|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This is a luxurious cottage with pool about a 1.5 hour drive from Charlottesville on a 300 acre farm in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Perfect for a romantic weekend or family getaway.
Cost is $250 a night plus vrbo service fee. During the summer, minimum stay is 5 nights. Other times minimum stay is 2 nights..
The cottage consists of a huge window-filled kitchen/dining/living area, made with the finest materials. The hardwood floors are spectacular rustic oak. The kitchen has the latest appliances and wonderful red granite countertops. The living area has a gas fireplace with HDTV and DirecTV, and a comfortable queen-sized sofa bed.
It also includes a bedroom with fireplace, big-screen TV and king-size bed with memory foam mattress.
The cottage sits alone in its own valley, and the farm has spectacular hills, meadows, and woods. It features soaring views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with over a mile of border with the beautiful George Washington National Forest.
Privacy and intimacy go along with the gorgeous landscape. You will be the only people on the farm. From the entire farm, no other houses are visible, despite the stunning views of 20 miles or more. Dozens of deer make their home on the farm and snack on the apple trees around the cottage. In summer there are cows munching away on the grass.
Recreational Equipment: The fishing pond (stocked with catfish, bass and perch) has a paddle boat. Fishing rods available. There is a golf cart and four mountain bikes. There are three kayaks for use on the nearby Cow Pasture River. The kayaks are a short 8' long, so they fit in most cars. Plus there are car racks available.
There's a pool right outside your door, via a rather whimsical bridge from the deck to a jumping platform. Do you dare?
To give you an idea of how large 300 acres is, it would take you about an hour to walk to the back of the farm. We gladly accept pets. The farm has always had pets, and they love it there.
The bathroom has marble floors, ceramic tiles, and a jetted tub with a view of the wilderness. The two-sided deck allows you to sip your morning coffee while looking out over the valley, watching the mist roll through.
Sleeping accommodations consist of the king-sized bed in the bedroom, a queen-sized sofa-bed, a self-inflating queen airbed, and three self-inflating twin airbeds (all 22' high), so you can mix and match as needed.
Wander the farm to your heart's delight. Swim to your hearts content. Fish in the pond. Check out a nearby river swimming hole right out of Tom Sawyer. Careen about on the mountain bikes or the golf cart. Go kayaking!

I grew up on the farm. My dad bought it from the Bright family, who homesteaded it about 150 years ago.
A wonderful secluded location with a lot of land to explore and a lot to offer!
This is a very quaint and lovely cottage. Owners did not skimp on amenities. The only problems we had were there were no matches and the one lighter didn't work. The fireplace in the living room wouldn't start--probably needed batteries, there was no bath soap (the instructions told us we only needed to bring food--everything else was provided), and we had to hunt for our pillows. These problems did not interfere with our complete enjoyment of our stay. We will definitely return!
Loved the place. Loved the pool. Loved the property. Definitely plan to make it back someday.
Fourth trip to the farm, weather was cool and wet for the season but as usual the setting was awe inspiring and restful. Hiking the farm, reading and trips down the beautiful winding roads of Bath County provided great chance of pace for us. Looking forward to a return trip in early fall.
We chose this property for its relative isolation and large acreage and we were not disappointed. It was just perfect. We arrived mid day on December 23rd in a sort of foggy drizzle. The lovely little house was beautifully decorated for the season and was so welcoming. It was so quite and still and exactly what we were looking for. The house, though small, is extremely well appointed and we loved all the windows. You get a perfect view out of every single one! The owner hasn't missed much to ensure that guests are comfortable. We had several days of wet but warm weather so were able to explore the hills without having to bundle up. Unfortunately the golf cart was out of commission, but the owner made arrangements for us to have a 4x4 truck in it's place, so we could drive to the pond at the back of the property which is a good distance. When the weather turned a bit colder, the gas fireplace in the bedroom became a favorite spot for us. It was heaven waking up to sunlight streaming in the windows, frost sparkling on the hills , a toasty fire and a cup of coffee! The bed is heaven, and because it's so quiet and dark we slept really well - didn't miss those city noises at all! We totally decompressed! We explored the area some. Visited the Omni Homestead a few times, and tried the Jefferson Pools, ventured out to Lexington and Charlottesville, but mostly we just enjoyed the house and the land. On New Year's Eve we built a fire in the pit and watched the stars come out. It was really special. All in all the 2 and 1/2 weeks went way too quickly. Next time, we will definitely stay longer. This review wouldn't be complete without a mention of the wonderful property caretaker Essie and her family. They took good care of us and made us feel so welcome.
My wife and two dogs spent a long weekend here and absolutely loved this place. The dogs got to run free and to their hearts content. We took a ride out to the pond and took a great hike around the property enjoying the fall foliage. If you're looking for a place to relax and check out from the daily grind, this is the place! Essie was awesome too and made sure we were prepared for our stay! We can't wait to come back for a longer stay.
