CRYSTAL LAKE: return to your childhood summer vacations! Wake up early, the sun is shining, the bacon’s frying and the lake is clear and inviting. Walk out to your private sandy beach on Crystal Lake. Take a refreshing swim to the 'blue line”. Spend the day golfing, fishing, water skiing, or just relaxing. Read a book or watch the kids play. It’s your vacation!
Welcome to our LOG CABIN on Crystal Lake! Come and enjoy our beautiful, weed-free, hard-packed, sandy-bottomed swimming beaches. Crystal Lake is known as one of the ten most beautiful inland lakes in the world and you’ll know why when you see it! What our beach offesr is plenty of sugar soft sand for castle building and a dock and swim platform for sun bathers and swimmers. The crystal clear water is perfect for children, as it is shallow until you are out beyond the dock.
The LOG CABIN sleeps five and is about 200 feet from the water’s edge and is situated among old growth forest. It is a beautiful, authentic LOG CABIN which was built by hand in 1959! The cabin is about 1000 square feet and has two living areas. A charming stone fireplace lends backwoods ambiance to the front room. The tools that built this cabin are hanging on the wall. This room contains a king size bed, a twin bed, and a pleasant sitting area. A locking door separates the front and back rooms. The back room contains the kitchen, bathroom and a curtained off 2nd bedroom with 2 twin beds. The kitchen has a stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, blender and dinner table to seat 10! There is also an outdoor charcoal grill outside and a stone FIRE PIT.
Dogs are an important member of many families. Our cottage is on a seasonal road with just one neighbor across the road, it’s a very safe place for children and dogs. To add to the safety and privacy there is no road between the cottage and the lake. Over half the lake has the road next to the homes or between the lakes and the property keep this in mind when looking at properties on crystal lake.
Well-behaved dogs can run and swim to their hearts’ content! We allow Dogs in our LOG CABIN . There has been some question of poison ivy in the woods. There is a three leaf plant in the outer grounds of the yard but it is NOT poison ivy. We have treated plants that we suspect is poison ivy. . I have checked and will continue to check. Realistically your pet should not be running around the woods. The open mowed grounds are very large. If you are interested in bringing your dog along, please call us to discuss that possibility. There is an additional charge for each dog and we ask they not be left unattended in the cottages. We have a large dog crate on the premises.
Our LOG CABIN is in Mollineaux Bay between Frankfort and Beulah off 115. Beach chairs are in good supply! Please ask about boat rental options. I always prefer to talk to you before you rent to answer any questions so If you have any questions please call or email us for additional information.
We are very proud of our LOG CABIN it is nestled in an area we like to think of as our 'Heaven on Earth'. There are many wonderful things to do in this area. The bike path to Elberta and Beulah is only a mile down the neighborhood road. The full length of the “rails to trails” is about 24 miles. Explore the pristine North Michigan country side. Buy a cherry pie – the Cherry Hut in Beulah has been recommended by Reader’s Digest as having the nation’s best cherry pie! The beautiful city of Frankfort, Michigan, just a couple miles down the road, is a quaint, picturesque, port city with great dining, shopping, KILWIN'S ICE CREAM, and Lake Michigan Beaches. See a movie at the historic Garden Theater in Frankfort.
Bring your dog for a walk on the Lake Michigan beach at Elberta (by “Trick Dog”). The famous Sleeping Bear Dunes are less than an hour north of us! Take a day trip to Traverse City for a sail on a tall ship. Visit the Lelanau Peninsula and do some antiquing. There is always berry picking for strawberries, cherries, blueberries, or raspberries close by. Check out the always family friendly double features at the Cherry Bowl drive-in theater just down M-31 in the town of Honor.
We invite you to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan and enjoy the breath-taking views of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world right on your very own beachfront. The memories you make will bring you back year after year!

Musty, Moldy and Cold
Be aware that this very small, rustic waterfront cabin has no heat--no space heaters, no built-in heat system at all. It is also very damp and musty smelling inside. We were not able to stay in the cabin for more than 20 minutes before it became difficult to breathe because of the mold. My girlfriend and the dogs all started sneezing. That and the frigid temperature in the cabin on an afternoon in late May caused us to leave without even unpacking. To the owner’s credit they issued an immediate refund without even a discussion. This unit is definitely not as advertised. Hugely disappointing.
NEVER do we want our guests unhappy thus the immediate refund without discussion. The Waterfront cottage has NO HEAT and is listed as FIREPLACE on the website. MEMORIAL DAY can be warm and can also be temperatures in the 40's as was this Memorial Day Weekend evening and our cottage would have been cold. We do have a space heater in the master bedroom. We are a SEASONAL cottage which means we are weather dependant. Disappointing weather is not a VBRO justification for a refund thus the additional complaints, I'm not even commenting on the difficulty breathing statement for the girlfriend and the dog. HAD IT BEEN SUNNY AND WARM I WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED THIS REVIEW. I have multiple repeat renters for many years and the unit is as advertised. WE ALL WANT GREAT WEATHER. Please call me or email me should you want to discuss.
Phenomenal Beach and Log Cabin
This location is pretty amazing if you like water sports. The bay is fairly shallow, and a 6ft adult can walk out almost a mile into the exquisite Crystal Lake. We spent hours in the water just swimming and snorkeling the day away.
The location is hard to beat, with Platte River, Crystal River, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and so much more within 30 minutes. We brought a kayak with for adventures both in Crystal Lake and beyond.
The log cabin itself is very comfy for a party of 5. It feels private and exclusive, with a lovely fire pit located in the back yard. Proximity to Frankfort is excellent, what with some great restaurants and the awesome pier located in town. The owner is very responsive and very good to work with. We would absolutely rebook.
This is such a great location on Crystal Lake!!! Can't wait for an opportunity to return for another stay! Our family had such a nice week at the Waterfront Cabin! The owner was friendly and good to work with. We loved the private nature of the yard leading to the lake. It is nestled within trees along each side of the property so even though there are neighbors right next door you don't see them. All you see is the beauty of Crystal Lake. There is a nice sandy beach area and the water is so "crystal" clear. Gorgeous!!! We enjoyed their long dock and spent a lot of time kayaking on the lake. A really nice aspect of the dock is their swim deck which adds extra space for sitting out on the water and more hours of sunshine. This was an especially great spot for my 86 yr old mom to hang out and be close by the rest of us enjoying water activities. Loved how the yard had a couple little areas along the waterfront with table and chairs--cozy sitting spaces. We also enjoyed the screened-in porch and the comfortable adirondack chairs for peaceful, quiet evenings of just taking in the beauty. There is a nice fire pit with large stumps for seating around the fire. Enjoyed a fire most every night. There is a large wood pile along the back side of the cabin--very nice of the owners to provide this. NOTE! Be very aware and careful if you forage for kindling--there is poison ivy under the trees on the edges of the property. No problem though if you stay in the yard. The cabin is rustic but nice. Could use a bit more counter space in the kitchen. There is a handy and clever space / rods for hanging lots of beach towels on the back deck's privacy fence. We had a little issue on our arrival but the owner was very responsive and attended to it quickly. There is a very nice rails-to-trails bike path close to the property; one direction takes you in to Beulah and the other direction to Frankfort. Enjoyed having this close by to bike. Lake Michigan is only about 5 miles away with a short drive over to Frankfort. Doubt you'll find a better location on Crystal Lake!! We will definitely be back.
We loved the place! The owner quickly answered any questions we had and acted like a total professional. The place was spotless when we arrived. Great vacation!
The best of two worlds
It is a cute little rustic cabin which was very clean and cozy. You feel like you are in the middle of the woods ; yet
your only a minute away from beautiful Crystal Lake. Our dog Katie loved swimming and romping on the dock.
After along day in the sun, we enjoyed relaxing by the fire pit. The stores and the restaurants are close by in
Frankford, everything you would need. Looking forward to returning, great family retreat. Would recommend.
Huge potential, but a total let down! Literally made us sick!
We booked the log cabin for 8 nights 8/30/14-9/7/14. We arrived around 5:30 PM on 8/30 to find the cabin occupied by another family who told us they had rented the cabin until 8/31. Called owner and left voicemail to ask for assistance in figuring out how to resolve the issue. NO RESPONSE FROM HER! Fortunately the family agreed to vacate the property and move to the lake front home since they had that property rented for the following week and the previous occupants vacated early. We were able to get into the cabin around 8 PM.
Positives about the cabin:
-It is a good size and nicely laid out
-Stocked with the basic kitchen supplies you would need
-Bed is comfortable
Negatives about the cabin:
-It was filthy! The cleaning fee you are required to pay is obviously not being put to use!
-It is EXTREMELY musty and there is mold everywhere, especially in the bathroom. The shower curtain was covered in black mold.
-The site is advertised as pet friendly, but there is poison ivy everywhere! The occupants who were moving out warned us to keep our dog on a close leash or she'd easily get into poison ivy. Taking care of poison ivy is an easy fix, but clearly not attempted by owners.
-Less than 5 minutes of warm water for 1 shower
Due to the mustiness/mold we were unable to stay more that 2 nights. It was difficult to breathe and we were unable to sleep at night. By the second night our puppy was wheezing so we decided it was better for all of us to get out of there. I again called the owner to let her know and to see if we could negotiate a partial refund. We paid for 8 nights in advance (over $1800) and only stayed 2. NO RESPONSE FROM HER YET AGAIN. It has now been over 3 months since our awful experience with this property owner and she has failed to return our attempts to reach her. Home Away, the service that advertises her property through VRBO has also failed to assist.
We feel a responsibility to let other families know that this property isn't all it's cracked up to be. The owner will be responsive while she negotiates your contract and takes your money, but she will disappear the second you have a concern. We gave her every opportunity and ample time to respond to us. We understand that family emergencies or other issues can arise, so we were patient, but there is no excuse for failure to return a call for well over 3 months. It's too bad, because the property has potential!
