About the property

Moonswept was named one of the Top 5 New Caribbean Villas of 2008 by Caribbean Way Canada Magazine. The villa is owned by two New York City musicians, Garry Dial and Terre Roche. We are very fortunate to report Moonswept sustained minimal damage during Hurricanes Irma and Maria and we're taking reservations for all dates after April 1,2018. No power outages due to the addition of Tesla batteries and solar panels!

You can visit our website for more information.

Moonswept is a picturesque retreat, high above the turquoise waters of the Caribbean with its scattering of islands, splendid in the morning sun and magical in the moonlight. The villa is a spacious getaway as far from the madding crowd as one could be, with the luxury of a villa and the serenity and natural beauty of an enchanted island.

When you enter the front door the high vaulted ceiling is a grand dome over the kitchen area, not unlike the sky itself. You're inside, but you're not cramped. Almost immediately you are called toward the Great Room by the most spectacular view of the sea through huge windows that give a sweeping vista of your surroundings. You'll want to stop and experience this moment fully. Many of our guests have remarked that the photographs on the website don't begin to evoke the feeling that comes with being at Moonswept.

The villa has plenty of cozy spaces in which to congregate, yet you'll never feel confined. The colors, the artwork on the walls, the furniture and all of the small details of design are elements mindfully added over time to maintain an environment in which each visitor can feel at home.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all of the modern conveniences. There are two equal-sized bedrooms, each with a large screen TV, two spacious bathrooms, laundry facilities, a large screen TV in the Great Room sitting area, a wine cooler and Wi-Fi throughout the house. If you feel like eating indoors, you can sit at the great Basque-style dining table in the center of the villa and watch the moods of the sea and sky changing moment to moment.

Out on the pool deck you'll sit under the awning in the shade and enjoy meals at the dining table, or soak up the sun's rays on the deck chairs by the pool in a completely private environment. There's a hot tub for soothing the tired muscles that we all seem to bring along with us. This is a great place from which to watch the night sky with it's stars, moon, satellites and comets inviting your mind to expand outward and reconnect with your true nature.

We sincerely hope that you can experience the beauty of the island of St. John through the wonder of Moonswept Villa and bring back with you some of her inspiration and serenity.

Four-wheel drive vehicle required.

About Terre Roche

We are two New York City musicians. When we arrive at Moonswept we exhale. It is the most exhilerating exhale we've ever experienced!

Why Terre Roche chose Coral Bay

We never dreamed of buying a house in St. John. Through a series of magical events, we visited the island, performed some shows there, bought the land and a dear friend of ours helped build the villa.

What makes this house unique

Unlike any other place we've ever been, Moonswept has a powerful effect on the soul, healing the wounds of stress and empowering us to return to our work lives in New York City.

Wonderful stay with the family on St. John

  • 5 of 5

Our family with a 9 year old and a 4 year old had a perfect stay at Moonswept. The views are amazing and while the pictures that are available on travel sites are excellent, nothing does justice to the breathtaking scene offered by the well designed house. The house is very well appointed with everything that we could have wanted, even down to a fresh coffee pack for the first morning. Emily and Anthony do a terrific job preparing the house and we could not have been happier.

St John is a wonderful island and a very quiet place to get away. We greatly enjoyed the various beaches we could explore as there are different features in several of them. From the snorkel tour at Trunk Bay, the turtles at Maho Bay, the crazy drive to Little Lameshur (don't even think about going without a jeep), they were all terrific with different charms.

We have been to many places but this was far and away the one trip that everyone knew we must repeat. Thanks for everything

Fabulous Trip

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had a terrific stay in this wonderful villa. The views are instantly transformative and the house is well cared for with everything you might want. St John is a great place for exploration as well.

Believe the need for a 4 wheel drive, I almost didn't and it would have been a mistake. The climb to the house is more than worth it however and the drive up and down to get to the house is really not a big deal after the initial drive up.

Emily and Anthony do a wonderful job having things prepped and ready. We really appreciate their help and guidance when we asked for it.

Thank you for a great stay, this is a special place.

absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 12 gorgeous days at Moonswept Villa. From the time that we turned right on Calabash Boom until our departure and final descent down the hill to go to the airport, we were completely "WOW'ed by everything about the villa and the Island of St. John.

The way up to the Villa is quite the eye openner - you really do need a JEEP here!

The property managers, Emily and Anthony, super nice and were quick to respond if we needed anything or any questions.

The house is well outfitted, the beds very comfortable, and the pool and whirlpool a real treat. Another plus point is that due to the villa being so high on the hill, we enjoyed our evenings outside without being bothered by mosquitos or no-see-ums.

....and of course the view is bombastic! You have to see it to believe it!

Wonderful 2nd visit to Moonswept

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit with our 2 sons (age 7 and 9) to this villa. We stayed 7 nights and enjoyed every minute. From the breathtaking views, fully equipped kitchen, availability of beach chairs/towels/coolers, enjoyable pool area to wonderfully comfortable beds! The villa was very clean on our arrival and very well maintained both inside and out. Would highly recommend this villa to families with young children.

Serenity and Seclusion!

  • 5 of 5

This place is quiet, secluded and very very private. We are a family of 5 with kids age 8, 9, and 11. They loved it. The pool was of course their favorite along with some of the beaches - which is a testament to how unbelievably nice the pool area is. It's 5 feet deep all around but there is a step along the view side which was a nice surprise for the kids.

Emily and Anthony are a quick text away with any questions or recommendations. They are both very professional, polite and take your privacy very seriously. Although they live below on the ground level walkout, you really feel like you are alone on top of the most beautiful mountain in the entire Caribbean. The landscaping around the pool area is done in regards to both aesthetics and privacy, and the view out the window wall and the pool deck is of course beyond description. It faces the E SE so the sunrises are impressive.

Kitchen is well appointed for home cooking and the grill was more than adequate for our steaks one night. Although the floorplan is pretty modest, the house feels roomy thanks to the cathedral ceilings and up lighting which the photos don't portray well enough.

We'd love to return to St. John for a second time - our only problem is whether to explore other villas and risk it, or go with a sure bet that's worth the money and stay at Moonswept again. I have a feeling we will be back again.

A Secret Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Poised on Calabash, just south of Coral Bay, Moonswept opens you to a view of a rare perfection, a harmony of earth, sky & sea from its perch: splendidly appointed and tasteful, the villa affords peaceful re-creation for mainland weary travelers, with the delights of snorkeling, swimming the south point beaches and convenient dining pleasures of the harbor below. We particularly enjoyed dining at Ms. Lucy's Kitchen, just down the road, Indigo in Coral Bay. Finding the profound peacefulness a great counterpoint to our busy lives stateside, we fell into the slower island rhythms and St. John's culture, and do look forward to coming back to Moonswept, which is just as magical under the moonless starlit nights of our time of visiting! Special thanks to Emily & Anthony, and of course to Terre & Gary for your vision and work that made Moonswept a realty and allowing us to share your very special place!

St. John is a quiet and pristine haven mainly consisting of a State Park. It is known for having the most beautiful beaches in the world. Hiking, snorkeling, diving, swimming and boating are among the many activities for vacationers. It's restaurants are great, as it attracts many top chefs. There are a myriad of opportunities to dine outside on the beach, high above overlooking the state park and the ocean. You'll have to stop your car to wait as donkeys, goats, sheep, horses, cows and chickens cross the road. There are small boutique shopping areas where you will be able to find treasures to bring home. Opportunities abound for having massages, catered meals and sunset sails among the islands. Our caretaker, Dave, is a long-time island native and a really great guy! He can direct you toward many hidden treasures among the day trip offerings. In the house there are books about the history of the island that you can read as you take in the breathtaking view of the sea.
