I have stayed at Folly Beach 6 times, (Hilton Head 3 times, Sullivan's island once), and I must say that this is the best beach rental I have ever had. Folly Beach is by far the most reasonable of the Charleston area beaches. With about a 20 minute drive to Charleston, is is possible to enjoy the beach during the day, and still shop and enjoy Charleston restaurants in the late afternoon and evening. I rented this house for myself and 5 high school friends. As "women of a certain age, " we tend to be very particular about our surroundings. This property did not disappoint!!
This house is on the quieter end of the island (at least in Mid may), and about 1.2 miles from the center of town, and about 2/10 mile from the County Park. It is the first time I have stayed at this end, and I have to say it is the prettier end of the Island.
This 5 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath house is well appointed. Tree of the bedrooms have a private bath; two share a "Jack and Jill" bathroom (a private entrance from each bedroom). All of the bedrooms are quite large; 3 have queen beds, 1, a king, and 1 has 4 single beds. The laundry is on the second floor (as are 4 of the bedrooms). The large kitchen/dining area has all the necessary appliances and utensils (2 coffee makers, a microwave, oven, and the necessary beach blenders!). The living room is large, overlooks the large back deck and private boardwalk to the ocean.
The owners are easy to deal with and communicate well with prospective renters.
The only note I have for renters is that you need to bring your own beach towels, and beach chairs (although there were several serviceable beach chairs when we were there that had been left by previous renters). Also, bring some soap. Although each bath had some liquid soap at the sink, there was no soap or gel for the tubs and showers. This may have been a one time oversight, and in NO way detracted from our enjoyment of this beautiful home!
I would definitely rent it again. It is an A+ property.
I can't say enough nice things about Pelican House and its owners. The photos don't do it justice. It's much larger than we expected - - everyone had their own space - - we were not on top of each other. The setting is amazing. We couldn't be more pleased. The house and property is well maintained with a spacious area under the living space with a ping pong table and a huge deck for viewing the ocean. The dune area was beautifully landscaped, and the cacti were just beginning to bloom. The owners were very accommodating and accessible. We were in the Charleston area for a destination wedding. I don't know when the we'll be returning to Folly, but if we do - - we'll be sure to stay at Pelican House!
We had an amazing family get together at the Pelican House. The rooms and bathrooms were very large and clean. We had lots of bed space. We had some cool windy weather so the pool table was nice to have. Plenty of room for parking under the house and also a ping pong table. The beach was so amazing and right outside our door. we walked and played on the beach - kite flying went well also. I had looked at many houses before choosing the Pelican House - when I got to Folly and drove by some of them I was surprised they did not match up to their pictures. Pelican House exceeded my expectations - I was so glad that I had rented the Pelican House. Kelly and Nicolas were friendly and easy to work with. Highly recommend this house.
Our extended family of adults and kids stayed at the Pelican House over New Year's. As other reviewers have stated, the house is really nice for a large group. In addition to 5 bedrooms, the house has a small den with pullout couch to which one of our teenagers escaped. The house is spacious with bedrooms and bathrooms even larger than they appear in the photos. The decks - upstairs and first floor - offer wonderful views of and easy access to the beach.. We used the gas grill to cook. Kitchen large and well-equipped. Beach walks and shell collecting great even in winter. The pool table provided extra fun. Owners available by phone to answer questions. A couple tips: 1) bring beach towels; 2) we brought a couple folding chairs to squeeze extra seating at the dining table. Folly Beach itself is a funky beach town. Great vacation!
We had a great experience at The Pelican House for our stay! We had 12 adults and it was the perfect size. Fully equipped kitchen which made cooking easy and convenient. Right on the beach with easy access to ocean and also the outside shower to wash off after was very nice. The owner was very helpful and was extremely nice when called the day of to figure out the keys. I would recommend this house to a friend/relative.
We had 14 adults and a dog, looking to stay on ocean front property and this listing worked out perfectly. We had some electrical issues when we first arrived but they were corrected by the owner temporarily until the electric company came out to fix the issue (which was outside of the home). The pictures do not do it justice, the living room is large and the decks are beautiful. The rooms and bathrooms are huge. If you are going to sleep up to 14 people, the pullout bed in the living room is small, and one may have to sleep on a different couch. The hot tub is very small, but everything else was perfect.
