This place was wonderful.I have never stayed in a more relaxing and peaceful place. I would recommended to any of my friends, and to any one that is trying to get away and have a nice time.
We arrived at the cottage to find beer cans piled up from the previous renter and the cottage reeked of smoke even though it was supposed to be nonsmoking! We didn't show up early, they knew exactly what time we were coming. The cans should have been taken care of before our arrival. There were spiders and dead bugs in every corner and window, in cabinets and even in the refrigerator! The bedding was stained with who knows what and even found 3 dirty socks under the beds!! The few dishes that were there had food stuck on them, and no pans to use in the oven. The water in one shower didn't come out with more than a trickle. And speaking of water, it stunk so bad like sewage, we had to buy bottled water to use for drinking and cooking. You had to plug your nose while in the shower, if you dared to shower at all! If you have kids, take note: there were pieces of rusty metal and cement all over the yard and in the lake right in front of the dock, we spent the first day removing the hazards so the kids could at least go in the water. Just shows the total lack of concern for the guests! The lake has a very mucky bottom, not a nice place to swim! I tried to wash the kid's swim suits to get the lake smell off in the washer that was said to be there, only to find out it didn't work. Twice during our stay, raccoons got into the trash and hauled it all over the yard because the trash cans didn't have lids that fit or could lock on. We were told on the first day to bring the trash inside at night because raccoons were a problem, but who wants their stinky trash in the house at night!! Get a better trash can!! We did express our concerns to Michael. He said the cleaning lady would call to discuss things but instead of calling my cell like I asked, she called my home. Then I was told they tried to contact me but I never replied! Hard to get a message at home when I'm obviously not there! Michael's answer to any problem was to come visit him at another one of his rentals. Why not fix the issues at the one we paid money for?? If you don't care that a place is filthy and unsafe and just looking at the cost, this is for you. If you care the least bit about cleanliness, not getting injured on rusty metal and blocks of cement or not having to pick up trash thrown around the yard at 6am, DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!
Great get away from the hectic busy lifestyle and city life we live daily. Large property and Great Lake front for both my husband and our dog to enjoy as a family. The pontoon boat was a great plus as we spent several hours enjoying the water and views of the several lakes attached. Great fishing opportunities as well. Very quiet area to enjoy both the day and night around a fire. Came with both charcol and gas grille which we used both. Very relaxing atmosphere. Mike was very nice and a great person to deal with. Thanks again and we will be booking in the future!
I just don't know where to begin! Roger's Place will definitely see our family and friends again! This place was soooo much more than we expected! The pictures certainly do not do it justice! We arrived to find a beautiful place, immaculately clean, very spacious and located in a secluded area. We only had one neighbor next to us and they were so friendly and welcoming. The place provided all the comforts of home...plenty of dishes, pots and pans, cleaning supplies to tidy up, bedding. We really didn't have to bring much with us. The place has two bathrooms, one master bedroom with a queen bed, a larger sleeping area with two queen beds, one small bedroom with a twin bed, one pull out couch in the family room and one couch in the living area. The living area and family room were both equipped with televisions, with cable and movies. The place was also equipped with air conditioning which was wonderful as we stayed during the hottest days of the Summer! We had seven grandchildren and four adults stay here and we had plenty of room for everyone! The grandkids will remember this place, this time, for the rest of their lives...a lot of "firsts" were made...1st fish caught, 1st pontoon boat ride, 1st smores! The pontoon boat was fully fueled upon our arrival. The lake made it's way into several other lakes. The kids loved swimming in the lake that had very shallow spots for them to play. We had access to a gas grill and a charcoal grill and a fire pit with benches already there. There was a nice umbrella patio outfit that we took advantage of. Mike and his crew made sure they covered every last detail of making our stay a memorable one. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Mike and crew, for all your hard work to insure our family was comfortable and happy! Our grandchildren will always remember the time they had at "Roger's Place"!
Guys weekend, nice to hang around outside. Good view of the lake by the fire. Had to aquire our own wood, but no big deal. 4 real beds, a fold out and a mattress, would sleep ten if you are real good buddies, but we chose to not be and single occupy. ATV friendly community, short ride to the bar/restaurant up the street, damn good food! Great place to hang outside, nice lake to take a pontoon ride on. Would stay again, it's not new, but nice work in proress
I read the reviews for this property carefully, because I questioned the quality of a lakefront property with a boat rental option at $1,000 for a week. It seemed too good to be true! It is.
To anyone thinking of bringing children to Roger's Place, please reconsider. Our children are ages 4 & 2; while they had a great time and would never know differently, as parents we were holding our breath and cringing at the number of safety hazards on the property.
There is a considerable amount of rusty metal, especially outside (tetanus, anyone?). There are a a few sawed-off metal posts and PVC piping sticking out of the ground that have rough edges. The septic tank has been dug up and is "covered" with a section of wood fence draped over the top. The insulation on some electrical cords is cracked, and the copper wiring is exposed. There are no smoke detectors inside.
Our son found a first aid kit; we opened it to discover cough syrup that expired in 1994.
When I inquired about the pontoon rental, the property manager said life jackets were on board for use. He was aware of our children's ages. We ended up brining our own, and were relieved that we decided to do so, because not only are they worn and faded (and should be discarded according to the safety note printed on them by the manufacturer), they were all rated for persons 90 pounds and over. The boat is not equipped with a sounding device as required by law. The fire extinguisher was manufactured in 1999. There is no stated expiration date on extinguishers, but it is recommended that they be replaced after 7-10 years, even if they are fully charged.
The smell that others mentioned is still an issue. It is NOT a wood odor - put your face down on the carpet and you will know where the obvious smell of motor oil is coming from.
The beds are terribly uncomfortable. An air mattress provides better comfort.
The kitchen sponge was old and smelly. The coffee maker was grimy on the inside.
These are some of the more notable issues, but there are many more. I will say if we hadn't rented the pontoon, we would have left earlier - it provided us an escape from the property, which is not what vacation is supposed to be. If I could ask for our money back, I would, but I made the mistake of paying cash, as requested by the property manager.
Spend your money somewhere else. The property doesn't seem to be maintained by people who are thinking of risk management. An accident is waiting to happen there.
