Wonderful apartment and experience!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in Omar's apartment from August 13th-20th. While we've been to PR many times, this was our first experience staying in Dorado as well as renting an apartment - but with 2 adults and three growing children, hotel options are becoming much more limited and costly. Omar was a wonderful host and resource from our very first phone call. He made the rental process very simple and straightforward.....greeted us upon our arrival with his adorable son, gave us the five star tour of the apartment and grounds, and provided us with great restaurant recommendations, driving directions and even weather updates when a storm threatened to pass through the island.

The descriptions of the apartment itself are very accurate......although the photos really don't give you a good sense of how large and bright the rooms are, especially the main living/dining area and master bedroom. The jacuzzi was a great treat after a long day at the rainforest or beach.......the kitchen had everything we needed, the walk-in closet was enormous, the washer/dryer a godsend, and the central AC way more than adequate. The somewhat limited cable TV stations might be a bit of an issue for people who are used to having 500 channels at their fingertips but there are 2 "Redbox" movie rentals minutes away from the apartment and honestly, who wants to sit and watch TV when you're in such a beautiful place!!

Cerro Gordo is a beautiful lovely as many we've been to in Isla Verde. Entry is free unless you park your car and then it's only $3-$4 for parking. During the week you might be the only ones there.....the weekends get a little crowded but never too bad......and it's a nice way to absorb a little local flavor. The pool on the grounds is beautiful and as others mentioned we were often there by ourselves......The pool "officially" closes at 6PM which seemed a little early to us but once or twice my kids "forgot" to leave and noone said anything. The apartment is very close to 2 supermarkets and just about any fast food you could imagine. We loved Dorado....but keep in mind that it is approx a 45 minute drive to San Juan, 60+ minutes to the rainforest, and approx. 90+ minutes to Fajardo (where most of the snorkeling excursions leave from) so you have to plan your stay and your day trips accordingly.....For us the beauty and quiet and calm of Dorado made it worth the extra driving.

Thank you Omar for a lovely vacation!

Owner's Response: We're thrilled to see we had yet another very satisfied renter! To clarify the issue related to "The somewhat limited cable TV stations might be a bit of an issue for people who are used to having 500 channels at their fingertips", our cable package is pretty comprehensive since it includes all the major networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, etc.) plus the major kids channels and CNN International, and many other channels including the local ones.

Nice property, spacious and comfortable. Very nice clubhouse with an awesome pool.

  • 4 of 5

The property was great for our travel needs. Omar responded to any question or inquiry immediately which was very comforting. The apartment was bigger than we expected and the patio/yard was an added plus. There are a few updates they might want to consider for the future but overall it was great. The pool was nearby, well maintained, and the staff was very friendly. Being a gated community also provided us with an additional sense of security. We would definitely consider staying there again for future vacations.

Vacation at Palma Dorada in Vega Alta, PR

  • 5 of 5

The property was as illustrated in the web site (Home away from home). We did have minor problems with the cable and Internet not working but a call to Omar and the problem was resolved the same day. Omar, owner, was very nice and responded to the calls same day. The apartment is very spacious, clean, Air conditioning throughout the house working well. The fact of having washer and dryer was very convenient specially for a family of 7. The area is safe. My two adult daughters enjoyed they daily run with beautiful view of beach and ocean (Cerro Gordo Beach)which is very close. You are close to San Juan, about 30 min. Closed to Luquillo Beach and Rain Forrest, about 45 min. the immediate town, Dorado is beautiful.

The people in the area are friendly.

I will definitely stay in Mr Omar Pereira property next time I visit my Puerto Rico.

Avoid this property. Very Dirty with Dead Bugs.

  • 1 of 5

First off, I had written a very long review and tried to paste it into the review field but was limited to about 500 words. Just know there is A LOT more to say. This is only our experience. We’re a family of 6 who moved to Puerto Rico on June 4th, and required a temporary condo for a month while we found a place of our own. When we arrived at Omar’s condo, it was very dirty, and there were dead bugs, which looked like little lice, laying on the counter tops in the bathrooms. The condo smelled really bad, and the walls were incredibly dirty. My wife was initially very upset, but calmed down when she noticed a washer and dryer, because she could wash all of the bedding and at least sleep well. But of course the washer had dirt and hair inside of it, so there was no way we were going to use the washer. The appliances were incredibly dirty, and the fridge had jug of water with long black hairs all of it. Then after about 15 minutes, my wife started to have an allergic reaction to something in Omar’s condo, so she had to take Benadryl and she had her Epi-pen ready just in case. We left after 15 minutes and rented a hotel room. We never went back, and we never ended up staying at Omar’s condo. I called Omar, and he was initially very nice about getting the place cleaned up, but what he didn’t understand was we weren’t going to go back inside because we were to afraid my wife would have another allergic reaction. We asked for a partial refund, but he only gave us back our security deposit (and then acted like that was generous, when that should be automatic) and refused to provide any type of a refund unless the condo rented out by other people. Meanwhile, we were now paying for two places at the same time. I then checked back with Omar near the end of June, and he had told me that the condo had not rented out yet (no way for me to verify that claim), and I was out of luck. I told him that at that point, the fair thing to do was to split the costs, and refund us 50%. Again, he was impertinent and said no. I just kept thinking that this guy was much more interested in his short term gains than his long term rental prospects with his condo. But after being here in Puerto Rico for a month now, shortsightedness seems to be the cultural norm here, just look at Puerto Rico’s financial problems, political corruption, and general lawlessness, especially on the roadways, and you’ll understand what I mean by shortsightedness. More to add...

Owner's Response: We believe this review to be an extremely unfair one written by someone who apparently is used to dealing in bad faith. We had two guests stay in July and did not do anything different, and there were absolutely NO PROBLEMS with them. In fact, this is THE VERY FIRST TIME in 7 years we have had a problem of this nature with a guest, as can be seen by the multiple other rave reviews we have received over the past 6+ years. We categorically reject each and every one of the statements made by him. The apartment was NOT dirty nor smelly. I had inspected it personally a few days before, as I always do. The “dead bugs” are small insects that are normal in a tropical setting, and appear from time to time in a seasonal basis in this area – they are completely harmless and are definitely not lice. The supposed “dirty” walls may have been walls in need of painting, which will be done in the next few weeks, but they were not “dirty”. All of the bedding had been washed at the same time as the cleaning was done, as it is ALWAYS done, so there was no need to wash them again in our CLEAN washer. This is what really happened: his wife (who he admitted to me "could be difficult at times") didn't like the apartment and refused to stay. He then made all these accusations and complaints to try to get out of their contract. We offered to remediate the whole situation IMMEDIATELY by sending a crew FIRST THING the very next day and clean the apartment per their extremely stringent standards (they were demanding that we use no chemicals, only vinegar, and we had agreed). The next day he tells me that they will not be there, and that they will not stay. Per our contract, cancelations must be made 60 days in advance, or all deposits to that date will be forfeited. He did not think this was "fair". Contrary to his opinion, Puerto Rico, being part of the US, is a place of law and order, and contracts are as enforced as anywhere else in the US. We have made exceptions in the past with clients that have had illnesses or deaths in the family, but we believed they did not deserve such consideration after refusing all our efforts to satisfy them. Bottom line: We have and will always do everything in our power to make sure our guests have a wonderful experience. But in six years of renting to everyone’s satisfaction, we have never been faced with this kind of situation, and we hope we never do so ever again.

Home away from Home.

My family and I had a perfect stay in Omar apartment in Dorado. The apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The enclosed backyard was a plus since we have a 3 year old. It is also great to sit outside and have a drink or cup of coffee. The staff were polite and helpful. Booking was easy and Omar gives great directions to the facility and near by beaches, attractions and shopping. I highly recommend this villa especially for a family getaway.

My family & I were very pleased with the condition of the apartment and all the ammenities that were available at the complex. As promised everything that was listed as being available at the apartment was there. We had a full kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths & the bonus was access to a private backyard. The pool area was really nice in the complex and we did get some good use out of the gym. The complex had lots of families staying there at the same time as we did so we did get to mingle with some of the folks. The apartment was in really great condition and we enjoyed quiet evenings there with the family. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and all the accomadations. It really made our saty there more enjoyable and relaxed knowing we had a little piece of what felt like home accessible to us while we were away.
