Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This is a luxurious cottage with pool about a 1.5 hour drive from Charlottesville on a 300 acre farm in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Perfect for a romantic weekend or family getaway.

Cost is $225 a night plus vrbo service fee. Minimum stay is 2 nights.

The cottage consists of a huge window-filled kitchen/dining/living area, made with the finest materials. The hardwood floors are spectacular rustic oak. The kitchen has the latest appliances and wonderful red granite countertops. The living area has a gas fireplace with HDTV and DirecTV, and a comfortable queen-sized sofa bed.

It also includes a bedroom with fireplace, big-screen TV and king-size bed with memory foam mattress.

The cottage sits alone in its own valley, and the farm has spectacular hills, meadows, and woods. It features soaring views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with over a mile of border with the beautiful George Washington National Forest.

Privacy and intimacy go along with the gorgeous landscape. You will be the only people on the farm. From the entire farm, no other houses are visible, despite the stunning views of 20 miles or more. Dozens of deer make their home on the farm and snack on the apple trees around the cottage. In summer there are cows munching away on the grass.

Recreational Equipment: The fishing pond (stocked with catfish, bass and perch) has a paddle boat. Fishing rods available. There is a golf cart and four mountain bikes. There are three kayaks for use on the nearby Cow Pasture River. The kayaks are a short 8' long, so they fit in most cars. Plus there are car racks available.

There's a pool right outside your door, via a rather whimsical bridge from the deck to a jumping platform. Do you dare?

To give you an idea of how large 300 acres is, it would take you about an hour to walk to the back of the farm. We gladly accept pets. The farm has always had pets, and they love it there.

The bathroom has marble floors, ceramic tiles, and a jetted tub with a view of the wilderness. The two-sided deck allows you to sip your morning coffee while looking out over the valley, watching the mist roll through.

Sleeping accommodations consist of the king-sized bed in the bedroom, a queen-sized sofa-bed, a self-inflating queen airbed, and three self-inflating twin airbeds (all 22' high), so you can mix and match as needed.

Wander the farm to your heart's delight. Swim to your hearts content. Fish in the pond. Check out a nearby river swimming hole right out of Tom Sawyer. Careen about on the mountain bikes or the golf cart. Go kayaking!

Always the best! LOVE THIS PLACE..

  • 5 of 5

We miss "Ellen's Cottage" when we don't go see it for a few months. This is one of the most unforgettable places. Beautiful scenery. Peace and quiet. Swam in the pool. Grilled by the pool. Hiked - golf carted - romped. Fabulous.

Amazing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. The kids loved swimming. The family's favorite activity was fishing on the pond. The porch was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. The cottage was clean and beautiful! Thank you for a wonderful vacation! We can't wait to come back again!

Amazing property, amazing views, perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent three amazing days in the cottage. Fortunately, we had great weather and enjoyed the pool and property trails during the day - and roasting s'mores by the fire at night. The property is very clean and well-kept. We will be going back for another getaway in the future.

The cottage was very clean and accomodating. The pool with diving platfom was enjoyed thoroughly!

As we arrived, we found the cottage and property to be exactly what we were hoping for. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the caretaker, Essie, who is incredibly helpful and an absolute joy to introduce us to the property and various options of things to enjoy during our stay. We explored the farm using the golf cart provided as well as drove to the various swimming holes and trails. The cottage and farm was exactly the kind of secluded getaway my wife, two dogs and I needed.

The owner and host, Jim, was very accomodating and quick to respond as we had decided before the trip to extend our stay from two days to three. The host had seemed to think of everything to provide for guests.

This will go down as probably our favorite little weekend getaway as to date and look forward to returning to enjoy all the other attractions that we were not able to get to on this trip. We highly recommend this place and host!

This place has it all to unplug. HIGHLY recommend for someone wanting to experience the Shenandoah Valley in a bucolic setting. Will revisit this property again!

Fun, relaxed vacation for the whole family including our 2 dogs!

  • 5 of 5

Jim was quick to reply and answered all of our questions prior to booking. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage and exploring the farm proper. The golf cart was employed each day giving the dogs a run for their money and our daughter some fun driving lessons! We used the paddle boat in the pond and took out one of the kayaks on the river down the road.

The cottage was clean and well appointed. They aren't kidding about just bringing your food. There was every kind of coffee maker you could want. I was particularly excited to find and use the rice cooker! We settled in very easily with Essie's help and as we were leaving at the end of the trip my daughter said "When we come next year..." No better endorsement than that!
