Notes:
Children are welcome but because the house has balconies and the garden, a pond, a well, steps and decking built out from the hillside, very young children do need a high degree of supervision to assure their safety. The bathroom and shower room are on the first floor, so it is essential that any guest can manage stairs. We ask that smokers only do so outside, either on the balcony or the terrace. The playroom on the first floor, has two extra children's beds in it, but you do have to go through this room to reach one of the double bedrooms and both the bathroom and shower room. It is also equiped with books, toys, games and puzzles for young children. Each bedroom and the downstairs lounge also have adult books and games. Outside there is an above ground, pool for exclusive use by guests to cool off in during the summer months and a full sized table tennis table. There is off road parking for 2 guest vehicles. The owners access is at the rear of the house.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • 5 of 5

The description of this villa does not do it justice. We have thoroughly enjoyed several peaceful holidays there. The villa has beautiful views overlooking the valley with the Alps in the distance. It is situated in an ideal location for touring around Italy's best wine producting regions. The owners are charming hosts and provide beautifully cooked evening meals with their own wine on request.

If you want to recharge your batteries I thoroughly recommend this villa and region.

Hospitality on high .

  • 5 of 5

Half way up a hillside, so, wonderful views, sunsets and sense of space . The steep roads you get used to! Dianne and Brian greet you with drinks and canapés and send you off with the same hospitality. In between they are discreetly present for whenever you have a query or need assistance. Perfect hosts. The house is also spacious with a lot of elegant detail and thoughtful extras. No wifi or TV - a plus when you want to really get away from it all - but plenty of DVDs for adults and children, games and books. One extra room is solely equipped for children. Our children spent a lot of time in the pool and we also visited Canelli just down the hill for shopping at Simply and Lidl, beautiful Asti and Aqui Terme on market day. My only regret - that we didn't have the luck to spot the bee eater in their garden.

A pleasant stay in Canelli

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the reception we got from the host and found the apartment and furnishings completely satisfactory. Dianne gave us a tour of the grape harvest and shared their own product wine. We ordered a case to be shipped home.

Peace and Quiet in the Countryside

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned home from our tenth visit to Cascina Cavolpi. This most recent visit happened in May, which is the earliest that we have been to Canelli, having previously been there in every month up to late October.

On arrival, we were given the usual warm welcome by our hosts, Di and Brian, followed by an aperitif and one of Di's delicious dinners which, of course, included wines from their own vineyard.

Following our usual custom, we spent two weeks relaxing by reading and looking at the scenery from the elevated garden, with occasional forays on foot, or by car, into the Piedmontese countryside, as well as a few shopping trips to nearby Canelli. The backdrop of the Alps, with the peaks well dressed in winter snow, were majestic in all their splendour.

In order not to spoil the rural tranquillity, we had advised our friends that we would be out of reach by mobile 'phone. Not true - but it afforded us the luxury of perfect peace.

All too soon it was time to return home, but we had enjoyed yet another restful break in the company of our very amenable hosts.

Return Visit to Cascina Cavolpi !

  • 5 of 5

We returned to Cascina Cavolpi after a five year absence and enjoyed our stay just as much the second time around.

The villa is clean, spacious [ample room for six] and well equipped. We welcomed the addition of a dishwasher since our first visit!

It is situated high up on a hillside with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the Alps visible on a clear day. It is very peaceful. There are lovely little towns and markets to visit and many cantinas for wine tasting!

Diane and Brian make this place. They are kind and helpful without ever being intrusive. Diane is a splendid cook and Brian's wines made the meals fantastic. Their suggestions for a morning of Italian cooking lessons and a visit to a local polenta festival were surprisingly interesting and fun. A big" thank you" to both of them.

Last but not least you can't beat the price! We would be back more often if we lived closer.

5 good reasons to stay here......

  • 5 of 5

1. The Area : Surprisingly dramatic with a really active rural lifestyle

2. The Towns : Especially Acqui & Alba with interesting shops & markets

3. The Food & Wine : High quality restaurants. Not expensive. (see 5)

4. The House : Everything you will need is provided. Wake up to that view.

5. Di & Brian : Saved the best till last. Di's food is so delicious and Brian's wine is not only made with love and skill but it doesn't give you a hangover ! (no preservatives we're told).
