The Friedman Family Stay August 8, 2009
The home was clean and as described in the posting. We came with three families, six adults, and eight children ranging from 10 to 16 years old. The adult couples each had their own bedroom, while the kids completely took over the lower level walkout sleeping downstairs every night. We rented a pontoon boat from Mullet Lake marina- picked up the boat and brought it down the river and docked it at the home. We grabbed our entire crew and took the boat back to Mullet Lake where we pulled the kids around on a two person tube. The river access and overall boating experience was fantastic. The home is also about 20 minutes away from the big boats that take you to Mackinac Island where we brought our own bikes to ride the perimeter of the island and spend the day dining and shopping. The home is also 15 minutes away from Cheboygan country club where we enjoyed a round of inexpensive golf on a pretty nice course. Mackinaw City is 25 minutes away with plenty of dining. We also visited Petosky and Charlivoix where we biked and dined while following the bike trail in Petosky to Petosky State park and a beautiful beach. Headed up to the UP and visited Ozwalds Bear Ranch where we viewed 30 brown bears on our way up to Lake Superior. In the evenings back at the home, the kids spent much time in the lower level walkout playing games, laughing, and having fun. We BBQ'd on the back patio in the evening, cooked huge breakfasts in the mornings, played music throughout! The Property Manager was friendly as were the neighbors next door, even lending us butter on our first day. Overall, a wonderful experience! Thanks, Joe!! And thanks for a quick check back refunding our security deposit!!
This was a great place for 2 families with a lot of kids. We had 4 adults and 7 children. We really were only there in the morning and evening. It was a nice location to easily visit many areas (Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, etc., Ste. St. Marie). This was 5 stars for us and here is why:
THE WALKOUT BASEMENT - otherwise known as the kid cave. Six children made themselves at home down there. There was a king size bed and queen pull out sofa, love seat, tv and half bath.
KITCHEN - Fully stocked with just about every appliance/cooking utensil you could need. We did have to buy a bottle of dish soap as they were out, but everything else was there. There was no food obviously, but there were many staples such as salt, pepper, seasonings, etc.
WASHER/DRYER - 7 children, enough said :-)
GRILL and FIRE PIT - The patio had a huge table and lovely view. The kids enjoyed evening s'mores.
THE OWNERS - Joe was fantastic to work with and very accommodating! They promptly refunded our security deposit when our stay was over.
If you decide this rental is for you, here are a few things to know:
- This home is the only rental in a quiet neighborhood. If you have a rowdy bunch, this may not be for you.
- The home was clean and things in working order, but it is a bit of a time capsule.
-There is no air conditioning. This was not a problem for us. We opened the windows and had a nice cool breeze. There were plenty of fans available (we did not need to use these).
- If you have very small children be aware that the property goes right up to the river with no barrier or fence. This was not a problem for us. We had a 2 year old with us and just kept a close eye out. It is also not a good place to swim as the current is strong.
Overall, this place suited our needs!!
Place was clean and as advertised, very nice..could have had a larger dining area to accomodate 12 at once, but was not really a problem, we had 8 at one table and 4 at another..nearby. River access is superb, lots of things to do and the home is large enough so every one is not tripping over one another.
we cruised the inland waterway and boated out to Mackinaw Island, wonderful.
Did not use the local restaurants, this was a family time and we enjoyed all of our meals at the house, each family responsible for certain days...worked for us
Again home was clean and well prepared, equipped for everything, the outdoor fire pit hosted smore parties and worked fantastic..could not keep the grandkids from feeding the ducks..I think many of them have names now.
also some of our group rode the rails to trails path to indian river, nice facility
I am not sure where to start! First and foremost Tina is such a sweetie!!! She was so very nice and helpful and it was the best for you to have her there to help with our wedding on the 4th of July. We had requested our small number of guests to please stay out of the house. The first person that walked in I thought "oh no"! Tina, stepped right up and helped saying she would handle it for me. I laughed and walked away to get dressed for the wedding. We had no problems from that minute forward to my knowledge. We did all we could to respect your place having extra people on the property. Tina was a great help in this regard and handled it in such a friendly manner. I appreciate the experience so very much!! What a beautiful house you have and thank you so very much for trusting us. I grew up with a summer cottage in the Les Cheneanx islands and have always had a warm fuzzy feeling for the north. My husband was born and lived in Cheboygan for awhile. We went on our first vacation almost 12 yrs ago in Cheboygan and am so happy we were able to go back and wed there. It was extremely special and your place is absolutely everything I had hoped it would be. The house is spacious and so well equipped that all you need to pack is a suitcase. We enjoyed boating the remainder of the week. This is another feature for this property that makes it such a great place to be. Plenty of room for boats to tie to without worry of damage and a great place in the river. We had a such a wonderful time and thank you so very much for the bottle of champagne too. It was certainly an unexpected treat. We want to come back and visit your place again very much! We have several friends and family in the area and your location and accommodations are out of this world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!!
