Unique and fun things to do in this tropical vacation paradise:

We provide a great guest binder in the villa with information about activities and with menus from the great local restaurants.

- Visit the world famous Venice Audubon Rookery where herons, egrets and other birds nest. 8 miles away, free. Peak Season is Winter/Spring. Google 'Venice Audubon Rookery'

- Scuba Dive off of Venice Beach for fossil sharks' teeth including huge Megalodon teeth and other fossils. You can go right in from the shore. 4 miles away. Or go out on a Florida West Scuba School charter boat that will put you right on the best spots. You can also get quickly certified and do your training dives right from the beach where the sharks' teeth are. Visibility is best in April, May & June but divers go year round. Google 'Florida West Scuba School'

-- Enjoy the drum circles at Nokomis Beach every Wednesday and Saturday 1 hour before Sunset. 1/2 mile away. Google 'Nokomis Beach Drum Circle'

-- Go Kayaking with any of several local outfitters. Take a tour, a class, rent a kayak or go to a free kayak demonstration day to try paddling many models for free. You can also rent Kayaks and Canoes at Myakka River State Park and canoes at Oscar Scherer State Park mentioned below. Google 'Nokomis Florida Kayak".'

-- Visit Myakka River State Park and walk thru the tree tops on one of the world's few canopy walks. They also have tours on the world's largest airboat for up close views of alligators and other wildlife (airboat tour is $10) 20 miles away. Admission to the State Park is $5 per carload. Google 'Myakka River State Park'

-- Ride a bicycle or walk along our recently completed paved bicycle/multi-use trails: the Venetian Waterway Park in Venice (10 miles of paved trail along both sides of the intercoastal waterway) and the 12 Mile Legacy Trial from Venice to Sarasota. A trail-head is less than 2 miles away. Google 'Sarasota Legacy Trail' and 'Venetian Waterway Park'

What a wonderful location. Our two favorite place were Pops and the North Jetty Fish Camp. We had a great time - so close. Great. Clean. Convenient. We will be back.

Will be back next year!

The owner Greg was there to greet me and had the lawn freshly mowed. Everything I needed was there. Shopping, the beach, restaurants all close by. Stayed here many times...never disappointed. Nice area felt safe being a single lady staying alone. Thanks Greg

Great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed the last week of September and the weather was great. We would recommend Seahorse Shores to anyone. The location is perfect, only a short way to the beautiful Nokomis Beach. There were beach chairs, sand toys and bikes in the garage. This area is a great place to ride bikes. We took the bikes to Legacy Trail for a ride and it was really nice. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, all the comforts of home. The neighborhood is quiet, yet walking distance to a bait shop, ice cream shop and a convenience store. We rode bikes to the beach and around the neighborhood. We hope to come back next year for another wonderful vacation.

Rustic and Rusty

  • 2 of 5

I have to admit we were a bit taken back when we first entered the property. I will admit it was inexpensive for the area. It looked like it was furnished from Goodwill. Hand painted kitchen cabinets and a rust covered refrigerator. It did have what you needed for the stay though. Bath needs repair in tub area as grout is missing around tile. Had problems with the internet but owner came over immediately and got it working. Owner seemed to be a nice fellow and assured me that the place would grow on me. I guess it did because I made it through the week. I would not recommend the property to a friend. However, if you just want to have an inexpensive place to stay close to Venice and Nokomis Beach and don't care how fancy it is. This would be an OK choice.

Owner's Response: Wow. This is the worst review we have ever gotten in 13 years. There are some people that are unhappy they didn't get the Ritz Carlton when they got the Marriott at Motel 6 rates. These people paid the lowest rate of the entire year. Yet people who pay a rate 400% higher in February are thrilled by the attention to detail and comfort. Before addressing their specific complaints, let me point out what they did get: new luxury thick towels and sheets, new pots, pans, dishes, glasses. A 40" Samsung LED HDTV, use of bicycles and beach equipment, high pressure shower head on city water. Not to mention a laundry room, full kitchen, and a great location that is safe and quiet and walking distance from arguably the nicest, least spoiled, beach in Florida. Read ANY review other than theirs to see what the place is really like. As to the particular complaints: As I told him, the usual love seat shown in the vrbo photos is at the re-upholsterer getting a $1200 re-upholstery job. Hence the two temporary recliners that made it "[look] like it was furnished from Goodwill". The refrigerator that is "rust covered" is not rust covered. It is also in the listing photos. It has one partially visible side that has rust spots A replacement had already been purchased before they got here but not yet put inside (because it is in the adjacent unit while the stainless one that is supposed to be in there is getting a $400 repair of the cooling system). As far as the "hand painted cabinets", that pretty much says it all. The cabinets are fun, beachy, tropical and sturdy. They are solid wood cabinets and we had the choice to replace them with new McMansion particle board ones, or to paint them a lovely tropical turquoise and attach custom metal seahorse handles. We did the latter. Look at the photos in the listing. The photos don't lie. When the guy paying peanuts wants the place to look like a 2015 country club, the problem is the guy, not the place. As far as grout imperfections around the tub, let me point out what he didn't say: he didn't say anything was dirty, or moldy, or smelly or broken or anything like that. When we put in the new 300 pound cast iron Moen tub, the necessary tile repair around the edge may be showing an imperfection in the grout by now. If that, and how the kitchen cabinets are painted, is an issue for you, stay in a small room at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton (which is miles from the beach) for more per day than you paid for the week for an entire home.

Wonderful place. Close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

The house was everything described. It was my husband, toddler and myself. Plenty of room. The owners are very accommodating and responsive when having questions. The house is located in a perfect location with Nokomis beach very close and publix. A must is Nokomis Grove. BEST ICE CREAM ANYWHERE. Restaurant s are very close also. Would recommend to anyone especially if you want close to the beach or a nice getaway .
