This was our first dream house for Ray and Myself. Deanie. Built the home from scratch, first experience, and I was GC. Was built help and love from family and friends....We love our home, beautiful landscaping that is my husbands passion, with veggie gardens too.
Highschool Sweethearts with our 2 children and 4 grandchildren. We love these mountains, the beauty, the wonder, fun, that they bring us, hope you do too.
Deanie Gunder purchased this cabin in 2003
We love the area of Franklin. Fell in love with the river, and that was all it took.
You have the feel and beauty of wood all around you, in a setting that is comfortable, peaceful, beautiful, fun, and outdoorsy all in one. Perfect for large parties. We have hosted an Industry Summit with 30 attendees, ending with old fashion cook out in back yard. It's not overly rustic or harsh - truly an experience our guests relay that is hard to explain. The home was built with help from so many family and friends literally coming up from Florida for 'work weekends'. Finish Interior was done by owner - deanie, brother new and one local carpenter - hours and hours of enjoying the hammering, staining, sanding. Loving it. Every Sunday - all day local people stopped by to 'see' this home being built. Just to say hello and ask about 'this house'. Local code office, and subs were all very helpful...it truly was like Indians from the past were watching and giving their blessings. It is a home. If you stay a weekend, or a week - it is your home, not just a rental for vacation - that's what makes our River Log Home so special. And it brought our beloved River Dog, to us, a beaten abused beautiful protective loving dog. If you stay in this home, it will be an experience. that's all I can say.
Hi Deanie, That's me in the white pants, my daughter in the red shirt beside me, my son-in-law in the black shirt and the other couple are his parents. They came over from Saluda, N.C. for a day and night.
As you can probably tell, we are standing in front of your garden with freshly picked cucumbers. They sure were good.
We have had such a wonderful time. Your home is beautiful. Everything we need is here. Besides your garden we love the river the best.
I certainly will recommend this home to everyone.
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, don't look any further...This is the place for you. My family and I visited here and it was absolutely awesome. My sister surprised us and came over for an evening with her family and there was plenty of room for all. As a cancer patient, this is just what the Dr. ordered. Sitting out on the patio enjoying the remarkable weather, to relaxing in the hammock watching the kids catch fish!! We have not rented a home like this before and we were wonderfully surprised. The pictures don't do the house justice. You need to experience it. We were there for 4 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. Don't short change yourself when looking for a home away from home. The decor of the home is indescribable. It was absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to go back. There is plenty of room in the front of the house for the kids to run around and play. Some of my smaller nieces and nephews were flying kites on the yard.... We even had a whiffle ball game in the front yard. Plenty of space for any outdoor activity that you would like to partake in. I would absolutely suggest for families of all sizes and ages. The location is perfect.... Close to town, Gem Mining, incredible waterfalls. If you are an outdoors person, this is the place for you. If you are looking for relaxing and a quite getaway, this is the place for you. Just looking for a great place to stay where you get way more for your money.... THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!!
House is absolutely beautiful, more beautiful in person. We took 10 7/8 yr old SB players to house while in town for SB tournament. Kids fished, ran and played. We cooked and fed team and families. Great experience and memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for everything.
This is a perfect rental for a family and ours had a wonderful time! We hope to visit again real soon!
This was out first time using Homeaway to find a nice place to visit and I am thankful that it’s here. We would have never found this gem of a cabin without it.
The pictures just can’t say enough about this place. I’m not going to list all the things about it, but if you look at the pictures…it is exactly like that. They keep the place up very well and stock it with everything that you would need.
We took advantage of as many things that we could in the 5 days that we were there. We went gem mining at the Cherokee Mines (make sure you make it a day trip and bring sunblock/snacks or lunch), canoeing (the house has 2 canoes and a kayak), fishing EVERY morning and then went up to Gatlinburg, TN to hit up the Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant. Gatlinburg is about 60 miles north of the cabin, but is one of the most beautiful drives you can take. It goes right through the heart of the Smoky Mountain National Park and there are pull offs for awesome pictures. Make sure your maintenance is up because that drive is STEEP in spots, both up and down to and from Gatlinburg. On the way up, you can check out some authentic Native American sites and fun in Cherokee, NC as you pass right through it to the mountains.
The house has a garden in all around with beans, corn, tomatoes and such. The little pasture near the house has cows in it that my kids absolutely LOVED to feed and pet (through the fence). The river was nice and slow, but I was told it speeds up after a good rain/thaw by the little store on the road. The fish generally hit better on nice shiny spinners and minnows but my wife caught a decent one with a jig and small fake green worm (figures she would catch the biggest one).
Deanie was one of the most down to earth people you will find. We actually only rented the place for 4 days and called her the last night and asked to stay an additional day and she said it was no problem and made arrangements for us. We never even had to call her otherwise because everything that we needed was there. They really have it setup for relaxation. All the movie channels to relax at night inside if you want to, or a hammock, swing, and tables/chairs outside if you want to enjoy the evening by the firepit.
There was only one thing that I was bummed about when we got there…the waterfall shower. Please get that back up and running Deanie =) I soo wanted to take a shower in that.
Deanie, thank you and we will definitely be calling you again!
I spent much computer time seeking a place to spend our 50th Anniversary with our married children and grandchildren. River Log Home had the space and amenities we needed. The actual place was as pictured. The cleaning crew could have done a better job. The customer service provided by the owner was excellent. In fact, considering a little "canoe snafu" caused by us, the owner went beyond service and "bailed" us out. While we did not spend a lot of time with local attractions and etc. there seemed to be plenty to do. I would say that this home would be good for anytime of the year vacations. I would recommend the home to anyone.
Our family spent Christmas in this lovely house. The kitchen is nice and big and we had no trouble making a wonderful dinner, with all the trimmings. My favorite place was the loft. The view was great! A great place to sneak away for a game of pool, or foosball, or just to relax and enjoy 'being'.
It was nice to have the owner's brother nearby to check on us and answer our questions. He was very helpful and friendly. He made sure we had plenty of firewood for the marvelous fireplace...
The house is gorgeous, and great for entertaining.
Thanks, Deanie and family for allowing us to share your wonderful house!
