About the property

Studio, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

400 square feet of living space right in the middle of your own small redwood park with 178 feet of the most pristine river in the U.S.. There is a completely furnished kitchen over looking a rose and vegetable garden and a cement patio with a table, umbrella, a charcoal BBQ and a Joe Foreman Grill. Queen size bed and a hide-a-bed coach(queen) is available. The satellite TV has New York and Las Angeles for the home channels. Wireless high speed internet is also available.

A short walk to the river through a grove of huge redwoods and a hammock to wile away the afternoons in the summer makes you realize you are in God's country. There is a picnic table over looking the river and a small fire pit. Fall brings salmon and steelhead fishing and in the summer swimming in crystal clear water. We are located approximately 9 miles North of Crescent City and 12 miles South of the Oregon border. Jedediah Smith State Parks is six miles east and the ocean about 4 miles west. We also have two casino's, one five miles away. We are surrounded by hiking trails, for short and long walks.

Sweet little cabin with very nice owners!!

  • 3 of 5

Cabin was comfortable and functional with all the basic essentials.

There is no table inside but that was fine for us as we visited in the summer and we ate our meals outside.

No internet connection but the owners were committed to getting that fixed ASAP. They allowed us to sit on their deck when we needed to be connected.

They were very kind bringing us delicious fried green tomatoes and yummy peaches!

Loved this location and place

  • 5 of 5

This location on the river was fantastic. A short walk to the beautiful river where they have a fire pit and hammock. A very good price and super close to the redwoods. They were very accommodating on our late arrival.

Beautiful surroundings

This property is gorgeous. We stayed over the Memorial Day Weekend and went to the Brookings Azalea Festival and many beaches. The owners could not be better hosts. The location is peaceful, relaxing and serene...just what we needed. Thank you for sharing your heavenly retreat.

Great, quiet place to relax

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I booked this place thinking we would just need a bed and a shower with our main goal being to hike in Jedediah. We got that and so much more! The owners a so friendly and welcoming - we arrived later than expected and they were so understanding. They quickly showed us the unit and then let us be for the remainder of our stay. There is a great amount of outdoor space in addition to the rental. There is access to the river and a fire pit, a grill and an outdoor table to eat at. The kitchen inside is huge as is the bathroom. We would love to come back when we are in the area again. Thank you for your hospitality!

Good stay for the money

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our 10 day stay in this redwoods cabin. It was a great venue from which to access the southern Oregon coastal towns and the beautiful parks and scenic drives in northern California. The hosts are very nice and good sources of local knowledge, and they are very responsive by email. They do live right next door to the cottage/garage combination, but they are unobtrusive.
The cottage is generally well-supplied, but I felt like some details were missed, i.e., very little hand soap, only 1 dish towel, etc. The items mentioned in a previous review - slats missing from the window shade and mildew on the bathroom ceiling - had not been corrected. The oven, microwave, top of the refrigerator and some pans were dirty. There were mouse traps in 2 of the empty cabinets - apparently not used, but not welcoming either. There is a washer and dryer to use, but there is no clean surface to put clothes as you remove them from the dryer. Despite these issues though, the cabin is a good deal for the money if these "details" don’t deter you.

Comfortable, cozy, and absolutely perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family feels very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in this cozy home. We were greeted at the door by Ruthann and John, and both of them created an environment in which my husband and I and our two children felt very welcomed and at home.

Though some might be hesitant to stay at a place so close to the owners, we found it charming and actually felt a bit like we were staying with family.

John and Ruthann provide great tips for sight-seeing, great food (ohmygosh, GREAT food), and are so hospitable. The kids LOVED the fresh-picked peaches and watching the juice drip down their arms was something to smile at! :) Our room had roses from the garden and John shared with us that we were welcome to the books, brought out a pool for our son (which we ended up not using because the river was warm and perfect for playing in!), and encouraged us to use their canoe if we were interested. They also offered to share spices and food items that we might need, rather than purchasing it from the store.

Beside the amazing hospitality shown to us, the area is RICH with activity! We were a short drive to the Trees of Mystery, Jedediah Smith State/Nat'l Park, the Pacific Ocean, and of course, their amazing river access. We never ran out of things to do. We spent countless hours just at the river! I enjoyed runs on the beach (that were virtually private) as well as a beautiful run through Jedediah Smith.

When we asked our children what their favorite parts of our vacation were, they both mentioned the river. It really is spectacular.

Thankful beyond words for our great stay here. Enjoy!!!!!
