Fabulous home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 9 days at Urris Hillside Cottage and were so sad to leave. We have rented homes in several areas of Ireland and this one was certainly a favorite. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, and we were able to just unpack and relax. The kitchen in particular provided virtually everything we needed for self-catering purposes, allowing us to have several "real" meals at our adopted home. We loved having a roaring peat fire every evening and were grateful for hot showers with good water pressure after a restful night's sleep in the absolute quiet of the area. There were only 2 of us in the cottage, but the space would be very comfortable for several couples or a family of 6 or 8.

The Inishowen area is spectacularly scenic, and this cottage's location is no exception. We enjoyed beautiful views from every angle, either looking out the cottage window or driving through the farmland. We had an amazing dinner at the Rusty Nail and enjoyed meals in Buncrana at Oscar's and Ubiquitous as well as other spots around the peninsula. We spent 2 days sightseeing in Northern Ireland (which is easily doable by ferry although that didn't fit with our particular needs - we will try it next time) and also visited local attractions including Fort Dunree, Malin Head, Grianan Aileach and Glenevin waterfall. All were easily accessible and well worth visiting. We also ventured further west to Glenveagh National Park, and all of these adventures allowed us to enjoy even more of the glorious countryside and its many delightful features such as birds, ruins, shrines and of course plentiful livestock and scenic vistas.

Making the arrangements for our stay was simple and straight-forward with excellent communication from the owners. They offered plenty of helpful information both before our visit and at the cottage itself. They obviously take great pride in and care of their wonderful property. We are grateful to benefit from their generosity in sharing the cottage with visitors. We definitely recommend Urris Hillside Cottage and will not hesitate to book it again if we are in the area. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Loved the peaceful views all round and the quick ride into Buncrana for supplies was great. Highly recommend dinner at the "Rusty Nail" -- it was delicious! We'd love to come back someday, the house is perfect for a family.

Wonderful cottage, great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to write this review because we don't want to give away our secret of this wonderful place! We had a marvelous time. The cottage is the perfect accommodation -- all the things you need like a kitchen with all the utensils and cookware you need, laundry with supplies, fireplace with peat, etc. The communication with the owner could not have been better. You definitely need a rental car here but if you want to go into town at night and plan to have a few pints you can easily get a cab. The scenery is like nothing we've ever seen. We walked every day and just relaxed, which is how a holiday should be. There is plenty of room here and we can't wait to return. There was also wi-fi and TV with satellite as well as a DVD collection, radio, etc. There are a lot of sights to see all within a short driving distance. I highly recommend this cottage as the perfect homebase for exploring, hiking, and resting. Thank you!

Picture Perfect Home!

  • 5 of 5

This stunning little home was just what we were looking for: quiet, secluded yet close to the town, with access to uncrowded beaches. Our family of six stayed in this home for two months and there was ample room for all of us! The scenery surrounding this home was just gorgeous: completely green and full of sheep. Coming from overcrowded Los Angeles, we could have moved into this home. It was clean, well-maintained and the Kleins were always available to answer questions. Loved our stay!

A very comfortable and well-furnished cottage with beautiful views. The owners are very helpful, and the property was in excellent condition. There are good walks nearby as well as beaches. The town of Buncrana is not very far away and has a very helpful tourist office as well as stores and restaurants.
