About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 10

Beautiful waterfront home on 4 acres with breathtaking views of the Esopus Creek, Broad Hollow Stream, and Mountains. Guests have always been in awe of the beauty of the setting. Only 1 mile from Phoenicia border-3 miles from Village. Secluded to be a great party house or romantic couples retreat, but not isolated as it is conveniently located on a private road off of Rt 28. All the comforts of home with a fully equipped kitchen, cozy fireplace, and an exercise room with two recumbent bikes and fitness equipment. Amenities also include cable tv, hi-speed wireless internet, and a washer/dryer. Each room has TV & DVD, or maybe you'll prefer listening to the rushing Esopus which can be heard from virtually every room in the house. The lawn is great for sports, running around, or having a campfire. The magnificent 60 foot deck was built for a party and has a section that is covered so that you can stay dry and take a nap outside listening to the rain gently dance on the tin roof.

What A View!

Review Submitted: March 28, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009

We really enjoyed our weekend there. We were 10 people; 6 adults and 4 children. The view from the house was incredible. I would recommend this house for all seasons. We stayed during the ski season, but I can imagine that it would be a beautiful place all year round. Owner was very accommodating. Wanted to make sure we enjoyed our weekend. House was nice, updated and clean. We can't wait to go back next year. Thanks again Mike!

We rented this house at the end of May, to allow our son to flyfish in the area for his high school graduation gift. This house is amazing, and you couldn't ask for a better, more private yet convenient location. My son (age 18) took photos of the house and said he wants one just like it some day! The bedding was VERY comfortable, and we loved the porch out back-great views, lovely breeze, and oh so quiet! The owner was very accomdating - great communication from start to finish. I can't recommend this place highly enough - you will NOT be disappointed if you want a quiet place to relax that's close to restaurants, etc. The town itself is very small and laid back - perfect for a relaxing getaway. If you're fishing, check out Hank Rope (lives near this town) as a guide - so helpful.

Perfect trip to get out of NYC

  • 5 of 5

Mike’s house was truly fantastic. It’s amazing. Some friends and I spend a few nights there to go skiing/snowboarding at Hunter mtn (very close by) and celebrate a birthday. The house has a very cool vibe/decorated theme, the bed linens were very fresh (to me this is really important), and the kitchen was fully stocked (better than my own apartment). The property is gorgeous. With a beautiful outside deck, you can look out over the Esopus and enjoy mountain views. At nighttime there is a fire pit and a hose nearby to allow easy disassemble. It was very difficult to leave the house, and I am already planning a trip back to stay at Mikes. Best part of the stay…. seeing a bald eagle that is living close by! Thank you Mike for being so helpful, and having everything set up for our stay. Will definitely return.

Shandaken is located in the center of the beautiful Catskill Mountain Forests Preserve and 3 miles from the quaint town of Phoenicia which offers unique shopping, delicious food, and tubing down the Esopus Creek. Minutes away are fantastic hiking trails for all desired difficulty levels ranging from Giant Ledge to Mount Tremper Fire Tower. Only 12 miles from Woodstock which offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants , music and cultural events. The drive there offers beautiful country roads and views. The Catskills offers natures best for all seasons whether it's Trout fishing in Spring, tubing down the pristine Esopus in Summer, enjoying fantastic fall foliage in Autumn, or skiing at one of the three major mountain areas nearby (Belleayre 8 miles, Hunter 17 miles, Windham 25 miles away). America’s original wilderness is a region vivid with natural beauty, enticing to the senses, and filled with fun.
