Inside ... Soft, leather recliners gathered around an inviting wood-burning hearthstone fireplace. Gorgeous gourmet kitchen equipped with everything you'll need to cook amazing meals. Bedrooms with cozy duvets and luxury linens. Beautifully appointed bathrooms. Large 42 inch HD LED TV with lots of great movies, games, puzzles and a pool table. Warm hardwood floors, high end finishes and more!

Step outside to a large covered patio, complete with dining table, Weber BBQ and deluxe jetted spa. Walk a few steps further, and enjoy an outdoor firepit to roast marshmallows, swap stories and sing songs under starry skies. All in the safety of Snowline, Mt. Baker's most sought after community.

Things to do: The Shuskan is nestled in the safe and private gated community of Snowline, which offers something for the whole family to enjoy: basketball, swimming, tennis, spectacular hiking trails and views, and much more. Snowline is located just 25 minutes from the Mt Baker Ski Area and is the closest lodging to the lifts available. Ideal for any time of the year.

The Mount Baker and North Fork Nooksack River area is unsurpassed in its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan (said to be the most photographed mountain in the world!) lie at the headwaters of the Nooksack River watershed in northwest Washington State.

SPRING & SUMMER: Springtime is the time to enjoy:

- Backcountry treks on snowshoes and touring skis;

- Spring skiing and snowboarding in warm sunshine;

- Foraging for mushrooms,fiddlehead ferns, wild strawberries, thimbleberries, and salmonberries;

- Searching the shady forest for delicate flowering plants such as trilliums and bleeding hearts;

- Canoeing and fishing at Silver Lake when the season opens in April.

By mid-summer, the Heather Meadows Recreation Area is clear of snow and the road opens to Artist’s Point and the Austin Pass picnic area, offering spectacular views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, and surrounding peaks. Moonrises at dusk, the luminous heavens, and August meteor showers create magnificent evenings and unforgettable experiences.

With over 100 miles of maintained trails and many Forest Service roads in the region, there are diverse backpacking, fly fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, climbing, hiking, and sightseeing opportunities for all ages and levels.

FALL & WINTER: By the second week of September the high country is aglow with the golds of mountain ash and the fiery reds and oranges from the leaves of blueberries and huckleberries. Summer activities carry over into fall and are joined by hunting and berry picking; a trip to the meadows at this time of year will provide sweet berries to nibble on during a trek or to take home for making pancakes, jams and pies. By late September and into October, the big leaf maples and cottonwoods in the lower North Fork valley are at their peak in color, making this an ideal time to enjoy a fall drive. Sometime in late October or early November, snow begins accumulating again in the higher elevations and a serene silence descends on the mountains.

By late November, winter has arrived. In addition to visiting the ski area, there are other wintertime activities to consider. These include snowshoeing and ski touring; snowmobiling; hikes along the river and its tributaries; eagle-watching; steelheading and more.

About Susan & Murray

We're two families from Vancouver, BC who love to spend time making memories with family and friends. We were looking for a vacation property that would be an ideal getaway for couples, kids, and family reunions, an easy drive from Vancouver and Seattle. The Shuksan and the Snowline Community has it all!

Susan & Murray purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Susan & Murray chose Washington

The Shuksan is the perfect cabin in a gorgeous setting.

It's an easy drive from Vancouver and Seattle, including easy access for those flying in to YVR, SEA or Bellingham. Driving in to Glacier you'll feel the stress of your everyday life fade away. When pulling up to the Shuksan you'll know a luxury stay and relaxation is just seconds away.

We've been coming to the Mt. Baker area off and on for many years. Simply put, it's an outdoor recreation mecca, without the high prices found in many resorts. You'll love all it has to offer.

And after a wonderful day in the great outdoors, enjoy a great meal in the cabin, or venture out to the nearby towns for some amazing food. There's some great restaurants nearby, all are detailed in the cabin literature.

What makes this cabin unique

The Shuksan features a private campfire area, the perfect spot to end the evening at. Gaze at the stars, tell stories, reminisce, and even remember the great taste of S'mores. Marshmallow roasting sticks included.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Smith family enjoyed a wonderful stay! We hiked, swam, hot tubbed, watched movies, roasted s'mores, and explored the back area. The Dads conquered Baker and we all had a great time!

Wish we could have stayed longer !

  • 5 of 5

My husband, sister, brother and brother-in-law spent a couple of days at this wonderful home in September. It was delightful. It was beautifully furnished, warm, cozy and had all the amenities you would need or want. It's one of those homes that is exactly as described. We would have loved to stay longer and explore the Mt Baker region more, as this home is perfectly located, but we will definitely be back ! Many thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely home with us.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Loved the proximity to Mt Shuksan hikes and vantage points. The Snowline community was very convenient. Our grandkids enjoyed the pool and playground. The cabin was clean and well-appointed with a nice upstairs great room. The driveway was extremely challenging even with a 4 wheel drive but doable. Nice setting otherwise with great outdoor spaces.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! I'm sorry you found the driveway challenging for your vehicle. Although it is steep, we've never received that feedback before, I wish it hadn't affected your enjoyment. I know in the winter in can be slippery which is why a heating system was installed in it to keep the snow and ice clear. I often let people know that parking at the bottom in the cleared area beside the driveway is also an option. I hope you're able to visit again!

Great Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was comfy and clean with a well equipped, big kitchen and nice linens. We enjoyed the outdoor amenities, especially the fire pit. The electronics - tv and DVD player, were not functioning for us which was a disappointment as was the lack of Internet connection. Great stay for folks wanting to totally "unplug" though.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback and our apologies for the electronics. We've now replaced the modem and the Internet connection has been restored, and fingers crossed will be stable now. As for the tv and dvd, upon inspection it appears prior renters switched the cabling around, therefore requiring different inputs to be selected on the tv and PS3 to watch a movie. We do hope you'll choose to return to The Shuksan for another stay in the gorgeous Mt. Baker area!

WOW What An Amazing Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cabin in the middle of February 2016! Clearly the owners take personal pride in their place and have spent a lot of time and money on making the cabin comfortable and beautiful. I feel privileged to have enjoyed sharing their treasured home away from home. Thank you Murray and family owners! We will be back soon.

Huge success!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this spot out for a gathering of long time friends and it was perfect. Amazing location close to some great hiking. The cabin itself was beautiful and clean with more space than the photos (which are great) give it credit. Will definitely look at staying here again sometime!
