Maui Condo Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom condo with pull-out in living room. Sleeps max 4 adults.

Hawaii Tax ID: W01836408-01. Located along Hana Highway at Kuau Plaza condominium on Maui's North Shore this unit is just steps from Kuau Cove and world Famous Mama's Fish House Restaurant. It is a 3rd floor unit and offers partial ocean view off the lanai/living room and gorgeous views of Haleakala and surrounding sugarcane fields out the back door.

Situated a 1-2 minute walk to the sandy cove/beach. A small reef 20 yards off-shore protects the shoreline from heavy surge making a nice 'tide pool' type beach...great for a short, calm swim.

One minute drive west to historic Paia Town with shops, restaurants, art galleries, etc. One minute drive east to Ho'okipa Beach Park with the most consistent windsurfing and surfing on Maui. Central location and generally year-round great weather make this a fantastic value.

Note: Washer/Dryer are shared with other tenants in the building.

Property was clean and well-maintained. Short walk to a very nice and quiet beach. Great location for exploring north Maui.

We had a great time. The condo was comfortable and lots of room. It was conveniently located for us. Loved the fact that we could walk to Mama's Fish House.

When we had problems with the blinds in the living room and ceiling fan, Josh was there to fix it. We are pleased about that. Our ti,e there was April 5-13 2016.

Would come back again.

Our family's first vacation to Maui was a great experience as we stayed in Kuau in order to explore the beaches of northern Maui & the Hana Highway drive to Hana Bay Beach, while also being close enough to drive to southern & western Maui for the "real beach" experience. It was very cool for our kids to see all the surfing, wind surfing/boarding, paraboarding/surfing, etc. of northern Maui, particularly at Ho'okipa Beach. We knew from the beach descriptions before booking our trip that we would not be able to swim in the northern beaches, but we enjoyed the sunsets greatly at Baldwin Beach and near Kuau Cove, plus we even got to see 5 large sea turtles one day at Ho'okipa Beach. Although our family greatly enjoyed the food & culture of northern Maui in Paia, we better enjoyed the southern beaches of Big Beach, One'uli Black Sand Beach, Wailea Beach, & Kama'loe Beach Park I, as well as Ka'anapali Beach of western Maui. We enjoyed central Maui's Ma’alaia Harbor & Maui Ocean Center, too.

Baldwin Beach, Kuau Cove, and Ho'okipa Beach were recommended for northern Maui sunsets & local recommendations for Paia were also appreciated. However, from Paia, the one-way drive to Hana was 4 hours, not 2 hours (as recommended), making the round trip 8 hours, not 4 hours. Good thing our family started the drive to Hana early in the morning, as the drive back would have been much more grueling in the dark with the extensive one-way bridges & sharp turns. The best beaches for our young kids were Kama'loe Beach Park I in southern Maui & Ka'anapali Beach in western Maui. We loved our Maui experience & used the condo only as a place to crash. However, even with that said, we would gladly pay more for a nicer place to sleep during our next trip. We did not find the conditions clean (molded coffee grounds, bugs in the kitchen & bathroom, bathtub mildew, & floors/surfaces/windows with dust/grime build-up) or cared for (many broken blinds, shower water took an hour to drain, burned out lightbulbs, & matted/tattered rugs). Even a low price-point condo, to entice travelers with low expectations & a budget, should be better cleaned & maintenanced. If this condo had been clean & well-maintained, we would have been happy with our accommodations for this trip, as well as for future trips. Thank you for the location, but we'll look for a different place in northern Maui for our next trip.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback. Specific responses: - Coffee grounds left in maker: I've brought this to the attention of the cleaners and apologize for this. Checking will be a regular part of the cleaning. - Bugs: The unit is regularly sprayed for bugs. However, we try to do it as little as possible for health reasons. The unit is 25 feet away from active agriculture/sugarcane fields and we are in the tropics. There can be bugs. It comes with the destination, but we try our best to keep them at bay. Mildew: The tub is being replaced this summer. The unit was thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival. There are permanent stains on the tub, which is why we are replacing it. Drain: there is a very specific way to unplug the drain. We apologize if you had trouble with this. I check it regularly. The building was built in 1970 and the pipes are old. No excuse, just an explanation. Rugs: I checked and don't see any tattered or matted rugs?? Bulbs: Thank you for letting us know. We keep replacements in the unit. If a guest let's us know we will advise where we keep them or come by and replace them ourselves. Aloha

Convenient to Hana and Haleakala

  • 4 of 5

Perfect for an affordable place close to the road to Hana and Mt. Haleakala. Right next door to Mama's fish house and an awesome small beach that has amazing tide pools in the morning. Only downside was that the place smelled like cigarettes which the owner said came from downstairs, there's no AC, and shampoo/conditioner/bug spray was concealed so we ended buying it, only to realize later that they did have it. It is located on the highway so if you are a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. Also, super hefty cleaning fee with this place.

Roughing It

  • 2 of 5

While we weren't expecting four-star hotel accommodations for the price of this budget condo listing and welcomed a bohemian vibe during our stay in Paia - we were uncomfortable with the conditions. The large condo building is right on the main highway and the freeway noise kept us up at night - as well as the parking lot noise (partiers, men arguing loudly) this aspect of the listing is not clear from the pictures. The shower was weak & handheld shower sprayer was wobbly making showering after a long day at the beach a challenge. Bed was very soft & sheets didn't really fit, foldaway bed was "crumbly" when we opened it & needed to be vacuumed or something - we didn't feel comfortable using it, there were also someone's dirty clothes left in one of the bedroom drawers. Place felt "wiped down" but not very clean. Probably the worst thing was that there was a constant cigarette odor day & night. I've never written a negative review like this before but wished I'd known these issues before booking this condo for three nights. Property has lots of potential & owner is very responsive & nice. Hoping this helps others with their decision making process.

Owner's Response: We appreciate this feedback. For updates and clarification purposes please consider the following: - Hana Highway is a two lane road with no street lights, stop lights, etc. It is not a "freeway". There is a lot of traffic on this road. It can be heard from the bedroom when the windows are opened, but not from the living room/lanai area. - This area is mostly full-time residents. It is not as controlled as the resort areas, which is part of the appeal. Most neighbors are polite and respectful. In a condominium living situation however we cannot control the actions of everyone in the building and are sorry you experienced party noise or arguments. - We will be replacing the shower/tub this summer. - Just purchased a new bed frame (we found out the old one had bucked making the bed sink in the middle) and brand new Egyptian cotton sheets. - Will definitely talk to the cleaners about checking on the fold-out couch. - There is a person that lives two floors below the unit who smokes cigarettes. It can waft up to our unit depending on the winds.

We had a great time, if we are in maui again we would love to stay here again. Great little store nearby and Mama's Fish House ( an amazing restaurant that lives up to the hype) is literally a stone's throw.
