Thurlestone is an idyllic Devon village crammed with pretty thatched cottages. The village takes its name from the ‘thirled stone’, an arched rock formation in the Thurlestone Bay. It is ideally situated to explore all that the stunning South Hams has to offer.
There are plenty of beaches nearby to choose from. Thurlestone, Yarmer and South Milton Sands are all within reasonable walking distance and boast wide sandy bays ideal for families. A little further afield is Leasfoot, a smaller beach with fine shingle sand, whilst the fabulous sandy beaches of Bantham and Bigbury on Sea are a short drive and offer a range of watersports for the more adventurous.
Kingsbridge is a bustling and friendly market town a few miles away, which has regular activities such as farmers markets and concerts in the summer. It has all the amenities you would expect from a market town including a couple of large supermarkets as well as a range of local shops including bakeries, delicatessen, butchers as well as clothes and gift shops. From here, you can take a wildlife cruise or hop on a ferry to Devon’s most southerly town, Salcombe, for crabbing, fishing trips, watersports, some retail therapy or a lovely ‘catch of the day’ pub lunch.
