We had this house built 20 years ago. It has run beautifully on solar and wind with a back-up generator since it was built with never a power outage.
Susan and Ray Wolfe purchased this house in 1994
Spectacular Views, Serenity, Silence in a Pristine Location yet close to town
We are often surrounded by the large elk herd that will bed down for the night within a few feet of the house. We enjoy the birds and the bunnies here also.
Heaven on Earth
We had a fabulous time at Susan and Ray's place. We could sit and watch the clouds/storms go across Pikes Peak all day long. A great show! Thank you so much Susan and Ray. Happy Holidays.
Wonderful, wonderful setting and nicely appointment home. On site owners were non obtrusive and very pleasant hosts. Stellar location, very private! We would stay again!
We have two small daughters 4 and 7 and stayed for one week in this lovely home. This place could not have been any more peaceful and perfect for our family. If you need to disconnect from the world and unwind then we highly recommend this home. We did local hikes during the day and had so much fun exploring the property. We enjoyed watching the wild Elk, rabbits, humming birds, and deer in the backyard! We did the Crag hike and also took the Cogg Railway up to Pikes Peak. This home was tucked away from everything but still with great access to Colorado Spring attractions. We will always remember this as one of our most fun and relaxing family vacations. Thanks Susan and Ray!
My husband and I were traveling with our 3 year old son, and we wanted to spend a few days "unplugged" and connected to nature. Although there IS wifi there, you won't feel the need to be on your device very much at all. The house has everything you need and is uniquely charming- we also had more than enough space, and could have easily have had other guests over (and in fact did for dinner one night). The views from every room in this house are just spectacular, and I really loved that it felt like we had this view all to ourselves. There were tons of other resort towns that we looked at, but staying at a condo with hundreds of other units, just didn't feel like the special mountain experience we were looking for. This place is truly secluded (you think you're lost driving out there), but it just makes it that much more of a special experience. We did the hike out to the reservoir, and it was TOTALLY worth it and our toddler handled it surprisingly well (although we had to carry him back uphill on the return trip when he got tired). The reservoir is gorgeous with tons of more traveled trails around it, along the river rapids leading into it, and through the woods surrounding it. I wish we would have spent all day down there but we forgot to pack a lunch. The trail from the house to the reservoir is very faint and hard to follow at times, so be sure to make note of landmarks and take a compass if possible to avoid getting lost. It's not far, but it can be a little nerve racking making the walk for the first time.
Ray and Susan were wonderful hosts that were there if you needed them, and provided lots of excellent information about the house, things to do in the area, and where to shop. Response times were exceptionally quick anytime i had a question leading up to our trip.
Small notes: the beds are very comfortable, water pressure great (the tub was awesome!), we kept the doors open most the time and it was always a comfortable temperature inside, and the entire house was very clean and well maintained. We constantly spotted lots of song birds and elk, and at night, the place is exceptionally quiet and still with great stargazing.
overall- we won't be staying anywhere else.
We had a wonderful experience. The view was magical and the owners were very friendly. We plan to go back there again.
Just one look at the pictures of Pikes Peak and the surrounding area will give you a good idea of just how beautiful the property is. We found the home to be more than imagined; the kitchen area provides all the equipment for your meal preparation and the interior dining areas have amazing views. Bed and bath areas were more than adequate (yes, the house is "off the grid" but we had no problems with the solar and wind generated electricity and the water pressure!) We chose to utilize the outdoor grill for several of our meals and spent a great deal of time out on the deck enjoying the outdoors! Since our intent was to relax and recharge we did not partake of the numerous activities available in the area, but rest assured there is something for everyone of every age to enjoy. The owners, Susan and Ray, were very accommodating and made our stay enjoyable. They are very knowledgeable of the area are can provide ideas and information to enhance your stay. We can't thank them enough for their hospitality. On a final note, be sure to go outside after dark; you will be amazed at how many stars are in that sky!
