Overview

About the property

1 bedroom condo with pull-out in living room. Sleeps max 4 adults.

Hawaii Tax ID: W01836408-01. Located along Hana Highway at Kuau Plaza condominium on Maui's North Shore this unit is just steps from Kuau Cove and world Famous Mama's Fish House Restaurant. It is a 3rd floor unit and offers partial ocean view off the lanai/living room and gorgeous views of Haleakala and surrounding sugarcane fields out the back door.

Situated a 1-2 minute walk to the sandy cove/beach. A small reef 20 yards off-shore protects the shoreline from heavy surge making a nice 'tide pool' type beach...great for a short, calm swim.

One minute drive west to historic Paia Town with shops, restaurants, art galleries, etc. One minute drive east to Ho'okipa Beach Park with the most consistent windsurfing and surfing on Maui. Central location and generally year-round great weather make this a fantastic value.

Note: Washer/Dryer are shared with other tenants in the building.

Fine—but not worth what we paid.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed Pa‘ia and the condo had a wonderful breeze coming down off Haleakalā. The owner was very responsive via messaging in the HomeAway app, and we appreciated that. Note that the Pa‘ia shops are not quite within walking distance—about a mile away. The condo is old and, while organized, could be cleaner. For example, the popcorn ceilings around the fans were covered in dust, leaving the normally white ceiling looking dark grey. Were were sort of bummed when we arrived after considering how much we paid for it; the price made us expect more than middle-of-the-road accommodations.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and honest input. Not sure how to clean that "popcorn" ceiling. Just a reminder to anyone reading this review that Maui is very expensive. My unit is one of the lowest priced units of this size and proximity to the ocean on this entire side of the island. A mid-range rental would be double my rate and a high-end option would be quadruple. The unit may seem expensive compared to other destinations, but is fairly priced for this location. Also, the cleaning fee is a flat rate no matter how long the stay. These folks had a two night stay so it makes the per night price much higher than if they had stayed longer. One love...

Nice Place To Hangout And Just, Well, Savor The Maui Breeze & Vibe

  • 5 of 5

Conveniently located just outside of Paia on the Hana Highway. It is a two-lane "country" winding road with a posted speed limit of 25? (as I recall) due to the sharp curve on road near the building. All of the vacation essentials (beach towels, beach chairs, other assorted towels, bed sheets, boogie boards, kitchen cookware, toilet paper, etc.) were included, as well as a few blissful amenities tossed in.

It was great sitting on the terrace in the morning sipping coffee watching the sun rise and savoring adult-comfort beverages while watching the sun set. The unit is on the third floor, and the terrace faces the north with a view of swaying palm trees on a very quiet residential street. (Yes, there were a few occasional service vehicles in & out of Mama's, but again the terrace has a wonderful view & very, very, very quiet.) Even though there was always a nice breeze, the ceiling fans were very helpful. Loved walking through the residential area to the beach, the Kuau Store (although on the road), and of course strolling to the legendary Mama's Fish House (prices are a bit steep, but a wonderful experience). The sandy beach is perfect for families with small kids. There is a natural breakwater to buffer the waves. Perfect for snorkeling - various butterfly fish, sea urchins, as well as an occasional eel and sea turtle. Ho'okipa Beach Park is a very short drive.

We only cooked in a few times during our 11-day stay, so having only two of the four burners on the Jenn-Air working was not a big deal. It is Maui, and we were on vacation. There are world-class restaurants in every hamlet and shire on the island, so why cook all the time?

We had a very positive experience. We will rent this place again in a heartbeat.

Close to Paia and great beaches

  • 3 of 5

I loved the location and even inadvertently booked in the same complex not realizing this until we left for our trip.

The owners were very helpful to direct us to some amazing places to visit and let us occupy the condo early which was so great.

Downside was that the condo was not as clean as I would have liked and it smelled strongly of smoke.

I would recommend that the owner get the condo sprayed for bugs and make sure guests know their no smoking policy.

We did ask to get into the unit early so that might be why the unit was not as tidy as it could have been otherwise.

I do want to stress that the owners are very responsive and helpful though and the location was wonderful.

Eat at Mamma's Fish House if you can afford it, you will not be disappointed. One way to save a little cash is to eat in their lounge and have an appetizer the food was amazing.

The little beach within walking distance is a piece of heaven.

Wonderful experience!

  • 4 of 5

This condo was an exact fit for our needs and we really appreciated the extra items like the beach mats, boogie boards and beach chairs, they came in so handy. Good location and clean. However, I would like to make a few suggestions which we coped with, but might be worth looking at and considering so others can have an even better time. 1. There was a fold out bed and a couch to sleep on but there were no sheets or pillow cases, 2. With our stay we didn't always spend time together and a second door key would have helped immensely, the lock box on the door was ok but it created another number to remember and it doesn't allow others in the party to get in when others forget to put the key in the lock box, 3. A small ice chest cooler to take on day trips would have been so useful, 4. Recycling is a good idea but with only one trash container in the room handling of refuse was a problem, no place to store it so it piled up and became unsightly. We had a great time and will recommend your facility to others. Thanks for the discount. My family had the time of a lifetime.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your valuable suggestions. They are all good ones and we will make an effort to address them where possible. 1) will keep a second set of sheets out 2) will get a second key 3) small cooler...why not 4) not sure how to address the recycling. Probably less of a concern for shorter stays. For longer one maybe renters can let me know I'll come by and pick-it up. Main thing; let's keep that out of our landfills. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Sincerely, Josh
