Guest Book Comments : 'Thank you for providing such a lovely spot for us to spend a week together. The lobster feast was wonderful--we had to take a rest between courses!! We biked Peak's Island (ferry from Portland, bike shop up road to left-easy rentals) and explored Wolf's Neck State Park (wonderful osprey sightings!!).. The Old Port in Portland is a good destination for shops and restaurants. The Royal River Grillhouse was great too!'
'We so enjoyed your beautiful home. The lobsters were delicious! One of our favorite spots was Christmas Cove.'
'Thanks for everything, we loved staying here!'
'We had a great week here. Went sailing on a windjammer from Portland--it was fantastic! The lobster feast was amazing! One of our favorite places was Boothbay Harbor. Thanks Joi & Lee, your house is lovely. Cheers!'
'Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous! And the lobster feast was absolutely STUPENDOUS! Thanks so much!'
'Thank you so much for a great stay. We had a great time exploring Portland'
For the kids...: For the kids there are two wonderful playgrounds in town as well as area attractions that include the Aquaboggan Water Park and Fun Town Splash Town USA in Saco Maine (about 45 minutes away). We also have many beautiful white sand beaches south of Portland that are about 40 minutes away. Other family favorites are the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray (35 minutes), the Desert of Maine in Freeport (20 minutes), and Sebago Lake State Park in Casco (45 minutes). The kids and adults will want to visit Eartha the world's largest globe which is right here in Yarmouth at Delorme Map Company headquarters. We also have a beautiful YMCA with two swimming pools and a great workout facility just 4 miles up the road. There is also a local movie theater nearby in Falmouth just 15 minutes away.
Things to do...: Enjoy a hike at one of four parks within a few minutes drive: Royal River Park, Winslow State Park, Hedgehog Mountain, Bradbury Mountain or Wolf Neck Woods. Take a course at LL Bean's adventure school in fly fishing or skeet shooting and check out their paddling center. It's all only a few miles away. We've compiled a complete list of local attractions and activities as well as wonderful local restaurants and will be happy to share our favorites with you.
Lee and I own a seafood shipping company called Maine Lobster Direct, so we love to spoil our guests with a fabulous lobster feast. We'll bring you the freshest Maine lobster right off the boat along with clams, chowders, shrimp--whatever you want.
I wanted to send you a note to tell you again what a wonderful time we had in Maine.
Your cottage is so welcoming and was lovely to come home to after our days out exploring.
As I mentioned, we only ate dinner out one night because it was actually more fun to relax "at home".
Please do keep us in mind if something opens up that is a small cottage on water.
In the meantime we will look forward to enjoying your place again before too long.
Our week at Tides Edge was perfect! Our family of four (two kids, ages 10 and 14) had plenty of room to relax in beautiful surroundings. From the manicured grounds to the beautifully selected art indoors, this cottage felt like a haven, the perfect place to relax and find creative inspiration. I spent so much time on the porch, just looking out of White's Cove and watching the waterfowl—an osprey was a frequent performer. With Portland and Freeport so close, we could delve into the touristy part of Maine while being able to escape the crowds. Joi was such a pleasure to work with, very responsive and welcoming. I hope we are able to return soon!
We spent a wonderful five days at this quaint cottage overlooking White's Cove and Cousins' Island. The cottage was impeccably furnished and maintained. Everything was as it should be: clean, comfortable, warm and lovely. The quintessential Maine coastal cottage. We absolutely felt at home, within minutes of our arrival. It was like we'd lived there forever. Joi and Lee were wonderful hosts, and made sure that everything was as it should be. We plan to come back many more times, to this peaceful slice of Maine life.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Tides Edge, and will be back again! The porch had big comfy chairs, so when the weather was uncooperative, we spent the afternoon reading and relaxing. The lobster feast was a real treat, and Joi was wonderful to work with. All in all, a great place to stay! My only issue was that there was no 2nd floor bathroom, so a middle of the night trip to the bathroom required navigating the stairs. The house had plenty of well placed night lights, though, so it wasn't really a problem. Just a heads up, though, for folks who might have a problem with stairs. The furnishings were comfortable, especially the beds, so it was a lovely, relaxing vacation.
My family and I planned to rent this house at the last minute for a few days in August. From the get-go, Joi was always so patient and accommodating and listened to our needs. Although our plans didn't go through, she continued to be a pleasure to work with. We will definitely recommend Joi and her rental to our friends and family. It's really nice to know that good people like Joi still exist in this industry.
This was our second stay at Tides Edge.
This charming home is clean and very well stocked.
The location is great...you and get to Freeport easily and Portland is only 20 minutes.
Lots to do in the area.
The Lobster Feast is amazing....a lot of delicious, fresh, Maine food!
We only have the highest praise!
This house and location is what Maine is all about. The sun porch was a place we all gathered to start and end our days there, including my 7 year old granddaughter. The peace and quiet after a day spent at beaches, touring light houses, and eating out was a joy.
Everything you needed for a vacation was provided, the house was very clean, good beds and to top it all off you are provided a lobster feast the is over the top.
This house and area allows you to see Maine in a different way than the bustle of southern Maine.
The Good Table Restaurant on Cape Elizabeth was our favorite place to eat, really good food and excellent service.
Bring your canoe or kayak and head out for a day on the water. Sit on the porch and watch snowy egrets and blue heron catching their dinner. Bike out to Cousin's Island and take the ferry over to Chebeague Island. Head up into town and check out the antique shops and cafes or just stroll down Main Street and get an ice cream. Our guests recommend the following activities: Go Clay Shooting at L.L. Bean in Freeport. It only costs $15.00 per person, no reservations needed. Hang-out at Sherman's Bookstore in Freeport. Take a 2 hour daysail with Windjammer Sails at Portland Schooner Company. Take the evening sunset cruise with Eagle Island Tours on Long Wharf in Portland. Have a night out at the Comedy Connection in the Old Port. Shop in the Old Port. Have dinner at the Sea Grill in the Old Port. Have lobster at the Dry Dock in the Old Port. Eat on the deck overlooking the boats at The Royal River Grillhouse only 3 minutes away. Get the best fish & chips at Bull Feeney's in Portland.
Golf: There are two public golf courses. Toddy Brook Golf Course is 8.34 miles away and Val Halla Golf and Recreation is 6.87 miles away.
Ski: Sunday River Ski Resort is 1 hour and 45 minutes away.
Sugarloaf USA is 2 hours away
