Our cabin is located between Robbinsville and Bryson City. It's secluded, easy to get to, has a beautiful view... a 10 out of 10.., and offers you close proximity to the national park, Appalachian Trail, and other marvels of nature. This area is great, because you do not have to drive forever to get to mountain highlights; it's all close by. Bill is a retired engineer, and I'm a retired teacher. We now live in the Smokies as much as we can. We love hikes, whitewater, growing crops, and all sorts of travel.

We are in the middle of Mother Nature but close enough to the things we need to make life easy. We can just walk out the door and explore, hike, pick berries, etc. It's great!
My husband and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon (actually in Aug 2014, I just now am writing my review!). We absolutely loved it and had a fantastic time hiking and exploring the area. So many things to do. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and we were able to get groceries nearby and make our own meals easily. Our interactions with Bill & Melanie were great, they are very easy to work with. We hope to be back again, thank you!
Our family has really fallen in love with the GSM region and this trip down made us fall even deeper in love.
Upon our arrival we walked in and instantly felt at home. The home is beautifully decorated and clearly well taken care of. The views are breathtaking!
One of the best features was the "bible" of things to see and do around the area, so many things to do. We would not have found the little towns like Dillsboro, a town that IS the definition of southern hospitality and their quaint little shops, or known to use Paddle Inn for rafting where they pray with you for a safe journey before each trip, if Melanie had not provided such details, thank you!!
We cannot wait to come back again, we still have so much to see and do.
It was a blessing to be able to stay in your home.
Anyone who's vacationed in the Great Smoky Mountains knows its charms: the vistas, the scenery, the tranquility, and the boundless opportunities for fun and adventure. Melanie's charming cabin provides the absolutely perfect home base for a GSM vacation, it's like the cherry on top of a really great ice cream sundae! The views from the home are beautiful, and the cabin itself is spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. There was plenty of room for all of us, including two messy teenagers. The location of the cabin is ideal; we spent a lot of time in Bryson City, where we hiked, whitewater rafted, and just enjoyed hanging out in town. GSM National Park is an easy drive away, and we took full advantage of the great location for some great hikes and scenic drives. It was a restful and fun vacation, and Melanie was a pure joy to deal with through the entire process. What a sweet lady! We will definitely be return guests!
This cabin is NOT as advertised! By the owners own admission, she advertised one cabin and placed me in another, BUT this one was up a dangerous, curvy, narrow and extremely steep gravel road with an almost impossible driveway you have to navigate to get in. The deck and views from this 2nd cabin are 90% blocked by trees. The interior is has a similar decor, but different furniture, but the cabin pictured is NOT the cabin you get.
The owner was very uncommunicative, she did not answer my original email and it took me 3 separate emails to finally get the address from her AFTER I made my payment. The owner claims there were so many people wanting this cabin that she required me to overnight a second set of checks as she would not wait for my original checks to arrive, which did so on the same day after I mailed duplicates. Meanwhile, there was NO record of any bookings on the site.
The kitchen was overrun with hundreds of tiny ants, and the bathroom with large black ants, which we battled constantly. The deck was filthy, the tables and chairs were full of mold, the birdhouse in the corner peeling and falling apart and the BBQ so crusted it was unusable.
In the bathrooms, the towels were ragged, there were no bath mats, no soap, no shampoo or any other toiletries. The kitchen had no garbage bags, no paper towels, no soup bowls, no spices (even salt) and NO LIGHT. This is a very dark cabin, absolutely no sunlight gets inside (it’s just surrounded by trees) and no bulb is above 40 watts in the entire cabin.
Each day something else popped up that just got us so frustrated; missing drawer knobs, dryer door that can’t be opened all the way, a shower head that just sends out a mist, etc. And finally the 100-pound tube TV gets almost NO programming (not even the basic 3 channels) and went out completely whenever it rained.
When I requested compensation for placing us in a different cabin she just used profanities against me in her emails and said she would not refund me a cent and just told me to go to hell.
FIND A BETTER PLACE TO STAY, this one is stuck in the 60's and needs a lot of work. If you don’t have an SUV or larger, you may not even make it up the very steep hill to get there in the first place! The owners attitude is just downright nasty and foul-mouthed and extremely unprofessional. To date, she has not even answered my complaint and simply disregards my emails.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mountain Vista. You will find everything you need, including a magical view from the deck. The only problem was our stay was too short. Melanie has compiled an amazing book of nearby activities that would keep you busy for a month or longer. Awesome vacation!
I didn't want for a thing! Peaceful ! Clean!
