Overview

About the property

Relax in an architecturally designed home set on a private 1-acre wooded property that is perched on a hill over looking the Oregon coast. Yachats is a quaint and peaceful village with small shops and friendly people. Spend an afternoon browsing through the shops or relaxing on one of the many decks while enjoying the breath-taking view of the ocean. The house is only one mile from the beach and adjacent to many hiking trails, such as Cape Perpetua, which offers interpretative walks of coastal features. Oregon weather is variable. Many past guests have enjoyed the sunsets and storms while perched on this peak 700 feet above the ocean.

This home is an open plan with high ceilings and skylights to bring in the morning sun. The fireplace can warm up your evening on those stormy nights. This retreat has an ocean view from the master bedroom, with a King-size bed and a large master bath with tiled shower and large jetted tub. The second bedroom has two twin beds and its own private deck and bathroom. Perched above is a sleeping loft with its own crow’s nest. A laundry and half bath are available on the main level. This is a great house for socializing. The open plan allows for good conversation, good cooking and good friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

WOW! What an intensely relaxing atmosphere! Sitting high above the world, the ocean view is intoxicating. It is amazing how far you can see from this bird's eye perch. There was plenty of room here and we each had a carved-out corner of this very interestingly designed home. The ceilings are high, giving it a much larger feel, but each sleeping area is uniquely tucked into the design. The use of transient light is lovely, using well placed interior windows and panels to carry the outside light throughout the home. The kitchen is expansive, giving plenty of room to create. At night, we enjoyed sitting by the fire in the rock fireplace, sipping wine and listening to the wonderfully stormy weather combined with the sound of the surf. We'll come back again and again. Thanks for just what we needed!

Lovely Spacious Home High in the Trees

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I greatly enjoyed Kip and Dena's place. There was a wonderful feeling of solitude high in the hills above the Pacific, yet we were just a few minutes from the center of town. We would highly recommend the great food at Ona's as well as delicious Italian food at Heidi's. Also enjoyed a tasty breakfast at the Driftwood, an historic Yachats dive now converted into a charming restaurant. Local Ocean in Newport has been a favorite for years for what I consider to be the best seafood on the coast. The house was clean upon arrival, the beds comfy, wifi good, cable tv good and super quiet.

Owner's Response: Yes, the variety of dining is good in Yachats...a walk up the hill to the house can be good for the digestion after dinner!

Charming house in gorgeous spot.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Horizon Hill House. We enjoyed the architecture of the place which maximises views and the feeling of being amongst the trees. The beds were all comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, both bathrooms were good. It was clean and felt well loved. Yachats is a lovely little town - close to some beautiful beaches and walks. I would thoroughly recommend.

Sooooooo Beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

Following a bad experience at a previous vacation rental (not at this site), we once again put our faith in the positive reviews of others and we were SO glad we did! This wonderful home is lovingly offered to guests and we enjoyed it immensely! It was everything we could want and more - very clean, cozy, and comfortable, with delightful artwork and collectibles to gaze upon indoors, and breathtaking ocean views beyond the gardens surrounding the home. I searched long and hard before we reserved this vacation rental and I could not be happier with our experience there! I even came away with the names of a few musicians I discovered in the CD collection, and we enjoyed the nice array of DVDs. Yachats is a beautiful small town and a wonderful spot to explore Florence and the surrounding coastal areas. The ocean is incredibly life giving and if this rental is available again we would love to return on an annual basis. Kip was wonderful to deal with. We would love to return!!

Owner's Response: We manage our property ourselves and do not depend on a large corporate clearinghouse, It is important to have personal contact with our guests. Respecting their needs is important and we want our company to feel comfortable with their vacation home. Thank you for your kind words!

A spectacular dwelling!!

  • 5 of 5

This property certainly met, really exceeded, all of our expectations. One has an otherworldly feeling living so high atop the hill surrounded by trees and overlooking the ocean. There was an overhang of clouds during our stay which contributed to the surreal atmosphere. Picture windows and skylights abound and give one the feeling of living both in and outdoors at the same time. Yachats itself is a quiet little village, but not without its "happenings" such as a wonderful annual world music festival we were lucky enough to attend while there. It is also close to some spectacular state parks, many trails and of course that ocean! A "getaway" in the truest sense and one which we would certainly want to revisit in future. Thank you, Dena and Kip!

PRIVATE, QUIET, TOP OF THE HILL

  • 4 of 5

We love the Yachats area; however with the "someday" tsunami threats we have kept ourselves away. This house is perfect for those who want the ocean view & sound with the ability to sleep at night knowing you are 700+ feet up. You will feel nestled in the forest with its shade, ferns and lovely breezes and if you walk just a tiny bit further up the hill you will have a breath taking view of the coastline (that many don't see). Very secluded & quiet.

Owner's Response: You realize how much power and size the coast has when you visit the top of the hill...looking across to Cape Perpetua to the South and North to Seal Rock and Yaquina Head along with the top of the Alsea Bay Bridge on a clear day.

Wonderful Stay At Your Welcoming Home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several coast rentals over the years and this now shares the top of our favorites list. A new experience to stay at the top of the hill overlooking Yachats! We stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday and spent our time using the well stocked kitchen (full Thanksgiving dinner among our meals!) and enjoying the fireplace in the living room. The master bedroom has a comfortable bed with wonderful windows overlooking the treetops and ocean-as does the livingroom and loft. Our son took one of the beds in the twin room and our daughter was excited to have the loft to herself. We used the telescope in the loft to look at the comet streaking by. When we wanted to add an extra day, Kip was very easy to get a hold of and accommodating. Lucky to have some incredible weather but even on our last day when the clouds and rain came in, the house was super cozy. We will be back in the future. Thanks from my family for adding to our holiday.

Owner's Response: We tried to create a special spaces in our home where guests can have a place to go for privacy or relaxation. Watching a comet or spying on whales is fun on the "birds nest" deck. Thanks for sharing your holiday with us!
