Coastguards 2: A beautiful, recently renovated, spacious and romantic cottage - with large sitting areas, sea-view bedrooms, large gardens and jacuzzi! Sleeps 6. The accommodation comprises a well-equipped open plan kitchen and dining room, a cosy snug with wood-burner, a large conservatory/lounge, two double bedrooms (one ensuite), one single room with bunk beds, one family bathroom, a beautiful, large back garden and a small front garden with parking for up to two to three cars, as well as plenty of outside seating both front and back. The back garden also features a small jacuzzi which can be available on request at a surcharge. One or two well-behaved dogs may be accommodated on request, but owners need to agree to keep them on the lead as we are surrounded by farmland and farm animals. About Marie-Christine Brazier
I am a former cabin attendant and primary school teacher and have worked in the UK as well as in Bali and Thailand. After travelling for many years, my husband and I chose this beautiful corner of Devon to settle in and to raise our daughter. We think it is one of the most stunning, unspoilt, serene places on this planet - and we have looked far and wide!
Marie-Christine Brazier purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Marie-Christine Brazier chose Newton and Noss
Because of its location - just look at the views! It's also a jolly cosy, comfortable and relaxing place which offers all comforts in the middle of utterly unspoilt Devon coastline countryside.

Beautiful location, perfect place for a walking or beach break
We came across No 2 Coastguards Cottages whilst on a walking weekend last Winter and immediately booked it for our next visit because of its incredible location with views over the sea on one side and up the river on the other. It is really exceptional with access to the coastal path on the doorstep and the secluded Cellars beach just a few hundred yards down a narrow path below the cottage.
The Cottage is welcoming, comfortable, well equipped and with many luxurious furnishings and nice decor. And everything worked easily and smoothly! The garden is an added bonus with a pretty summer house and hot tub (we didn't use it).
We spent our time walking (there are so many options for long and short walks), playing tennis, enjoying the beach, game of golf and generally relaxing. We barely used the car for 5 days, just walked to Noss Mayo for a meal at the fabulous Ship Inn or took the ferry to Newton Ferrers for alternative pub meal at the Dolphin and to get provisions. Our large dog was welcome everywhere we went.
The owner, Marie Christine, was so helpful and friendly - even welcoming us with scones, cream and jam. She and her family obviously take great care of the property and it is a lovely place to stay.
We will be back as soon as we can and we recommend it without reservation.
Dear Caroline and family and Zac-the-dog,
Thank you so much for your lovely, detailed review. We are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and its natural setting and that you and your dog felt so welcome everywhere! What a nice idea to take the summer ferry across and to get provisions that way, instead of taking the car to the village! I think you must be the first of our guests to do so. :-)
We really do hope you'll be back!
Very best wishes
Lovely home in a beautiful location
Stayed at Coastguards for a four night break over the Easter holidays. We had a lovely time. The house has everything a family need and is set in a fabulous location. There are excellent walks right from the doorstep and plenty of information in the house regarding where to head to. The views are quite spectacular and we were lucky enough to enjoy some amazing sunsets. It was great to be able to leave the car for a few days and head out on foot. The owners are lovely and do a great job with this rental. Would thoroughly recommend.
Dear Jackie, Stewart and family,
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back one day!
A truly amazing home from home within a tranquil location and setting
Unfortunately, we have to start with a negative, because we cant give this lovely cottage more than 5 * it actually desires 10 + - in short, superb location, the excellent proportioned accommodation is finished to a good standard with all the required accessories you'll ever need to enjoy a real home from home overlooking a quite breathtaking sea and countryside landscape. The views from the approach and the front of the cottage are spectacular, to say the least; however, you mustn't forget the views from the rear, they are equally as good. You really could just bring your toothbrush here and enjoy the splendors of the property and area, it's that good. From a hearty family of six with a dog to just a romantic getaway for couples, No.2 Coastguards Cottage, really has it all. Communication with a quite attentive owner who to us, quite obviously enjoys overseeing the rental of this beautiful place as much as the visitors enjoy staying there, really adds a further wow factor to the experience; a big thank you for that Marie, it seems the cottage is more of a labour of love to you, than just 'another holiday let'. To conclude, if you are thinking twice about staying here for either a short break or longer holiday, then don't, because we can assure you, that you will miss out on being able to enjoy its splendors and memory making capabilities - you must go and enjoy with whatever your favorite pastimes are.
Thank you so much for your lovely, heartfelt review! We are touched! :-) We are so glad you liked the cottage and we really hope you'll come back!
With many thanks
Happy Christmas at Coast Guards Cottage
We spent Christmas week at the beautiful and serene coastguards cottage, which was as magical as it can posibly be. The house was decorated elegantly with a lovely christams tree and cosy log burner. The proximity to the coast path and hot tub made welcome additions to the house which was perfect in every way. A wonderful spot off the beaten path which made cosying up with a book a real treat. The views from all aspects of the house were also stunning.
Dear Sophie and family (and dogs!),
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so glad you had a magical Christmas stay and enjoyed the house and its setting. Christmas is such a special time and it makes us especially happy when our guests can experience Christmas magic at Coastguards! We would love to welcome you back one day! Many thanks, Marie
A beautiful house in an amazing location
The setting is incredible - with views of the sea to the front and the estuary to the back. The house was the cleanest we have ever stayed in, with all the facilities you could need. We made most use of the 'snug' sitting room with the wood-burning stove, as it was quite cold for much of the week (October half-term), but the larger conservatory sitting room would be fantastic in the summer. The bedrooms were large and comfortable and there are ample bathrooms. The garden is large and beautifully planted with lots of hidden 'rooms': would be lovely for children.
There are great walks straight from the door, including the amazing cliff-top walk. We made our way down to the nearest beach on one of the warmer days and even managed a brief and freezing swim. Would be a wonderful experience in warmer weather. The cottage is secluded but in good reach of days out - we drove to Exeter and to Dartmoor.
We were welcomed by a lovely basket of fresh flowers, scones, jam and clotted cream. Marie-Christine made sure that we had everything we needed, and very generously offered to let us stay an extra day as 'Storm Brian' had delayed our arrival. Thank you so much: we had a wonderfully relaxing break.
Dear Nicola and family
Thank you so much for such detailed and lovely review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay - we would truly love to welcome you back one day!
With very best wishes
Lovely week, very comfy, hated the noisy saniflow system though!
Thank you for your review. We are glad you liked the cottage and had a lovely week! We are sorry that one of the three toilets in the cottage is a Saniflow one. We wanted to add an ensuite toilet for the comfort of our guests and installing a Saniflow system was the only way to do so. However the main bathroom is not on Saniflow.
With very best wishes
Things to do in our local environment: Our area offers a genuine abundance of 'things to do'. Here are just some suggestions: Explore the Villages/Tidal Pub Crawl The villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are little known jewels of Devon. They are located, in picturesque manner, on either side of the river Yealm and its off-spring, Newton Creek. At low tide you can walk from 'Noss' to 'Newton' in a few steps, via tidal walkways. This is important, as the villages' three pubs, the "Ship Inn' the 'Swan Inn' and the "Dolphin" are placed around the walkways - if you linger too long over your beer in the 'wrong' pub, you may find you have a long walk back! Noss Mayo - and its truly excellent and elegant Ship Inn - is only 30 min walk from our cottage. Walk, Walk, Walk The cottage surroundings constitute supreme walking territory. Coastguards is located directly on the South West Coast Path, so if you are planning to walk our sections of this 630 mile long coastal path, Coastguards would be an ideal base from which to do so. However, you need not engage in such a long walking adventure - our area offers stunning walks of varying lengths, all of them offering awe-inspiringly beautiful coastal and river views. Explore the Beaches There are several lovely beaches within walking or bicycling distance from the cottage. Cellars beach, a large, partly pebbly, partly sandy beach, is only 10 min walk away. A little further afield, about 20 min on foot, is Warren beach - a very magical, secluded cove. Both Cellars and Warren are tidal beaches. If you feel like a glorious bicycle ride, or prefer to drive, Wonwell beach and Mothercombe beach are about 20 min by car or 50 min on bicycle. They offer huge expanses of sand at low tide. If you take the little local ferry, Wembury beach is about 1 hour on foot. Water-Pursuits We are surrounded by water - the calm waters of the beautiful River Yealm Estuary, and the many-tempered waters of the South West Coast. This makes No. 2 Coastguards a perfect base for water activities. Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo are sought after sailing destinations and the local yacht club hires out boats, if you arrange this with them previously. Kajaking is very popular, too, and a beautiful way to explore the river estuary and the coastline. Diving is excellent and there are numerous ship wrecks in the area. Paddle-boarding is another popular pursuit - and some people surf or body surf at Wembury beach. You can, of course, also simply go swimming or snorkling: our local waters can be as green as the Med. Other Local Outdoor Pursuits: There are various outdoor activities other than walking or water sports to engange in around the cottage. Mountain bikers will love the scenic and yet 'cyclable' coastline. Foragers will find much to delight their culinary taste, especially in the cooler months: not only are there mushrooms aplenty; both Cellars and Warren beach have an abundant winkle population (for homemade winkle curries!), while the tidal beaches of the river Yealm are home to several over-productive Oyster colonies: if you know where to go, your bucket will be full in minutes! Coastguards is also a perfect place for observing wildlife. Peregrine Falcons are often spotted in the coastal skies, and at night, you may see owls swooping towards their prey. If you are very lucky, you might even spot dolphins, porpoises or whales in our waters. You can, of course, also simply pack a picnic hamper, grab a bottle of wine and sit gazing out at the horizon - there are views aplenty. Explorations Further Afield You can easily spend your whole week at Coastguards and use your car only sparingly or not at all. However, there are also many places of great beauty and interest, all less than an hour's drive away from us. For yet more walking, there is Dartmoor, with its wild and awe-inspiring beauty. If you feel like exploring scenic towns or villages, the very picturesque coastal settlements of Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth offer much to their visitors. The old market town Tavistock, placed within Dartmoor National Park, is also worth a visit - its pannier market is still very much alive. Stately Homes There are several interesting National Trust properties within easy driving distance. Saltram House is nearest, on the outskirts of Plymouth - it featured in Emma Thompson's film version of 'Sense and Sensibility'. Near Salcombe, you can visit Overbecks - a beautiful coastal garden and house. Not far from Dartmouth, you will find Agatha Christie's recently opened summer home, Greenways, and its lovely gardens. Within Dartmoor National Park, you will find Sir Francis Drake's forner home, Buckland Abbey - complete with re-discovered Rembrandt, picturesque gardens, and a fascinating house. Just over the county border, in Cornwall, there is Antony House: it provided the setting for the recent film version of Alice in Wonderland.
