Things to do: The Shuskan is nestled in the safe and private gated community of Snowline, which offers something for the whole family to enjoy: basketball, swimming, tennis, spectacular hiking trails and views, and much more. Snowline is located just 25 minutes from the Mt Baker Ski Area and is the closest lodging to the lifts available. Ideal for any time of the year.

The Mount Baker and North Fork Nooksack River area is unsurpassed in its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan (said to be the most photographed mountain in the world!) lie at the headwaters of the Nooksack River watershed in northwest Washington State.

SPRING & SUMMER: Springtime is the time to enjoy:

- Backcountry treks on snowshoes and touring skis;

- Spring skiing and snowboarding in warm sunshine;

- Foraging for mushrooms,fiddlehead ferns, wild strawberries, thimbleberries, and salmonberries;

- Searching the shady forest for delicate flowering plants such as trilliums and bleeding hearts;

- Canoeing and fishing at Silver Lake when the season opens in April.

By mid-summer, the Heather Meadows Recreation Area is clear of snow and the road opens to Artist’s Point and the Austin Pass picnic area, offering spectacular views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, and surrounding peaks. Moonrises at dusk, the luminous heavens, and August meteor showers create magnificent evenings and unforgettable experiences.

With over 100 miles of maintained trails and many Forest Service roads in the region, there are diverse backpacking, fly fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, climbing, hiking, and sightseeing opportunities for all ages and levels.

FALL & WINTER: By the second week of September the high country is aglow with the golds of mountain ash and the fiery reds and oranges from the leaves of blueberries and huckleberries. Summer activities carry over into fall and are joined by hunting and berry picking; a trip to the meadows at this time of year will provide sweet berries to nibble on during a trek or to take home for making pancakes, jams and pies. By late September and into October, the big leaf maples and cottonwoods in the lower North Fork valley are at their peak in color, making this an ideal time to enjoy a fall drive. Sometime in late October or early November, snow begins accumulating again in the higher elevations and a serene silence descends on the mountains.

By late November, winter has arrived. In addition to visiting the ski area, there are other wintertime activities to consider. These include snowshoeing and ski touring; snowmobiling; hikes along the river and its tributaries; eagle-watching; steelheading and more.

About Susan & Murray

We're two families from Vancouver, BC who love to spend time making memories with family and friends. We were looking for a vacation property that would be an ideal getaway for couples, kids, and family reunions, an easy drive from Vancouver and Seattle. The Shuksan and the Snowline Community has it all!

Susan & Murray purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Susan & Murray chose Mount Baker

The Shuksan is the perfect cabin in a gorgeous setting.

It's an easy drive from Vancouver and Seattle, including easy access for those flying in to YVR, SEA or Bellingham. Driving in to Glacier you'll feel the stress of your everyday life fade away. When pulling up to the Shuksan you'll know a luxury stay and relaxation is just seconds away.

We've been coming to the Mt. Baker area off and on for many years. Simply put, it's an outdoor recreation mecca, without the high prices found in many resorts. You'll love all it has to offer.

And after a wonderful day in the great outdoors, enjoy a great meal in the cabin, or venture out to the nearby towns for some amazing food. There's some great restaurants nearby, all are detailed in the cabin literature.

What makes this cabin unique

The Shuksan features a private campfire area, the perfect spot to end the evening at. Gaze at the stars, tell stories, reminisce, and even remember the great taste of S'mores. Marshmallow roasting sticks included.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Smith family enjoyed a wonderful stay! We hiked, swam, hot tubbed, watched movies, roasted s'mores, and explored the back area. The Dads conquered Baker and we all had a great time!

Perfect cabin for a ski trip

  • 5 of 5

The Shuksan is a great place to stay close to Mt Baker. We really enjoyed the cabin and it had everything we needed. Fully stocked kitchen, hot tub, barbecue, and so much more. It really has a cute cabin feel to it. I would definitely stay here again.

Couldn't have asked for a better cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin has everything you need for a great time, except for an aux cord that hooks up to the stereo. The only way we could hook up our music to the stereo is with an old ipod dock, which we didn't have. An aux cord would have been the cherry on top.

ASIDE FROM THAT ONE SMALL DETAIL...the cabin is amazing. Set up perfectly for a couple families or a few couples. The fire pit with a nearly infinite stash of wood, the covered patio in the back with the hot tub, the kitchen has everything you need, the beds are comfy, the front deck is nice, the community amenities are nice. Be sure to bring your own shampoo, soap, and conditioner, though. I believe there was only a few bars of soap. All in all, it's a solid cabin.

Pro tip - Go hiking while you're in the area. Whether it's the really convenient trail that's a 2 minute walk from the driveway that takes you along the river or some of the more robust peaks that you can find further down the highway. It's an incredible spot for hiking in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months.

Would definitely come back. Thank you!

Clean and beautiful. A great place to relax.

  • 5 of 5

We had it as a couple for a few nights and then had friends join us. It was great for a cozy romantic stay and big enough to host dinner and drinks for a group. Loved it and will be coming back.

Warm, Cozy, Comfortable Cabin.

  • 4 of 5

We had 4 adults and 1 child in our party. We enjoyed our weekend stay. Cabin was warm, cozy, and very comfortable. Mt. Baker ski resort was easily accessible (20 minute drive - weather and road conditions clear). Nearby restaurants in Glacier made it relaxing after a long day of skiing.

Cabin has a PS3 and plenty of video games to play and DVD's to watch at night. Indeed it is a "dead" zone for all cellular service (all carriers), however we were able to connect via phone over the WI FI system offered at cabin, so no worries if you needed phone access.

Beds were very comfortable and linens plush. We all slept very well. Plenty of hot water for showers and baths. Although we didn't use the outside hot tub, it was at a perfect temperature of 104 and looked welcoming. It is covered, so even if it was raining or snowing, you can still use. Game room downstairs with pool table, darts, and other games entertained the child and some of the adults!

Excellent experience

  • 5 of 5

Such a good experience at this place!

Me and my life long friends have a tradition of getting away together for one special weekend once a year. The weekend usually consists of hunkering down the whole time in whichever place we rent as we all catch up - so the place has to be good!

Happy to say we were so pleased with this spot we'll be returning again for a second year in a row (by unanimous vote!).

It's a cared for home and everything has been thought of - kitchen is well stocked, beds are comfortable, hot tub was hot and clean and the yard/fire pit area is secluded and beautiful with a view of the mountains.

Lastly, Murray was very helpful and personable for the duration of our planning and stay.
