About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bath, sleeps 7, fenced yard, driveway

Hideaway by the Bay is an air conditioned, nicely furnished, 14 year old vacation home located on a quiet street in this historic bayside community. Relax on the front porch; or, sit out on the back deck as you sip your morning coffee and listen to the birds and seagulls.

There's a gas barbecue grill on the back deck to cook up your catch of the day or enjoy your barbecue. Adults might enjoy sitting out the deck to eat while the kids might enjoy the picnic table in the yard. If it gets too hot, just come back in to the air conditioning.

Take leisurely strolls, shop, golf or dine in and around town. Bring your bikes or rent bikes in town.

You can rent golf carts, wave runners, jet boats and tow tubes and wakeboards right in town. Guests who stay here at Hideaway by the Bay should inquire about available discounts on golf cart rentals at Eastern Shore Custom Carts. Park your car, SUV, boat and the golf cart right in the driveway..

The house is about 4-5 blocks (4/10ths of a mile) away from the beach. It's well within walking distance; but, a golf cart would make it so much more fun.

The calm waters of the bay are perfect for families with children. Splash in the water, build sandcastles on the beach, fish off the pier; or, watch the sun set over the Bay.

Go kayaking and explore the Bay or kayak right up to one of the wineries along the Bay for some wine and cheese with Southeast Expeditions.

Hideaway by the Bay has a private drive with access from the street. It's perfect for boaters who want to bring their boats along with them on vacation. The Town's harbor includes a public boat ramp and transient boat slips. Fisherman will find a conveniently located bait and tackle shop right in town.

Travel north and explore the towns along Virginia's Eastern Shore using the book 'Off 13' as a guide. The book is in the house for use by travelers staying here at Hideaway by the Bay.

Take a drive about 10 miles south to visit the Eastern Shore of Virginia's National Wildlife Refuge.

Drive onto the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel to have breakfast, lunch or dinner in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay at the Sea Gull Pier Restaurant. There's also a 625 foot fishing pier right next to the restaurant along with a gift shop overlooking the Bay.

Seasonal produce, fresh seafood, ice cream, and many other goodies are available either in town or within a short drive from Hideaway by the Bay. There is something here for everybody to enjoy.

Golf carts are permitted in Cape Charles and you'll see them all around town. Residents and guests alike enjoy driving and riding around Town in golf carts.

Local fishermen, watermen and a tour boat /fishing charter captain live right nearby Hideaway by the Bay as neighbors. If you can catch up with them, they'll be happy to guide you to the "best kept" secret spots available to the public...

Beach supplies are available at Hideaway by the Bay so you can pack less and still have what you need to have fun. There are beach towels, 2 adult beach chairs with umbrellas, a small folding beach table and a beach cart.

You'll find a 32 quart Igloo cooler, 2 soft insulated coolers, a small jug with matching 6 pack cooler, a matching woven beach bag and beach mat set, a couple of beach bags, sand buckets and shovels, sand sifters, a picnic basket and citronella candles. There is garden hose with an upright pole with a rinse off shower head along with a garden hose for use as a foot bath.

Additionally, since Cape Charles is located in a coastal area, you'll find weather related preparedness information in the house along with emergency supplies for weather related emergencies, power outages ,sheltering in place or mandatory evacuations.

Everything you need

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we've stayed at Hideaway by the Bay and it continues to impress. This is by far the most well-outfitted beach house rental I've ever encountered. Everything you need - from the small (like paper towels, TP, tea bags, etc to get you started) to the large - like a gas grill, a printer, extra towels - is available. The house is extremely clean and comfortable, beautifully decorated with a beach theme, and nicely laid out for a small family group. The owner pays a lot of attention to the details. Highly recommended.

And a king sized bed!

  • 5 of 5

Nancy was very helpful in getting us sorted out and settled, despite our last minute booking. The house was clean, bright, and well outfitted. And we especially loved that it had a king sized bed - which for some reason is very hard to find in Cape Charles rentals! Looking forward to going back.

Awesome Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Nancy's home is meticulously kept, she personally keeps the home ready for your stay. The home is quiet, friendly, comfortable and makes you feel like you have a home away from home. The house is within walking distance to downtown Cape Charles, You can have breakfast at the local pharmacy and lunch or dinner at one of the few very nice restaurants, everyone in town has a smile and hello for you. There are romantic walks on the beach and many people gather for the sunset. If you are going to the Cape Charles area, stay at Nancy's she will make you feel at home and welcome!!

Thank you very much Nancy!!

Owner's Response: Hi Jay and Colleen, Thanks for taking the time to write HomeAway with such a nice review of your stay at my vacation home. I'm glad you chose my house; and, that you guys had a good time exploring the town, restaurants and the beach. The sunsets are beautiful, and people do gather to watch the sun go down. It's not uncommon to see golf carts pull up and park in front of the Promenade with both local folks and travelers waiting for sunset. Everybody seems to memorialize the sight in some way as as the sun sinks below the horizon on the Chesapeake Bay....the perfect ending to a perfect day. I understand there's been a an addition to your family since you've stayed at my home. Congratulations to both of you! I do so hope that you and the twins will all come back again soon...the calm Bay and very shallow pools at water's edge are just perfect for little ones to splash around. Thanks again for writing. I sincerely appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules. Nancy

AWESOME place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this beautiful home for several years now. It is truly a home away from home. Everything is provided...and I mean everything! You only have to bring your clothes! The landlord, Nancy, is wonderful to work with. She allowed us to bring our 2 dogs and she even has provided for those of us who travel with our pets. If you are looking for a place to stay in Cape won't find any better than this home! Make your reservations, pack your bags, and get ready to enjoy a relaxing, wonderful vacation in a BEAUTIFUL home!

Thank you Nancy for allowing us to enjoy your home for so many years and enabling us to make so many new memories!

Owner's Response: Dear Tim and Janis, Thanks so very much for taking the time to write this lovely review for my vacation home in Cape Charles. With the schedules that you both keep, I just don’t know how you found the time; but, I appreciate it so much. I have thoroughly enjoyed our e-mail and phone conversations over the years about jobs, careers, commuter traffic, travel adventures, families, furry ones, etc. I especially enjoyed our happen stance meeting the day you and Tim arrived with Roxy and Buster as I was frantically trying to get the flag up for the 4th of July before you arrive;, and, I got “caught”….. With my SUV in the back yard loaded, and the air conditioning running for my two furry ones who were waiting patiently for the long drive home, I was rushing to get that last little thing done when you guys pulled into the driveway with Roxy and Buster. I finally got to meet all of you. You were so gracious; and, because I had just had such a difficult time recovering from the previous rental guests, you insisted on washing and folding the wet towels and extra sheets that I had loaded to take back home with me. You both took such good care of my home each time you stayed…as if it was your own. I can’t thank you enough for everything. I truly will miss you folks. I wish nothing but the best for both of you and your family. Good luck in your new” home away from home”. Woof, woof to Roxy and Buster from Val and Speedy. Sincerely, Nancy Belsky

I picked this home for our retreat because it looked extremely appealing and just what I was looking for. I spoke with the owner and found that she was just as accomdating as her listing appears to be . I wanted a weekend, even though her season had started for weekly rentals, she accomated me. She e-mailed me all the information that answered any questions that I might have.

We arrived on Saturday, the home was in immaculate condtion. Everything needed was at our finger tips, down to Body Wash, shampoo, hair dryer and other personal items. There were many local brochures, with helpful information on the area , all settled in a neat littie basket under the coffe table. The kitchen housed everything needed to cook, if we choose to. There was even freshly dated conditments in the frig.

The beds and pillows were very comfortable, the water hot, the heating sytem very comfortabe. If you have kids, the kids bedroom is decorated lovely and has many videos and books for them

My brother , two sisters and myself were very pleased with everything in the home.

Cape Charles is a low key, relaxing beach resort. We found the main town streets to be quite interesting . We did vist the Cape Charles Memorial Historic Library on Tazewell Ave. & Plum St., the library is soon moving to Mason a Historic Bank building.

We only eat out once, the place was the Crab Shanty, located at the boat marina . The menu is seafood, which was good and the help very friendly and helpful. I loved Cape Charles and Hideaway By The Bay and hope to return in the fall .

I definitetely reccomend Hideaway By the Bay to everyone .

wonderful weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our family (7 total) stayed at Hideaway by the Bay for a weekend fishing trip. The house was everything we expected and more. The house is beautifully decorated and very inviting to have a relaxing weekend. I spoke with Nancy on the phone on several occasions and she was very kind, courteous and helpful in making sure our stay was the best it could be. The e-mail we received was very detailed about everything we needed to know before we arrived, while we were there and what we needed to do before we left. On our next fishing trip to Chesapeake, we plan to stay here again. I highly recommend Hideaway by the Bay for your stay in Cape Charles!!

Owner's Response: Dear Jason’s Family, Thanks so much for taking the time to write about your recent stay at my vacation house, “Hideaway by the Bay” in Cape Charles. I am glad you found my vacation home to be comfortable and inviting for you and your family on your weekend fishing excursion out on the Chesapeake Bay. I do hope you will return to “Hideaway by the Bay” and stay a little longer so you can also enjoy the beach; shop in the town’s nice little stores and eat at the restaurants in and around town. In case you missed it, there’s a long fishing pier at the south end of the beach for those in your family who might not want to go out on the boat. The public boat ramp in the town’s harbor is also just minutes from” Hideaway by the Bay” so you can easily launch your boat from there as well. I hope to see you again real soon. Sincerely, Nancy

Cape Charles, an historic Victorian-era town, is located at the southern end of Virginia's Eastern Shore on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Cape Charles, once a railroading town, is rich with history, and a step back in time ambience. Adding to the charm of the town and its relaxed atmosphere are local customs which reflect early traditions of life on the water.

Eclectic shops, restaurants, an old fashioned soda fountain at the town's only pharmacy, a hardware store, a bait and tackle shop, the Cape Charles Museum, plus art and antiques galleries can be found in town.

Cape Charles has a friendly town beach with a gazebo, a free fishing pier jutting out over the Chesapeake Bay, a working harbor with a public boat launch; and a park in the center of town.

Hideaway by the Bay is located in the center of town, right by the Town's beautiful Community Park.

Upscale amenities can be found at Bay Creek's' Resort and Club with 2 world class golf courses at one end of town and Bay Creek's upscale shops, restaurants and marina at the other end.

Other activities while staying at Hideaway by the Bay on the Eastern Shore would include: swimming, relaxing on the beach, boating, fishing, kayaking, winery tours, camping, nature trails, birding, National Wildlife Refuge exploration, Kiptopeke State Park, antique shopping, stargazing at the night sky, watching the spectacular sunsets over the bay.

Visit the ocean side Barrier Islands with an experienced eco-tour guide. Enjoy the beautiful seaside sights, sounds, birds, waterfowl, fish, dolphins, etc., as only an Eastern Shore native . can identify and point out for you. Captain Rick from Broadwater Bay EcoTours is native to the Shore. He can personalize your trip so that you'll get to see things of interest to you because he knows the best spots for shelling, sightseeing, fishing, etc.. On my tour out to the Barrier Islands, a pod of dolphins was swimming by on the way out to the ocean through the inlet between Cedar Island and Parramore Island. What a beautiful sight I was able to capture on video. Guest who stay at Hideaway by the Bay who wish to book a tour with the Captain, should inquire as to how they can obtain their discount.

Visit the Barrier Islands Center to learn about the history and artifacts of Virginia's barrier islands.

Have lunch on the water at Island House in Wachapreague or take a boat trip to Tangier Island.

There is so much to see and do just off of Route 13 that one trip just won't be enough. Have fun exploring the Eastern Shore, any time of the year. Come back again and again.

My beach house is available year round so it''s very comfortably furnished & decorated. The overall theme in the house is beach/summer/casual style with soothing colors and decor plus seasonal/holiday decorations. You'll feel relaxed as soon as you walk in the front door, and more so once you get unpacked and settled in. You can be close to home and still feel that you are far, far away from it all - it's a very peaceful environment. The living room is furnished with a Berkline Recliner sofa, loveseat and chair with two individual quilted throws and two soft fleece throws, perfect for those who start to relax and find the air conditioning just so comfortably cool that you need a little something to throw over you as you watch TV; or, for chilly nights in front of the fire in the winter. The kitchen is spacious with comfortable seating for six at the table and 2 extra stools for seating at the counter. The dining room seats 6 at the pub height table and 2 at the breakfast counter.
