directly on to the fountain courtyard and the morning sun. The two other twin bedrooms (one of which can be converted into a double) share a bathroom. The entrance hall/dining room connects the bedroom wing with the main living area, and has a good-size dining table next to the glass doors that open on to the fountain terrace. This makes for an ideal corner in the cooler months, as it gets load of sun and is well protected from any wind. The sitting room is on a lower level, and offers a large space, with comfortable sofas and chairs, colourful modern art, and a cozy open fire for cooler evenings. The house also has underfloor heating throughout. Next to the sitting room are the kitchen, and then a separate utility room. These have all the mod cons you will need. Both the kitchen and the sitting room open on to the main covered terrace, where there are large comfy sofas and views over the pool area and the forest.
