English Architect working in London, went to Jamaica saw Sea Mist Villa, fell in love and brought it. Now a great place for family holidays.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2002
Stayed at a friends villa next door, woke up in the morning looked over onto the beach and could not resist buying one for myself
Utter peace and tranquility while enjoying authentic Jamaican life style, being treated as a local not a tourist, truly a unique experience.
We had a fantastic time at Sea Mist and forged quick friendships with both Jasmine and Ashley who were helpful and polite. On arrival to the villa we found it clean and welcoming. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each night we fell asleep to the sound of the sea (so relaxing). We enjoyed the meals with fresh produce cooked by Jasmine and felt very safe during the evenings thanks to Ashley. We can’t wait to return to Jamaica and the local beach which is a stone’s throw away and watch the waves come in against the shore. If you would like something different it is worth trying the villa route. It was a great experience and one to be repeated.
My stay at the Sea Mist was EXTREMELY POOR. We had the place rented from Aug 15th - Aug 18th because we were attending a wedding over in Silver Sands Villas. We arrived on the Friday and at first glance our opinion was "A little dated but it looked clean and cozy". Later that night our travel bag was covered in ants (come to find out it was because of a Halls candy that was in there). Jasmine cooked dinner for us and left for the night. When I came back and went into the kitchen I came across some visitors ***ROACHES***(I took pictures and video as proof) crawling all over the stove and the dish tray. At this point we were not impressed but I found some bug spray and sprayed all the ants and roaches (the ones that I was able to catch). We complained to Ashley (the grounds keeper) of a smell that was coming from the back room off the kitchen and he cleared it out to find out where it was coming from (smelled like a dead animal). Next day our housekeeper didn't arrive until 11am to make breakfast. Now one of the four people staying there is diabetic so we had to get him something to eat in the morning so my husband and I went to the market not too far away. At this point it's Saturday the day of the wedding. Jasmine arrived and made brunch for everyone and we told her about the roaches, she was very apologetic and even used the same bug spray I found the day we arrived and sprayed the kitchen, re-washed all the dishes and cutlery. Sunday morning comes and we go in the kitchen to make something to eat until Jasmine arrives and we find that something (as in a RAT) ate through our bag of bread that was left on the table the night before. At this point we've had enough and decide to leave instead of staying until Monday (which was when we paid up until). I went to the office to complain about our stay and to give them a run down of all the incidents. I spoke to Lola and she said that it's her day off but she'll come in away. She arrived within the hour and Jasmine (housekeeper) and I gave her a recap of everything that happened and told her we are leaving a day early. She said that we would need to speak with the booking manager on Monday. Long story short he was NOT will to do anything about it. Since then I sent an email to the owner letting him know of our experience and to this day I have not received a response. I guess our experience doesn't matter to them.
We've just returned from Sea Mist and miss our Jamaica friends already. When I planned this vacation with my son (16), nephew (17), and good friend, I simply hoped the location, weather, and water would be everything I dreamed about. Let me be clear when I say, we left Jamaica realizing we'd just had the best vacation EVER. I opted to avoid the resorts since I wanted to really experience Jamaica and I was not disappointed. The description of the house was accurate, the comments previously posted about the location were accurate, and the wonderful things said about Ashley and Jasmine were true. We were made to feel so welcome and forged a friendship that I hope continues until we visit again. My teenagers learned so much about the culture and walked away with a once in a lifetime experience they will never forget. We utilized Joe Brown for our excursion days (insist on Blue Hole!!) and for our transportation to the airport, and loved him. You couldn't ask for a better guide. If partying with your friends, and sipping drinks at a swim up bar is your goal for a vacation, bring them, and go to a resort. If you want to escape the crowds and truly relax, then make the journey to this corner of the world and enjoy the experience. You won't find fast food restaurants but you WILL find local fare prepared by genuine people willing to share their culture (Juliet's and Leroy's). After being at the Sea Mist for 6 days, I felt sorry for all the people who are locked behind the gates of the all-inclusives, or port on a ship, and only see the "packaged" version of the island instead of the Jamaica we got to experience. I prepared for my trip by reading all the reviews, asking Damon (owner) questions, and educating myself on the Duncan area. Once we got there, Ashley and Jasmine were more than helpful in planning and helping us out with ideas on food and what to do. Ashley cooked jerk chicken and fish for us, and we were blown away with how fantastic the food was all week. Damon, you have a great staff and I'm so appreciative they were there to get to know. Thank you for sharing your home with us, we will never forget it and plan to return!!!
Other than the fact of the warmth, sand and ocean, Sea Mist felt just like home. Ashley and Jasmine are very welcoming and wonderful hosts, friends, cooks, tour guides - you name it. My wife's and I stay here was our second. The villa itself is lovely and clean. The beach is beautiful and not crowded. The community friendly and the owner is very easy to deal with. Thanks again Damon.
Sea Mist is a lovely villa in a dreamy location. Its proximity to the beach makes it an ideal place to swim, walk and chat it up with the warm and engaging locals. The villa was everything we hoped for and is beautifully maintained, both inside and out. We enjoyed our local hosts, Ashley and Jasmine, immensely! They made many wonderful contributions to our time at Sea Mist! Jasmine is a great cook and was remarkable at keeping things tidy; and Ashley became a trusted friend and companion during our time in Jamaica! We had a great time on a day trip orchestrated by Ashley, and visited the "fire waters" on his recommendation; it was phenomenal! The entire vacation at Sea Mist was a wonderful time! Highly recommended!
This three bedroom, three bath home is literally next to the beach. These photos are accurate but they don't really begin to describe how fantastic the beach is. It's long, it's wide, it's clean and most of the eight days we were there, it was sparsely attended.
Our three kids enjoyed the beach immensely and though it's not one of those beaches where you can walk out forever, it's everything you could want in a Caribbean vacation beach including tide-pools, rocks, great local people, and tranquility--we saw maybe three speedboats and two planes the entire vacation and not one jet ski.
The house was more than comfortable and spacious for our family of five and Jasmine, the new cook and housekeeper at Sea Mist, was kind, generous, knowledgeable, and a brilliant cook. She went above and beyond to make us comfortable and well fed.
We can't say enough about Ashley and his contribution to making sure our trip was wonderful. Every day he helped us arrange memory making excursions around the Island and around Duncans. He was generous, thoughtful, enterprising and kind. And yes, his Jerk Chicken is divine.
The same can be said for Joe Brown, our knowledgeable, kind driver to and from the airport and on our outings of a few hours to all day trips. Ashley, Jasmine and Joe treated us like family and made our vacation stay easy, enormously fun and worry-free.
Staying at Sea Mist, we felt we got to know a bit of the real Jamaica and it was an experience we would look forward to having again and again.
