About Eric & Judy Strom

We've been skiing for many years all over New England & New York. We found Jay to feel like home, from the views, to the people that we meet, they're is something special about Jay Peak. We both love to ski, bike, hike, cook, chill on the deck with a cocktail & take in the sunsets. We've found it here & hope our guests feel the same when they come to stay.

Eric & Judy Strom purchased this house in 2005

Why Eric & Judy Strom chose Vermont

When we found this property we weren't exactly looking to buy. There was something about the North East Kingdom(NEK) that was so beautiful, we decided to do it. Next step, build a home. We'd found over the years that staying in many ski homes, you really need comfort, a place for everyone to gather, views, games, a pool table, hiking & biking near by. We feel we've captured most of that here, plus we are dog friendly & know most people consider they're dogs apart of the family.

What makes this house unique

Privacy, comfort, hiking, biking, snowmobiling right out the front door. HUGE deck to spend the summer & fall & take in the views.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey guys,

Wanted to say thanks for letting us stay at StromHaus. It was great! We will certainly be staying there again. Such a great setting and location to Jay was just right. Thank god for Subarus though - it was a little tricky getting out the one day! Wish I had known about the tuning bench! I would have brought my tuning stuff and saved myself a few hours the previous week! Next time - right?

Are either of you patrollers? Couldn't help but notice the NSP posters and magazines around the house. My dad is on the patrol at the local hill down here.

Thanks again for a great stay and we look forward to visiting again soon!

Owner response: Dave, glad you enjoyed your stay. I was there right before your arrival and I understand what you mean about the tricky driveway. My Subbie almost didn't make it out either!

I am a Patroller, 13 years and going strong. Glad to hear we had family at the house. Let us know the next time you're ready to come up and we'll do our best to accommodate you!

Great Location, Great House

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed everything about this house. Its perfect for groups of up to 8 people. We had six adults, two kids and our dog and all of us were very comfortable with the sleeping arrangements. Everything is provided at the Strom Haus, from bedding for the futons, to kitchen supplies (dishes, pots, pans, ice cold beer glasses, shot glasses, paper towels, trash bags, seasonings and more), to snow shoes, tuning station, entertainment (cable TV, Wifi, pool table, etc), and most important of all the Webber Grill. This house has everything a small group would want in a vacation rental.

Although the house is beautiful and accommodating, the location is really what sets the Strom Haus apart from other vacation rentals. The house sits alone on a piece of property that boasts many snowshoe/hiking trails that take off right from the back yard. There is a river that runs through the woods and under Journey's End and creates some spectacular scenery with the snow and ice. The house is also about 15 minutes from Jay Peak and a stone's throw away from the Canadian border.

The locals and the local small businesses were also phenomenal. We visited Troy General Store on our first night for some pizzas that exceeded our expectations and beer. We must have visited this store three or four times during our visit, purchasing everything from pizza and beer, to local Vermont products such as apple cider, maple syrup and honey. There were also a few locals who seemed to use the location as a hang out and were seeking to have friendly conversations with whoever would engage. It is an awesome local spot. We also visited Brault's Slaughterhouse and Meat Market, which happens to be just across the street from the General Store. We got some of the freshest steaks and beef jerky possible and they were delicious on the grill.

Overall the Strom Haus and the location exceeded our expectations. The house is beautiful and the Strom's have done a great job with providing their guest with the staples we all seem to overlook when traveling. The property itself is amazing and the location and the locals are out of this world. This house offers so much for families that love the outdoors and outdoor activities, regardless of the season. We are already discussing plans to return in the summer/fall to take full advantage of the hiking trails and the overall serenity this location is sure to deliver.

Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful, Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Nothing but praise for a beautiful property. I hope to someday live in a place like this the silence and peacefulness of this place cant be described. Just a mile or so for the road that brings you to the Long Trail. Very short distance to Jay Peak. We enjoyed this place and if we are in the area again look forward to staying here.

Gloriously quiet and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We have had such a great trip up to Jay. The house was amazingly close to The Long Trail, so we just drove down the street and day hiked to the Canadian border and enjoyed the stunning vistas. With Jay peak so close, this place is ideally located for both quiet seclusion and all the perks of a bustling ski resort. We were here in early September- the weather was warm with a cool breeze and just as good as it gets. We took the tram up Jay Peak and hiked down. You can see the entire state of Vermont and beyond from up there.

The house was very clean and comfortable. We made excellent use of the oversized deck with lots of lounging and reading. It was the perfect quiet little getaway that was definitely in order. Our souls are soothed after our time drinking in all the nature.

Thanks for your hospitality!

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We rented the property this summer to attend the kingdom swim on Memphremagog. The property was clean and neat. We had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The owners were more than accommodating and their level of concern for our comfort was outstanding. We liked the fact that we even had the option of bringing our pets, but alas, no vacation for the pooches.

i loved my stay at here!

  • 5 of 5

I truly enjoyed staying at this cottage. i need the time alone, being in the city can be very hectic. I saw deers and wild rabbits when I would hang around the terrasse and I loved that! Birds singing and it really is a very peaceful place. This is a perfect place for a group of people that want to BBQ outside on a huge terrasse, go hiking and just relax. I enjoyed using the kitchen cooking as well. Overall it is a very good place to just let go. I used it like a silent retreat for myself. Eric and Judy are very accommadating hosts, even though I did not meet them, communication through email and phone was suffice.

Thank you for the experience Eric and Judy!
