We had a wonderful week in this beautiful house. The garden is very nice too, and the pool i perfect and large. The service is very good, the house is clean and restaurants both in walking distance and a short drive.
Fabulous On Lake Maggiore
This property exceeded our expectations in many ways. Great rooms to meet or to find seclusion. Bedrooms and bathrooms were generous and well appointed. Period antiques make this location so charming.
Dennis went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. This was a family trip for 11 people and we never felt crowded or uncomfortable.
Marella was wonderful during all of our communications and made the experience easy to enjoy.
Thank you so much!
Hear such beautiful words fill me with joy!

STUNNING authenic Italian villa and experience!!!
Villa Ortensia was absolutely perfect. A spectacular, historic villa and a short walk down to a charming little town. We loved Calde's Polenta Festival, a fun communal dinner with live music.
The villa was immaculate, beautifully decorated in Italian style, and extremely well appointed with everything one could possibly require. Serenity and privacy, in lovely impeccably manicured gardens and grounds (with a groundskeeper, robot lawnmower and fresh figs off the tree), The villa includes a pristine pool with mountain and lake views, change/shower room and lots of comfy chairs to sit and enjoy.
The location while quiet, is very convenient, a few minutes to the town of Laveno where we started our private guided boat tour of the Borommeo Islands, a short drive to Lake Como, Stressa or Varese, an easy train ride up to the local market at Luino.
Marella the owner, was very responsive and helpful with the booking. Dennis and Laurie are on site in a separate home, and were caring, kind and available to assist us with as required.
We are frequent travellers, our stay at Villa Ortensia was an experience of a lifetime and I highly recommend this villa!
Thank you so much Aileen!
I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the house and the location!

Caldè is one of the eleven hamlets of the municipality of Castelveccana, located 8 km from Laveno and 12 km from Luino. It has a picturesque harbor and is famous for the "Fish Festival" the first of August, for the "risottissimo with mushrooms" in September, for the feasts of attendants, the sportsmen and for the annual sailing and rowing races that are disputed in the Gulf. The town is enlivened by the local with interesting initiatives. Theatre of the main events is the cozy little square of Caldè, whose small village is called the "Portofino of Lake Maggiore".
Though now in ruins, it is worth visiting the Rocca, accessible only on foot and it is the most recognizable symbol of Castelveccana, on top of which on a clear day you can see a magnificent panorama. At the bottom of the Rock, built overlooking the lake is the thirteenth-century church of Santa Veronica that houses inside the recently restored frescoes.
On the territory, also, there are some interesting sacred buildings dating from the XI and XII: the parish church of San Pietro, the Hermitage of San Antonio, the Romanesque church of San Giorgio in the hamlet Sarigo, and the bell tower of San Martino.
