Description

Garden Valley Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

Newer 3-story log cabin located at the bottom of the Swirley Canyon whitewater run of the South Fork Payette River between Garden Valley and Lowman. You can launch and land rafts and kayaks from the property. Hiking, jeeping, ATV, and mountain bike trails start right from the end of the driveway. Public land adjoins the property and there is abundant fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Fall and winter are incredible for wildlife viewing. Summer is great for viewing birdlife. At night, open the windows and hear the soothing sound of the river.

This 2000 sq. ft. log cabin is very cozy. Because of its massive construction, no air conditioning is required to keep cabin cool in the summer. Summer days in Garden Valley start out cold and get warm in the afternoon (good for rafting and kayaking), the cabin stays a constant 72-76 degrees. In the spring and fall, the fireplace is used to supplement the electric forced-air heat. In winter, the fireplace and woodstove (in the walk-out basement) are used to keep the cabin extra-toasty.

Come get away from it all one hour from Boise. Amenities include massive windows with views, a Jenn-air style range and fully outfitted kitchen, massive 3-story fireplace, and a full bathroom on each floor. Cabin is roomy for a group of 6-8 people.

About Mark Anderson

My wife and I work in education. We have lived in Idaho 33+ years and love it. This cabin is located in an area that still retains much of the original Idaho flavor. That means that people are friendly, not in a hurry, and not all interested in making the next buck. While McCall and Sun Valley's economies have been largely replaced by the tourist industry, Garden Valley's resource based community refuses to die. Garden Valley is about the outdoors but not about fancy restaurants and expensive galleries. We like that because we come up to get away from it all. If this appeals to you, you'll love it there.

Mark Anderson purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Mark Anderson chose Southwestern Idaho

We bought here to have a cabin directly on the world famous whitewater river, the South Fork Payette. There is fishing, camping, hunting, mountain biking, jeep trails, ATV trails, etc. There is plenty of undeveloped, non-commercial outdoor recreation to do here.

What makes this cabin unique

Benefits include access to the river. The birding from the deck is great. We view osprey, eagles, hummngbirds, tanangers, herons, and other birds. You have access to lots and lots of beautiful mountain country with lots of hot springs and other surprises.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mark - thank you so much! We had a wonderful time celebrating our birthdays. The upstairs loft/bathroom was perfect for my grandparents while we could be rowdy at ping-pong in the daylight basement. Beautiful view.

Thanks!

Great stay!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights in this cabin and loved having the river basically at our feet. The cabin was clean and spacious enough for 5 adult males with only two of us having to share a bedroom with bunks. For a guys motorcycle trip it was fantastic. We enjoyed the deck for many hours of the day and evening with mostly shaded during the day as it was in the 90's. We found everything in the kitchen we needed to prepare meals and to clean up after ourselves with. The airport is directly across the river from the cabin and early morning takeoffs were a bit of a bother at 6:00 am. Keep the windows open at night to cool off the cabin and close them in the morning to keep it comfortable all day.We would definitely recommend this location for a quick getaway or for even a longer one. The owner, Mark, was accessible when we needed questions answered prior to our trip and he was helpful with emails about things to do and directions to the cabin. Everything was great while we were there so we did not need to call him. We were surprised to find a few "leftover" food stuffs, spices, cooking oil, canned goods, syrup, etc.. in the cupboards and added quite a few when we left hoping someone else might enjoy them. The only issue we =had was with a few old folding chairs on the deck that were not in very good shape, and unfortunately, we ended their ability to be used. I discussed it with the owner and he was very gracious about it. We will look to rebook with this owner again in the future. Thanks Mark!!

Owner's Response: Rick, sorry about chairs - things get old and fail. I replaced the chairs with non-folding metal frame chairs that will hold up longer. To be fair, the old chairs lasted many years. Thanks for letting me know they were no longer good.

A big hit with family from the UK!

August 2013. I'd told them we'd be staying in a cabin along the river for a couple of days. Their first impression: "This is NOT a cabin! It's a dream house!" There was plenty to do to keep the 13-yr old twins busy exploring while their mum relaxed on the deck soaking up some rays and pretending to read a book (with her eyes closed). There was a huge thunderstorm the first night and the power went out, so we cooked supper on the BBQ grill and later made s'mores in the fireplace. The ping pong table got a good workout when it was raining outside for a bit the next day. The cabin's very close to where we met up with Garden Valley Trail Rides. We'd taken a bag of carrots along so the horses could have a treat when the ride was done. Great fun! We opted for (relatively close) Bonneville Hot Springs for a little hiking and a nice soak the day after riding. Loved having a dryer so we weren't packing soggy clothes for the rest of our trip. Great value for the price. Recommended!

Owner's Response: Hi Tom, we'll go up and replace any worn pots and pans. We thought we left a serviceable selection of cooking pots and pans but I know there were a few old ones. Thanks for the idea.
