Everything about the property is exactly as described. It has all you need. Diane and Brian are wonderful hosts. We were beyond happy with the property and hosts and would highly recommend.
Great vineyard stay.
The location was awesome. There is all kinds of room. Great vistas. Dianne and Brian were wonderful hosts.
The Dolce Vita!
Staying in this gorgeous property made us feel like celebrities. Being part of a working vineyard was an experience full of wonder. From the warm welcome by the owners, the comfort of the villa to the views of the Alps, vineyards and hilltop towns, you didn't even need to leave the property to feel the essence of Italy. The location is perfect for day trips to medieval towns, wineries and historic sites, but we were always anxious to get back to our rental to relax and live the "sweet life". The property and home were so beautiful and the owners so gracious that it felt like we had booked a vacation in an upscale boutique hotel. I would highly recommend renting this property and if I could rate it 10 stars I would!
Beautiful villa and fabulous hosts! Everything I could have wanted...and more!
Friends and I stayed for two weeks at this lovely hilltop villa. Brian and Dianne welcomed us with a lovely outdoor aperativo, which included their own wine and delicious appetizers. Throughout our stay, they cheerfully answered our questions and made recommendations regarding things to do. As a result, we went to a fabulous truffle festival in Bergamasco and had a memorable "white truffle" meal at Il Tre Poggi. We enjoyed Dianne's delicious home cooking on three occasions, including my birthday celebration, and participated in an impromptu group ravioli-making session that was lots of fun. It was so nice to return home after a day of adventures to have a meal ready to eat...and to drink without worrying about driving!
The villa itself is set among lush gardens and vineyards and overlooks a spectacular valley. We loved waking up to a gorgeous view and watching the sun set over the valley each evening. One evening, we were treated to the rare occurrence of the full moon rising over the hill behind the villa -- truly spectacular!
The villa itself has a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to do your own cooking. The living room is spacious and comfortable and has a gorgeous view. We enjoyed making a fire each evening with the wood that was provided just outside our kitchen door, in the cantina. Also in the cantina was a ready supply of Diane and Brian's wine for purchase at a very reasonable cost...we drank quite a few bottles! The living room had well-organized tourist information for each local town; we used that information to plan several of our adventures.
Canelli itself is a lovely little village. It has numerous restaurants, shops, and grocery stores, as well as the Contratto winery, which is well worth a visit, as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We took an all-day wine tour that included the La Spinetta and Contratto wineries, as well as lunch at the Ape Wine Bar, and loved it. We also went on a truffle hunt with a local Canelli truffle hunter, who also owns a salumeria. (The dog found three truffles, and ate one!) After the hunt, we had a wine tasting accompanied by local cheeses, meats, and eggs with white truffles.
Within easy driving distance are many lovely towns. A visit to Alba and Neive are a must, as they are set among the gorgeous rolling hills and famous vineyards of the Langhe.
Many, many thanks to Dianne and Brian for making my stay so memorable. I think you'll see me again!
A perfect few days
This is our second visit to Cascina Cavolpi. It's such a peaceful place with stunning views with everything we could need. Brian and Dianne are the most perfect hosts and looked after us so well. A big, big thank you again and we couldn't recommend this villa more.
Hospitality on high .
Half way up a hillside, so, wonderful views, sunsets and sense of space . The steep roads you get used to! Dianne and Brian greet you with drinks and canapés and send you off with the same hospitality. In between they are discreetly present for whenever you have a query or need assistance. Perfect hosts. The house is also spacious with a lot of elegant detail and thoughtful extras. No wifi or TV - a plus when you want to really get away from it all - but plenty of DVDs for adults and children, games and books. One extra room is solely equipped for children. Our children spent a lot of time in the pool and we also visited Canelli just down the hill for shopping at Simply and Lidl, beautiful Asti and Aqui Terme on market day. My only regret - that we didn't have the luck to spot the bee eater in their garden.
Canelli, an Italian wine capital has many local wineries offering wine tasting, try Barbera, Dolcetto or sparkling Moscato. The town's historic cellars are World Heritage sites.
Barolo and Barbaresco, the famous wine towns are only 30 minutes away.
Every week, markets and festivals make Canelli and surrounding area a vibrant and friendly place to visit, though as yet largely undiscovered by tourists.
The larger medieval towns of Asti, and Alba, and Art Noveau Spa town of Acqui Terme, all within half hours drive are a 'must' for both sightseeing and shopping.
Also within easy reach -Turin, Milan, the Lakes, Genoa and the Ligurian coast.
There are many excellent resturants offering famous Piedmont cusine. Come in October to sample the areas world renowned white truffle. The Alba festival is open every weekend, along with many smaller local ones throughout the month. Many restaurants feature special truffle menus.
The national parks and many other rural areas are ideal for walkers.
