I am working for an NGO that requires I spend time in Geneva, so am often out of New York.
Tom Watkins purchased this apartment in 1982
Because it is in a great location from which the city's attractions are easily accessible -- steps off FifthAvenue between Flatiron, just to the south; Murray Hill, a block to the east; and Midtown, whose southern tip begins four blocks to the north. It's in the center of the Persian rug district, two blocks south of Korea Town and four blocks north of Madison Square Park.
A clean, quiet, calm, orderly and safe place of refuge that is within walking distance of many of New York's attractions.
Place was comfortable, clean and welcoming. Perfect location to explore all of Manhattan and feel safe coming home late at night. Just remember to practice your stair climbing before you go as we were on top 4th floor. We'd love to come back here again.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. I was in town for a conference, and Tom's apartment was four blocks from the conference venue and 7-8 blocks from Penn station. There are food, restaurants, and shopping all around. The Empire State Building is four blocks away.
It is in an older building, but when I unlocked the apartment door, I smelled Lysol, which told me it had been cleaned! This apartment was a lovely place to stay, comfortable, clean, and convenient to everything. Soap and shampoo are provided, hair dryer and curling iron. There is plenty of closet and drawer space. It is neither new nor modern, but it has more space than a hotel room, lots of character--did I mention it was CLEAN--and the bed was awesomely comfortable (a Tempurpedic, or some such)! The kitchen is tiny but has everything necessary. Had there been an elevator, I'd have given it five stars. It was a pain getting up and down the narrow stairwell with luggage. Tom responded quickly when I asked for directions to turn on the shower. My suggestion is to laminate the directions and stick them on the bathroom wall. It was surprisingly quiet during the night, but construction on the corner started around 7 a.m. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll try to stay here again! Thanks, Tom, for your hospitality.
This apartment was perfect for our recent stay in NYC. There were three of us staying and there was plenty of space for us. We used the bed and the provided blow-up mattress and it was all ideal. The apartment was clean and well organized. The owner provided detailed information to help us get acquainted with the apartment and neighborhood, so we knew what to expect before arriving.
The apartment is located near a lot of fun stuff, like Koreatown, the Empire State Building and Union Square park. It is also an easy walk to a couple of different subway stops, which made our adventures so easy. It's only two stops from Times Square!
It is a fourth-floor walk-up, so the only thing to consider is if you have health or mobility concerns. Apart from that, there's no reason not to stay here! It's a wonderful, well kept place in the heart of an amazing city.
An amazing choice! I stayed here with my daughter and wife in August. We were out and about for most of the day but coming home was very pleasant. The apartment is close to everything and Tom does an amazing job describing points of interest around the apartment. We certainly recommend this place.
If you can walk four flights of stairs, look nowhere else. Tom is a first-class considerate host and so quick to respond for any questions you may have. The building was very quiet and located near everywhere you need to go in NYC. My two teenage kids and I felt so fortunate to stay at Tom's apartment. It was absolutely incredible. The queen size bed was so very comfortable for us girls and the quality twin air mattress was perfect for my son and he is 6'2". Big frig, gas stove and all the accoutrements you need to cook with a huge grocery within a couple of minutes walking distance. Clean, lots of towels, cold A/C, standing fan (if you don't like A/C), big TV and WiFi. I cannot overemphasize how great the location of this apartment is. It was such a wonderful experience to stay in a NYC apartment that was roomy, homey and comfortable. It was an experience we will never forget. My only problem now is my kids want to move to NYC!
We all had a fantastic time. Tom his attention to detail is the best. Everything was wonderful. The AC worked great which was a great plus since there was a heatwave this week. The beds, pillows and sheets were nice and clean. We would love to stay here again next time we visit New York. We highly recommend this place.
Walk to the lights of Times Square, the clubs of Greenwich Village, the restaurants of the Flatiron District, the galleries of Chelsea.
