Cosy, clean and comfortable, Clough Head Cottage is a traditional Peak District stone cottage, part of our farmhouse, but self-contained and private. It is a restful rural retreat, ideal to enjoy after a day's exploration by car, foot or cycle of the Peak District's many attractions.
The sitting room is equipped with satellite TV, sound system, games chest, books and local maps, CDs and DVDs.
The kitchen/diner has everything for your needs - cooker, microwave, toaster, and is fully equipped. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk are provided to welcome you.
There are two bedrooms (one king-size double, one with single bed and additional single futon). We have a cot available if you require one. There is a utility room with sink and dishwasher, space for coats, muddy boots etc, and clothes can be dried in front of the boiler fan. Bed linen, towels and tea towels are included, as is free broadband wifi.
There is also a bath/shower room and utility, with drying facilities for walkers and cyclists. We try to follow green principles, using solar power and a biomass wood pellet boiler.
There is off-street parking for several vehicles and lockable bicycle storage. We support walkers and cyclists with cleaning and maintenance facilities.
The cottage has its own front door and a patio garden with table and chairs and stunning views across to Chrome Hill and Hollins Hill.
Visitors are welcome to walk, play or picnic in our three acre field with stream, where there are plenty of wild flowers in season. Many species of birds come to feed and you can enjoy the swallows and house martins swooping overhead and listen to the calls of the garden birds and those on the adjacent moorland. Our chickens are very sociable.
Clough Head is on the side of a ridge which divides the Upper Dove and Manifold rivers, with the White Peak on one side and the Staffordshire Moorlands on the other.
Situated in a beautiful spot looking across to Hollins Hill and Chrome Hill, there are scenic walks and cycle routes from the door, and outstanding attractions a short drive away.
Walkers and mountain bikers have a range of inspirational routes to choose from, with superb views without too much effort from Chrome and Parkhouse Hills to the North-East, Axe Edge to the North-West, the Roaches and Blackshaw Rocks to the South-West, and Sheen Hill and High Wheeldon to the South-East.
This area is famous for its cycle trails, especially the High Peak and Tissington trails, the Manifold track and parts of the National Cycle Network.
The nearby picturesque village of Longnor has a good local store, a post office/store, two pubs serving food, an excellent fish and chip shop, two cafés and an arts and craft centre.
The elegant spa town of Buxton and market town of Leek are a short drive away. Also within easy driving distance are the magnificent stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, the attractive Peak towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Matlock, the villages of Hartington and Eyam with its historic plague story, the beautiful National Trust gardens at Biddulph Grange, the Castleton caverns, adventure at Alton Towers, and stunning Dovedale.
Helen and Alick are on hand and happy to help with any information or requests that you have. We can advise and supply maps for walking and cycling routes, many of which begin from the cottage front door.
